Anglican Ministry in Second Life
Greetings, I lead the Anglican Ministry in Second Life which over a short period of time has grown to 5 church services a week and more than 300 members. It is doing something very unusual within the church, constructive and effective engagement with the internet. I am looking for someone interested in undertaking some research to assist in documenting and analyzing this unusual fledgling programme. Dear Revd Brown and everyone, When I tried to open the link http://slangcath.wordpress.com/ I realized that it is one of the thousands of websites that have been banned in Turkey. The notorious censorship on radio, television and newspapers has recently started to take over the net as well. I am very curious about the content of the website and the possible reasons for censorship. I have to admit that I also wanted to share my deep concern. Hi Ertug, It may be possible that is not THIS site the one that is censored but wordpress, the main site that allows the creation of this and other sites (blogs). Check out if you can access www.wordpress.com and that will let you know if it is this site the one censored or if it is the "hosting". This was what happened in China at some point (not sure if is still happening) with Blogger. They just cut the access to anything in Blogger as a way to cut access to blogs and to the 'national production' of blogs, therefore of true free press. Let us know if it is just this site of all wordpress... In my personal blog (www.uglydoggy.com) you will see at the top right a banner from the GreatWallofChina.org site... they were extremely nice as to make that one because I asked for it (before I asked, they just had banners for sites that were AVAILABLE in China, but I wanted to use my site to also shed light on all the ones not available.... and they acted on my suggestion). Maybe you can get them (now redesigning their website) to include Turkey in their site or to help do something similar for Turkey. In fact Wordpress may (should!) also be interested in raising awareness about them being banned there...
