International Graduate Degree Info
All, After beating my head against the digital wall for a while, I decided to access our collective intelligence. I am looking for statistics on the percentage of national adult populations who have earned a graduate degree. I have this information for the US (for the curious out there, as of 2005, 6.8% hold Masters and 1.5% Ph.D.), but have been unable to track down similar stats for any place else. Undergrad information is easy, the grad stuff is proving more challenging. I suppose it is a matter of knowing where to look. Broader information on regions, say Asia, Latin America, or Europe as a whole would also be helpful. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. -TED Ted M. Hi Ted, Strange as this may sound - I asked the same question a few days ago to ask.yahoo.com but got no reply ;-) OK, I am sure that you have probably already visited most of these links but in a rare case that you overlooked one or two of them: A list of statistical bureaus in Eastern and Central Europe: http://ekonom.univ.gda.pl/esw-online/us.html?PHPSESSID=0497524286fc762d6dd3c... OECD Directorate for Education http://www.oecd.org/department/0,2688,en_2649_33723_1_1_1_1_1,00.html UN links: http://www.stat.gov.pl/english/linki/onz.htm EuroStat links: http://www.stat.gov.pl/english/linki/eurostat.htm And the EuroStat itself: http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page?_pageid=1090,30070682,1090_3307... About 0.0867 of the Polish population is studying for a PhD in Poland. I could ask how many Poles have a PhD, if it is of any interest to you. These are well known but I could ask some pedagogics professors that I know. Hope this is on any help to you. Kind Regards, Maciej

Hi Ted In Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is our official statistics gatherer. Most of the ABS publications can be accessed free of charge from their website www.abs.gov.au The publications I think you will find most useful are: Human Resources by Selected Qualifications and Occupations 2001 Bulletin 8149.0 http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/ausstats/subscriber.nsf/0/DEEF036E242F540 8CA256D2800059454/$File/81490_2001.pdf This bulletin is based on the 2001 national census - figures from the latest census in 2006 are not yet available. Education and Work May 2005 Bulletin 6227.0 http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/ausstats/subscriber.nsf/0/1BC089AD3FDEB2C ECA2570D7001314E3/$File/62270_may%202005.pdf You may find other relevant publications by searching the site. As in Ireland the data is gathered in our census in Canada. I am actually employed to archive the census at present so I am answering. But the data you are looking for is not always asked of every Canadian to reduce response burden. Every kth Canadian is asked instead. Recently k=5. visit www.statcan.ca here you must search yourself. as in Australia the data is mostly free these days. Although there are software products that contain census data.
