Dear all - Just come across this, and thought it was in the very spirit of AiR Directory of Open Access Journals (1485 at last count) http://www.doaj.org/ "The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact" Open source, between Lessig's pragmatics and the Open science initiative ethics, Internet enabled. I have been trying to find up-to-date global statistics on Internet use and have had much difficulty. Most sources cover only particular areas of the planet - mostly the USA or other isolated areas but I have not been able to find data on global use of Internet use. What I am mostly interested in is any quantitative data on the use of different Internet applications (e-mail, participation in forums (communities), searching for information, etc). I have also been looking for data on the number of existing online communities - if there is a way of keeping account of them - and/or of trends on their growth. I would greatly appreciate any help offered, K. Diamantaki
have you checked the world internet project? http://www.worldinternetproject.net/ you might find some useful cross-national indicators there, though the usual data caveats apply. On Mar 25, 2005, at 6:41 AM, Katerina wrote:
