Books on social media
Hi all, Looks like I'll be leading an independent study on social media with one of my students. I have a good amount of books on the topic but I just wanted to inquire which ones you know have worked out best in your classes. This particular student is also interested in learning about the practical end of social media. Kind of like a "best practices" book. Or even the industry end of social media... Again, have some things that addresses the latter question, but want to know which books you would recommend. Any takers? Thank you in advance :) -- Thanks, Burcu S. I wrote a chapter for a book on social media that might be of interest: Social Media: Usage and Impact by Noor Al-Deen and Hendricks (2012) from Lexington Books. Best, Alec Alec R. Dear Burcu: & others: Few months ago, I have requested in the group to recommend material and books for a course on social media. I had also promised that I would share the learnings. Recommendations from the members are really useful. I tried the course with my MBA students here last term. Looks like the course is shaping up well. Following are my suggestions, out of reading and testing: 1. Blanchard, O. (2012). Social Media ROI: Managing and Measuring Social Media Efforts in your Organization. Pearson: New Delhi. (This book is really good from a practice view) 2. Flynn, N. (2012). The Social Media Handbook. New Delhi: Wiley India. (for social media audit in organizations) 3. Kietzmann, J. H et al., (2011). Social Media? Get Serious! Understanding the functional building blocks of social media. Business Horizons, 54, 241-251 4. Kaplan, A. M. and Hanlein, M. (2010). Users of the world, unite! The challenges and opportunities of social media. Business Horizons, 53, 59-68 (above articles are great starting points) 5. This is a nice piece: • Piskorski, M. (2011). Social Strategies that work. Thank you so much guys! As usual, I'll compile all of this in a google doc and share with all. I will include Barry's offer as well, since that has a full-package deal: the textbook and the lecture to go with it :-P In the meantime, I'll wait for another day or so to see if any other title would be mentioned on the list. Hi Burcu, This will also sound self-serving so I apologize, but I wrote an E-Book regarding the "best practices" of social media marketing. There might be some value in observing social media from the business point of view. http://www.scribd.com/doc/159728115/Blurbi-Social-Media-Marketing-Guide-Augu... Hope this helps.
