Are you referring to a specific Francois Barr paper? Abbate has a good discussion in _Inventing the Internet_. And don't miss M. A. Padlipsky's _The Elements of Networking Style_. He has an entertaining take on the development of layering, and if you haven't read this book, you're in for a treat. For info on him and ordering the The Book (as he calls it), see http://www.lafn.org/~ba213/ mapstuff.html. Andy On Jun 15, 2007, at 9:45 AM, RGL wrote:
Dear Colleagues,
I'm trying to research the actual origin paper for the layers model. Was it Francois Barr or other scholar's contribution as a concept? Many thanks, B.
