The opportunity to apply for PhD studentships under the new AI-enabled Digital Accessibility PhD programme<https://www.surrey.ac.uk/postgraduate/ai-enabled-digital-accessibility-ada-phd> (ADA) has just been launched - this is a new doctoral scholarships network funded at the University of Surrey by the Leverhulme Trust. Most of the studentships are aimed at UK-based students but a smaller number are available to international students. Additional funding is available for Masters Plus Doctoral Scholarships for students from underrepresented groups. There are a number of project opportunities in this first phase that draw on social research skills to explore user needs and expectations in this area. For example, I'm involved in supervising one potential studentship under theme 5: Enhancing assistive technology through AI, focused on "Exploring preferences regarding AI-based solutions to accessibility of textual information for people living with dementia".
