For those who will be in the region the month after the AIR conference, you may wish to attend a one-day conference at the SUNY Buffalo campus on the future of scholarly communication. This is the first of what is hoped to be a series of gatherings on the topic, and we have some interesting speakers coming to talk with us. PUBLISHING THE FUTURE: Scholarly Communication in an Information Age November 11, 2003 Academic publishing and scholarly communication more generally are undergoing a period of rapid change. Positive change comprises a wealth of Web based services for pre-print collections, data warehouses, collaboration systems and more. Negative change comprises skyrocketing costs for academic journals that have forced a nationwide cutback in the average number of periodicals held by research university libraries. All this dramatically impacts the productivity and promotion of individual scholars as well as university budgets. How to cite blogs?

Hi there, I'm wondering how to cite blogs correctly. That involves some aspects I think. There are the citation rules - not mentioning blogs, at least to my knowledge - and some ethical issues. If a blog has a denomination and no author/editor mentioned what am I supposed to do if I know the name of that person. Or if he just uses a first name or ... help with computer logging software

Dear AoIR folks, I'm trying to get underway with a pilot study that requires complete tracking of computer activity during mediated team meetings. I'm looking for software that *ideally* will both record all key strokes in all applications and take either periodic screen shots or record screen activity as an mpeg or similar file. However, I would also settle for software that did either of these things (screen recording or keystroke logging) as long as it did them *well*. I've tried a couple of low-cost shareware programs but have not been able to get them to run or download correctly. I've found plenty of lists of software packages, but I'm looking for some kind of more reliable reviews of this type of software, most of which seems to be marketed to parents and spouses who want to spy on their loved ones' computer behavior. I would love to hear from people on this list who've used this type of software before, and can point me in the direction of relatively inexpensive packages I can use. In the ideal world the software I use would have Mac and Windows versions, but I expect this will be much harder to find. Please feel free to reply to me off list with any suggestions or ideas. Dear Isidro, Luca, list, I would like to bring to your attention: LogAnalyzer, a Web service for the analysis of log files of any format. http://genpsylab-logcrunsh.unizh.ch/ LogAnalyzer was specifically designed to analyze data coming from factorial Web experiments and online surveys, and it has automatic dropout analysis among its features. e-science, the grid, and supercomputers

Thanks Alex: Hope everyone is ready to come to Toronto for our "Broadening the Band" conference. Thanks to the creative volunteers who are making this event possible, we will have a helpful restaurant guide ready for our visiting Aoir-ites.
