Non-software uses of GitHub

I’m looking for GitHub repositories that are used for things other than software, especially where users are actively collaborating rather than just putting together static collections. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. Does anyone know of any examples of these or other categories? Any pointers much appreciated. Happy to share what we find with anyone interested. Full Chapter Submission 15.03. Review Results Returned 01.05. Revised Chapter Submission summer Online-Publication GAMEVIRONMENTS seeks to explore both established approaches and new frontiers of researching video games/gaming as related to religion, culture, and society. The journal encourages inter- and multidisciplinary works combining for example Cultural Studies, History, Religious studies, Theology, Ludology, and Psychology. All submitted articles will be reviewed on a double-blind peer-review basis. PAPER TYPES We include different categories of texts in the journal: a) regular academic articles Normally, articles should be between 5.000 words and 10.000 words in length. In general, a clear structure is of course helpful to understand your argumentation (introduction, discussing the relevance of your idea, theoretical frame, used method(s), case study and amount of new knowledge). b) interviews Next to academic articles we are interested in projects related to games, gamers, gaming and religion, culture, and society. For instance, if you have an interview with a game designer, a pedagogue working with games, etc., please feel free to share it in our journal! c) research reports Sometimes you may just want to give an impression of your current research, an introduction to a new project, or just have a longing for acclamation of about the 5% of successful third part funding that we get for this "weird stuff" – please feel free to do so :) In general, such research reports should be short descriptions between 3000 and 5000 words in length. They are not peer-reviewed, but we as journal editors will give some revisions if necessary. d) book reviews There was a flow in publications concerned with games and religion/culture in the last years, so it could be interesting to introduce and discuss some of them. If you are reading a new book which you think can be helpful for other researchers, feel free to propose a review. Reviews should be around 1000 words. Please note that in most cases, the journal will not be able to provide a free copy for reviews, but will try to source a free copy for you. e) game reviews Due to the fact that we are a games journal that wants to collect, systematize and further develop the various recent multidisciplinary approaches in the research area, we need to know our way around in our field, namely GAMES! So if you are playing a game which you think can be an interesting and promising object of investigation, please send us proposals for a game review. Reviews should be around 1000 words. Please note that in most cases, the journal will not be able to provide a free copy for reviews. Video games are full of images, so it would be a good idea to include some of them, illustrating your argumentation. But, for any image, you need to hold the copyright. Please ensure that! Before publishing with the journal, you need to sign a copyright declaration which we provide. Please send all images as .jpg file(s) to us due to formatting issues. Thank you for the excellent summary document on Zoom Mehitabel I am also concerned about the racial inequity issues of automated online proctoring systems, that are used in conjunction with videoconferencing systems such as Zoom. >From what we know of bias in facial recognition and detection algorithms, these systems that try to detect student faces changing direction (potential cheating) during online exams have a significant number of racial injustice issues. Doing qualitative research which addresses inequalities in times of social distancing

Hello all Many of us are currently facing challenges as we seek to carry out qualitative research which addresses inequalities under socially distanced conditions. Lots of people are thinking creatively about how to overcome these challenges, and we’re aware of a number of events, webinars and discussions on this topic that have taken place. We are gathering together resources on this topic (including recordings of webinars, if available), which we will share publicly on our Living With Data <https://livingwithdata.org/> project website in August. Every day, tens of millions of Americans view political advertisements on social media that disguise themselves as unpaid content, also known as “dark ads.” According to NYU researchers, more than half of Facebook pages from May 2018 until June 2019 that displayed U.S. political ads concealed the identities of their backers. [4]Matt Volk and [5]Elizabeth Allendorf joined forces to develop a game that educates the public about dark ads, and to propose a series of actions that regulatory entities can take to increase transparency in this ecosystem. Using Automated Advocates to Provide Legal Services at Scale. The United States faces a crisis in its civil courts, where more than 80% of low-income households lack adequate legal representation. A promising new class of technology tools (“Automated Advocates”) can help close that gap, but regulatory complexity about who may practice law make it difficult for companies to build these tools and for regulators to distinguish good actors from bad. [6]Jessica Cole led a project to coalesce and define Automated Advocates in order to regulate and incentivize their use in civil courts. People Powered Policy. It is difficult for cities to obtain real-time feedback from their constituents on impending policy decisions. At the same time, constituents from disenfranchised communities struggle to get the attention of elected officials to drive policy change. [7]Amy Wilson led a project focused on the City of Oakland, California, that develops a strategy to encourage two-way iterative communication between city government and their constituents and embrace a digital transformation. Question: Increase in vigilantism/surveillance over refugees during the pandemic?

Dear all, I understand that it's maybe too early to have many (or any) articles on the subject, but researchers who have focused on state responses to the refugee crisis around the world have noticed an increase in surveillance (through uses of technology) and control over refugee groups during the pandemic? There are reports that Venezuelan refugees in Brazil have been under increased surveillance by the Brazilian army (though I don't know the details). Is there anything similar or notable in other parts of the world (such as increased control over Syrian refugees on the Greek-Turkish border, etc)? I am trying to collect material or even get in touch with academics who have research in the area. On the other hand, we are relying more and more on online services to track and fight the diffusion of the new virus. While these phenomena are a consequence of an emergency situation, it is very likely that such changes will have a significant long-term impact. Online and Mobile Social Networks are a particularly intriguing environment in this framework. The OSNEM usage has changed dramatically since the emergence of the pandemic. Moreover, OSNEM can be used to shed light, through big data analysis, on novel individual and social behaviours of people. Last but not least, OSNEM are increasingly used to track the pandemic, via Online and Mobile Social Platforms helping to track physical contacts between people. As the role of OSNEM is becoming ever more important, challenges and threats to privacy, trust in information, fake news, malicious behaviour are posing even more serious threats. This special issue seeks high-quality scientific articles (both theoretical and experimental) on the use of OSNEM at the time of COVID-19, to either characterise the human behaviour via large-scale OSNEM data analysis, or using OSNEM to fight the pandemic. Papers describing the process used to collect and use large-scale datasets from OSNEM platforms are welcome, provided datasets are made available to the research community.
