Since 2004, established scholars, young researchers and doctoral students interested in the study of people, ICT and work and play have gathered at the SIG-SI ASIS&T Annual Research Symposium to share their work and ideas. Approximately 110 papers, posters and panels have been presented and for the past three years, we have given awards for the best papers published by Social Informatics (SI) faculty and students in the preceding years. This year we gather to celebrate a decade of intellectually challenging and engaging work in SI and hope that you will join us. Our goal remains the same: to disseminate current research and research in progress that investigates the social aspects of information and communication technologies (ICT) across all areas of ASIS&T. Building on the success of past years, the symposium includes members of many SIGs and defines “social” broadly to include critical and historical approaches as well as contemporary social analysis. It also defines “technology” broadly to include traditional technologies (i.e., paper), state-of-the-art computer systems, and mobile and pervasive devices. Submissions may include empirical, critical and theoretical work, as well as richly described practice cases and demonstrations. We are particularly interested in work that assumes a critical stance towards the Symposium’s theme but are also soliciting research on other related social informatics topics. We encourage all scholars interested in social aspects of ICT (broadly defined) to share their research and research in progress by submitting an extended abstract of their work and attending the symposium. Papers that take social informatics further in theoretical conceptualization or empirical grounding are of particular interest to SIG-SI this year as we celebrate a decade of Symposia in ASIS&T. This year’s conference theme is “Information Science with Impact: Research in and for the Community.” In keeping with this theme, the symposium is also soliciting work from Social Informatics researchers that focuses on the impact of their work on industry, government, local/national/global community groups, individuals, information systems, GLAMs, and on other practice contexts. We are interested in work that addresses questions and issues such as the following: • What are the social, political, economic, and legal implications of social informatics research? • What are the ways in which social informatics research impacts various organizations, groups, and communities of practice? • How can social informatics researchers work more closely with members of these communities? • What can a social informatics approach tell us about roles of information and communication technologies in the work and social practices of people in these communities? • What are the challenges and opportunities of engaging in SI work that seeks to understand and improve the work and social lives of people in these communities? The schedule for the workshop will involve the presentations of papers and the best social informatics paper awards for 2013 (call to follow). We expect an engaging discussion with lively interactions with the audience. Convergence: Special Issue, vol. 23, no. 3 (August 2017) Guest Editors: Stine Lomborg and Mette Mortensen (University of Copenhagen) The concept of crossmedia has primarily been associated with the production of media content for multiple platforms. At the same time, media users also cross media – they combine, juggle, and move almost seamlessly between various media platforms and services: to pursue information and entertainment, to communicate about and undertake tasks, and respond to demands in their everyday lives. Mobile media such as smartphones and tablets with ubiquitous internet access epitomize this development and converge various media on a single multi-purpose platform. A key observation in the current, digital media landscape is that media use – from television to telephones – is increasingly personalised, fragmented and connective. Blurring the boundaries not only between users and producers, but also between amateurs and professionals, laymen and experts, this development has prompted new forms of participation (collaboration, co-creation etc), and, consequently, new terms such as produsers, citizen journalists, prosumers etc. Crossmedia use transforms interpersonal communication, journalism, political communication, cultural consumption, celebrity culture, and many other central areas and aspects of society. But how might new types of users – and forms of crossmedia use – be defined? How do users combine and reinterpret the relationship between so-called 'old' and 'new' media? And to what extent are traditional distributions of power challenged and changed by the ability of users to circulate content on and across multiple platforms? Understanding how individual media users cross media, and how they organise and make meaning in networks of media, is pivotal to furthering academic scholarship on crossmedia and the contemporary media user. This speial issue of Convergence aims to develop the conceptualisation and analysis of contemporary crossmedia use and users in order to study the implications for users themselves as well as for media companies and society at large. We encourage theoretical as well as empirically grounded contributions on crossmedia use and users addressing subjects such as: * Conceptualisations of crossmedia in a personal media environment * Changing relations between consumption and production (e.g. produsage, prosumption) * Personalised and connective media use and its consequences * The consequences of audience fragmentation for the measurement of media use and targeting * New actor roles and forms of participation * Power structures and flows in crossmedia communication * Institutional and private crossmedia flows * Audience studies adapted to cross media usage and users Submission details: Prospective authors should submit an abstract of no more than 500 words by email to Stine Lomborg<mailto:slomborg@hum.ku.dk> and Mette Mortensen<mailto:metmort@hum.ku.dk>. As a reminder, you can book your rooms at the conference rate of USD 169 (plus tax). Your room includes breakfast and evening receptions, and there is no charge for parking or internet access. Lists of tools for online media research

Dear all, I'm the coordinator of the workgroup 'new media' at the Network of European Cinema and Media Studies (NECS) - a small workgroup really. Last week there was the annual NECS conference in Lodz, Poland. The workgroup organized a workshop by the title "Archiving and Archives in Online Media Research." In the follow-up of the workshop the idea came up to collect a list of tools and accompanying tutorials for archiving, citing, and otherwisely researching websites. Such a list could be informing for researchers and students and should be editable (e.g. like a wiki). As a first step – in order to decide if there is really a need – we decided to survey what is already out there. So here is the question: What lists of tools are out there? What (other) tools do you think would have to be part of such a list? One list that I know of myself is the “ToolDatabase” of the *Digital Media Initiative, *https://wiki.digitalmethods.net/Dmi/ToolDatabase. It is not editable and does not contain tools for citation though. By the way: I'm really excited about the fact that IR17 will be held in Europe!!! I'm not sure about economics. But when someone thinks(doesn't necessarily be true)they approach the world in a different way, and are more likely to be compliant with decisions that are made. I would think economics plays a part in that the more choices a person has the more they feel they have a relationship, an investment in how things will turn out. Someone has a say, and has choices theoretical they would be more productive, and prosperous. So yes, free speech would be an economic good. Everyone wants to be heard, and understood. I think free speech would provide a way for people to meet a basic human need.
