Non-software uses of GitHub

I’m looking for GitHub repositories that are used for things other than software, especially where users are actively collaborating rather than just putting together static collections. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. Does anyone know of any examples of these or other categories? Any pointers much appreciated. Happy to share what we find with anyone interested. Participations: Journal of Audience and Reception Studies has just released its latest issue! This open-access journal features three special sections. The first is aimed at understanding readers, reading, and digital media, the second looks at interviews as a research method, and the third section features nine essays from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth conference on "Researching past cinema audiences: Archives, Memories and Methods". With an editorial introduction by Martin Barker and a series of articles that provide innovative theoretical, methodological, as well as empirical insights, including the audience reception of professional wrestling stars, the circulation of film and cultural capital, and the understanding of resistance as observed in online discussions, this issue is packed with relevant and contemporary insight into audience research in 2019. Media Industries 2020 (MI2020) maintains an open intellectual agenda, inviting papers, panels or workshops exploring the full breadth of media industries, in contemporary and historical contexts, and from all traditions of media industries scholarship. MI2020 will therefore provide a meeting ground for all forms of media industries research. As a specialized focus, the 2020 conference takes Global Currents and Contradictions as its coordinating theme. In media industries scholarship, repeated attention to a few key territories, frequently but not exclusively located in the Global North, has concentrated but also limited the scope of the field. In choosing the theme Global Currents and Contradictions, we are therefore particularly interested in receiving submissions engaging with industries, contexts and bodies of research that represent, extend or challenge the geographic reach of the field. Submit abstracts and contact the conveners at: https://nomadit.co.uk/easst/easst2018/conferencesuite.php/panels/6286 We would like to invite you to submit abstracts to our panel at EASST 2018 The panel investigates innovation processes driven by antagonistic relations between actors on both sides of the law. We invite case studies of how mutual hostilities between actors are pursued through technological change, whereby each actor seeks to gain an edge against their adversary. Three empirical fields that exemplify this dynamic are the surge of legal highs, information security and crypto-currencies. More examples of the same thing can be found in other fields of empirical investigation and suit this panel. What we will examine under the label of "outlaw innovation" is how conflict breeds innovation. Related to this is an awareness of the tenuous relation between legislation and innovation. The "outlaw" is just another word for an innovator. Concurrently, however, capitalism strives relentlessly to subsume and integrate its own outside, turning this unknown into innovation and new markets. >From this observation follows that the purported outsider position ascribed to various grassroots innovators, users, etc., must be scrutinized. States, capital and academic actors work in conjunction with these outlawed/independent researchers to produce a shared language of common concerns around risks and opportunities inherent in technological innovation, such as in the Tor project. The legal grey zone thus emerges as an incubator of innovation for legal businesses. Any research on/with YouTube API?

So I stumbled into a developer who created one of those "floating" YouTube music video players. After six years of curating the original radio news "flash briefing," I thought hey, why not try video. Combining forces on Android (so far) we've come up with: http://tvnewsapp.com So, here's the deal. The YouTube API is pretty darn interesting and I'd love to connect with researchers who are experimenting with it. I am interested in ways to better automate how to surface live news streams. The app has scores of these. I never expected so many from so many countries. Some countries clearly are all in with nearly all news channels competing on Facebook while others while free on the web haven't joined the YouTube club. Cyber-Security syllabus or textbook?

Hello everyone, I was wondering whether anyone on this list has a recommendation for a cyber-security textbook (or syllabus) centered around policy or case studies. This fall, I will be teaching a new graduate course titled Public Policy of Cyber-Security, aimed at political science students. I’ll be taking a wide view of cyber security (looking at nation states but also the IoT and platforms), and ideally would like to focus on normative issues that are interesting to think about. If anyone has taught a similar course, I’d really love to hear your recommendations.
