evaluation of SMS campaigns

Hello all I had a tremendous response to my first query on my research for my theses I thought I'd go to the list once again. I am looking for literature, web sites, books, and any other resources that can give me a good overview of evaluation of SMS campaigns. If you can suggest resources specific to evaluation of SMS campaigns undertaken by NGOs and civil society organizations that would be great. What I am looking for are general guidelines in evaluating whether your SMS campaign was successful or not. What metrics are used, and how does one define ROI (return on investment) in a social justice SMS campaign? What I have discovered so far in my research is that the actual numbers are pretty low in many SMS campaigns by NGOs in terms of how many signed a petition, for example, by SMS. However, despite the low numbers, many NGOs still were able to use SMS campaigning to push their agenda successfully and that there is a tremendous interest among NGOs to use SMS technology for their campaigns. This is true particularly in developing countries. Any help will be appreciated. Hi folks. Just "tuppencely" and hopefully not off topic I note that Wikipedia seems to prefer capitalizing "the Internet" and the noun alone in terms like !"Internet protocols". Somehow I have a feeling the lower case forms will win out in the end, though, as seems often to happen with things like brand names. Very interesting discussion! A recent memo in LSE about turnitin stated 2.2 JISC <Joint Information Systems Committee> is a national body responsible, among other things, for administering the UK HE <Higher Education> sector¹s use of the TurnItin plagiarism detection software, licensed from a US company, IParadigms. The School pays an annual subscription fee for its use of TurnItin based on fte <Full time Equivalent> student numbers: this was £4,690 for the 2006/07 session. It is of course sometimes hard to know whether a conflict is naturally occurring or if it is provoked by a hostile member. In my data most of the conflicts are caused by misunderstandings. Example: a: shut up just shut up shut up b: what?! b: do you mean that I should shut up??? c: she sings black eyed peas: shut up a: I'm singing black eyed peas b: ah, ok, good :-) Sometimes the members talk about the verbal duels they are taking part in which can be very intensive and rough. That intentionally conflict-seeking behavior I would categorize as flaming. But as I said these things will and have to be discussed in the dissertation. Also the cultural differences have to be taken into account: my data is from a public chat-room for the Swedish speaking minority in Finland. While we're discussing origins: I invented the term "network of networks" in "The Network City" article with Paul Craven in Sociological Inquiry. As Casey said, "You could look it up." The term lay dormant for years even though I was proud of it and reused it in places such as our _Social Structures_ book (1988). It probably got reinvented independently when the internet came along. While we're discussing usages: I prefer "internet" to "Internet" both for scholarly reasons and because it is one less keystroke. However, I find in practice that my fingers want to write Internet, and I have too many fights to start another one with my fingers. I've just lost another one. I invariably write "email" and "e-mail". Also one less keystroke, and the way of the world is to compress away hyphenation over time. However, Sage's copyeditors insisted we go back to "e-mail" on the Bernie Hogan, Juan-Antonio Carrasco and BW article on Visualizing Social Networks that will come out sometime this year in _Social Networks_.
