AoIR Copenhagen - Need participants for roundtable panel on crowdsourcing

Hello everyone, I'm putting together a proposal for AoIR Copenhagen to do a roundtable discussion panel on the topic of crowdsourcing (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowdsourcing) So far, I have rounded up three of us to form a panel, but would ideally like to add one or two more people to this discussion if possible. I know there are very few people specifically studying crowdsourcing, but if you are researching various aspects of any of the exemplar cases of crowdsourcing (e.g., Threadless, iStockphoto, InnoCentive, user-generated advertising contests) or if you are researching issues of digital labor, open source production, Web 2.0, or other related issues, I'd love to hear from you. Since it's a roundtable panel, I'm putting together the narrative proposal, so if you're interested all I need from you is a) your name/institution/contact information and b) a few sentences about what you're researching that is related to crowdsourcing. Two New Lectureships in Politics and IR at Royal Holloway, University of London

Apologies for cross-posting.] Lecturer in International Relations Lecturer in Politics The Department of Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London, invites applications for the above newly-created posts, tenable from 1 September 2008. The Department was founded in August 2004 and has quickly established its research base in cutting-edge areas of the discipline, focused upon three new research centres: the Centre for European Politics, the Centre for Global and Transnational Politics, and the New Political Communication Unit. These posts mark the next phase of our expansion. Royal Holloway is one of the major Colleges of the federal University of London and is among the elite group of ten university institutions whose departments all hold the top three ratings for research, with scores of 4, 5 and 5*. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a strong research driven approach to their academic activity in general, including to their teaching. The successful candidates for both posts will be expected to make a significant contribution to the delivery of the Department's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to undertake supervision of doctoral students. The appointees will play a full and active role in the development of this busy and intellectually vibrant Department. For the Lectureship in IR we have particular interests in candidates working in one or more of the following areas: global governance; international organisations; security studies. However, strong candidates in any area of IR are also encouraged to apply. White Hall Madison, Wisconsin USA DOCAM '08 is the fifth Annual meeting of the Document Academy, an international network of scholars, artists and professionals in various fields interested in the exploration of the document as a useful approach, concept and tool in Sciences, Arts, Business, and Society. The aim of The Document Academy is to create an interdisciplinary space for experimental and critical research on documents in a wide sense, drawing on traditions and experiences around the world. It originated as a co-sponsored effort by The Program of Documentation Studies, University of Tromso, Norway and the School of Information, University of California, Berkeley. Papers address the themes of document theory, document analysis, and document research (theory, methods, case studies) and cover domains as various as politics, art and visual realia, archives, museums, the World Wide Web, opera, finance, healthcare, and theatre! Trade Unions and Moodle

Trade Unions and Moodle I am taking a course on Getting Ready for E Learning run by the TUC and Lewisham College . The TUC is the body to which all trade unions are affiliated in the United Kingdom. The course is aimed at learning reps (of which I am one) and union officers. The intention is to see how unions can use Moodle for online learning. Unions do (basically) two types of Education. One is training for "lay" officers (I was quite excited to find out I was a "lay officer" until I found out what it meant!) on how to run the union, how to take casework health and safety etc. The other is continuing professional development such as ICT courses for teachers. I will ask other course participants for their views on how the course went and how they envisage online learning being useful to them. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Analysts predict some 2.6 billion mobile phones in regular use by 2009, with the sales of smartphones representing the fastest growing market [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4697405.stm] For many people, the mobile phone is the first computer they encounter, and certainly they only computer they carry with them most of their waking moments. Mobile computers in general, and mobile phones in particular, present unique challenges not only in terms of user interface, battery life, and form factor, but also in terms of ensuring their users' privacy and security. Emerging mobile payment and ticketing solutions require the secure transmission and storage of financial information, while electronic health records or access certificates/tokens might imply the use of highly sensitive personal information on such devices. Wireless connectivity such as WiFi, Bluetooth, or NFC facilitates decentralized tracking, while content sharing applications and collaborative games enable unobtrusive social data mining. Providing security for such wireless communication is a general problem, further complicated by the fact that there is hardly any a priori information about potential communication partners. This workshops aims at bringing together researchers interested in exploring security and privacy issues in mobile phone usage -- not only on a platform level, but on both the physical and social network level as well. Topics of interests are, e.g., * Secure payment/ticketing systems using mobile phones * Secure authentication mechanisms for mobile phone, both for authenticating users to phones and phone to other devices * Security and privacy issues in mobile phone networks * Usability issues in mobile phone security and privacy solutions * Public perception of security and privacy issues of mobile phones * Digital rights management on mobile phones * Legal and social issues of security and privacy for mobile phones * Options for lawful, auditable, and restricted tracking and surveillance using mobile phones in law enforcement *Contributions* --------------- We welcome both short position papers (1-2 pages) and full workshop submissions (8 pages in LNCS format).
