University academics in South Africa should take note that JoCI is indexed by the IBSS, and published research articles will therefore be eligible for accreditation at your universities. We welcome submissions of completed research articles, case studies or book reviews relating to the following: . Internet and ICT use and appropriation by specific groups, especially disadvantaged groups; . The use of ICTs for community based service delivery as for example in health, municipal services, education, amongst others; . Internet content production (blogs, sites, etc.) aimed at social and community development; . The role of mobile telephony in a Community Informatics context in relation to grassroots development; . Hello, I am a researcher at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. I am currently conducting interviews with genderswap fanfiction authors. If you or someone you know is a fanfiction author who participates in genderswap (by reading, writing, cosplaying, creating fan art, or some other activity), please consider this call for participation: *Background Information:* The purpose of this study is to gain information on how genderswap authors and readers create and perceive gender through their writing. The research is conducting this study as part of her Honor’s Thesis in Sociology at Hamline University. To be eligible for participation you must be 18 years or older and write or read genderswap fanfiction now or in the past. *Procedures:* If you agree to be in this study you will be asked to take part in a one hour interview with Ms. Fielding. Interviews may be conducted over Skype or through instant messaging at your discretion. Ms. Fielding will inquire about your history with genderswap fanfiction and fanfiction in general focusing on how these genres have shaped ideas of gender and sexuality. You have the choice to allow Ms. Fielding to audiotape this interview for transcription purposes only. *Confidentiality:* 1) If the interview is taped, it will be erased immediately after it is transcribed. He is a specialist in the field of search engine law and regulation and regularly writes, teaches and presents on the issues of data protection and intermediary liability on the Internet. Hello, Has anyone that has read this book provide some feedback or discussion about it? Perhaps other books that speak to Internet or Digital Activism? It seems that the Amazon ratings page isn't that reliable given the authors exposure on The Daily Show on June 18th, and as a result, many of the reviews seem to be superficially spiteful (down-rated the book) rather than providing genuinely informed feedback. After a period of intense crisis and uncertainty, in which human sciences have frequently sought to mirror or approach the hard sciences, the beginning of the twenty-first century seems to witness a broad renewal of disciplines, approaches and methodologies. From the questioning of its traditional foundations, humanities are reinventing themselves by a broad reconfiguration of its borders and even of the notion of “humanity” that served as its cornerstone. One of the areas where the wealth of this new scenario is most clearly displayed is that of media studies. Spurred by the impact of new digital technologies, media studies cleverly learned to appropriate the epistemological principles and major theoretical issues that have come to characterize the contemporary cultural scene. The objective of the Seminar "The Secret Life of Objects: Medialities, Materialities, Temporalities" is to sketch a systematization of this scenario from a transdisciplinary perspective, but with a decisive focus on communication studies and culture. The three axes that structure the Seminar represent articulating knots that cut across different disciplines in the humanities, from sociology to philosophy, but acquire special meaning in the context of new media studies. The underlying assumption is that we need to radically rethink the notion of epistemic agency in a context where the action and the impact of the objects, media and technological materialities become increasingly important. Thus, it is not only necessary to investigate the place of human actors in a world enriched by the life of polymorphic objects, but also to highlight the issues that the strong tradition of hermeneutics of the humanities have often obscured: what, without constituting meaning per se, contributes nonetheless to the production of meaning? What is a medium and how mediation processes unfold? In what ways does technological materiality inform cultural worlds and determine forms of cognition? What new models of historical research of techniques and culture are emerging within the current epistemological paradigms?
