This topic is important because it involves leveraging new sources of information that are specific for social systems such as shared items and tags, user public profiles, social connections, and logs of user social activities in order to improve people's information access in a wide variety of tasks and across different devices. These social information sources offer social personalization systems a chance to compensate for the lack of information and structure that is used by traditional personalization technologies ranging from recommender systems to E-learning. Thus, we invite submissions which may include the following topics, but are not limited to: * novel approaches for social personalization in recommender systems * novel approaches on personalized social collaboration * novel approaches on social linking * novel methods for social search and navigation * novel methods for social predictive models * novel social methods for information visualization and display * applications of the aforementioned topics to diverse domains (education, smart cities, music, etc.) * any other methods that exploit new forms of social data for personalization The goal of this workshop is to share and discuss research that goes hopefully beyond classic personalization techniques, trying to capitalise potentially useful information available in social data for paving the way to more efficient personalized information access technologies. Yet our understanding of the complex mechanisms governing networks and collective behaviour is still deplorably shallow. Fundamental concepts of on- and off-line networks such as power, authority, leader-follower dynamics, consensus emergence, information sharing, conflict, and collaboration are still not well defined and investigated. These are all crucial to illuminate the advantages and pitfalls of collective decision-making, which can cancel out individual mistakes, but also spiral out of control. In recent endeavours, data from Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Wikipedia, and weblogs have been shown to strongly correlate to, and even predict, elections, opinions, attitudes, movie revenues, and oscillations in the stock market, to cite few examples. Similar data provided insights into the mechanisms driving the formation of groups of interests, topical communities, and the evolution of social networks. They also have been used to study polarization phenomena in politics, diffusion of information, and the dynamics of collective attention. However, a deeper understanding of these phenomena is still very much on demand. In parallel, and even preceding the surge in interest towards social media, the area of agent-based modeling (ABM) has grown in scope, focus and capability to produce testable hypotheses, going beyond the original goal of explaining macroscopic behaviors from simple interaction rules among stylized agents. The aim of this satellite is to address the question of ICT-mediated social phenomena emerging over multiple scales, ranging from the interactions of individuals to the emergence of self-organized global movements. We would like to gather researchers from different disciplines and methodological backgrounds to form a forum to discuss ideas, research questions, recent results, and future challenges in this emerging area of research and public interest. Shelia Postdoctoral Fellowship in Social Impacts of Technology at Michigan State University Posting #8030 (position title says Research Associate) https://jobs.msu.edu/applicants/jsp/shared/frameset/Frameset.jsp?time=14019… Dr. Shelia Cotten, a professor in the Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media (TISM) department at Michigan State University (MSU), is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow for a 1 year position. The position is available beginning as soon as July 1, 2014. The postdoc will work with Dr. Cotten to analyze data from existing research projects and to collect survey, interview, and observational data on upcoming research projects. Projects focus on technology usage across the life course and the social impacts of this usage, thus experience studying either specific age groups, and/or the impacts of technology use, would be preferable but is not required. Dr. Cotten studies the intersections of technology use and health. With funding from the National Science Foundation, she has also collected data on one of the largest One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) XO laptop disseminations in the United States. She, with funding from a large National Institute on Aging grant, has conducted a randomized trial to determine the impacts on quality of life of training older adults in assisted and independent living communities to use computers and the Internet. Her current NSF-funded project, Integrating Computing Across the Curriculum (ICAC), a large school system intervention, focuses on outcomes of computer technology and computer technology training programs for students and teachers. Applicants must have defended their dissertation prior to beginning the postdoctoral fellowship. A doctoral degree in Sociology, Psychology, Communication, New Media, Information Science or a related field is required. Candidates must have (1) strong quantitative analysis skills, (2) experience writing manuscripts, and (3) good organizational and time management skills. Prior publications and grant writing experience will enhance the application. The Postdoctoral Fellow is a 12 month, full-time appointment, with salary up to $45,000 depending upon qualifications. ScraperWiki makes it very easy to gather tweets from all users on Twitter, but I'm looking to limit the data set to specific users. Is there a simple way to do this? Call for Papers: Online Teacher Professional Development Meridian <http://ced.ncsu.edu/meridian/index.php/meridian> is issuing a call for submissions for publication <http://ced.ncsu.edu/meridian/index.php/meridian> in 2014 that focus on Online Teacher Professional Development (oTPD). This area of teacher training has received some attention since the publication of *Online Professional Development for Teachers: Emerging Models and Methods *(2006), edited by Chris Dede, but almost ten years on, the research area is far from saturated. Manuscripts may investigate participant experiences, effect on participant learning, effect on student learning, program design, cost effectiveness, and other related areas. Apart from this special call, manuscripts that aid Meridian in its overall goal of promoting knowledge of K-16 educational technology are welcome and accepted. *Meridian* Meridian is an electronic journal dedicated to the research and practice of information and communication technology in Kindergarten through college. Meridian features research findings, practitioner articles, commentary, and book excerpts.
