--------------------------- Call for Submissions --------------------------- HYPERTEXT 2016 27th ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media 10-13 July 2016 - Halifax, Canada http://ht.acm.org/ht2016/ Submission deadline: 19 February 2016 CONFERENCE SCOPE The ACM Hypertext conference is a premium venue for high quality peer-reviewed research on hypertext theory, systems and applications. It is concerned with all aspects of modern hypertext research including social media, semantic web, dynamic and computed hypertext and hypermedia as well as narrative systems and applications. Hypertext 2016 will focus on missing links on the WWW: how can the Hypertext paradigm and research inspire and improve the Web? Which missing links (and linking paradigms) can improve connections, communication and collaboration? Apart from the regular research tracks, Hypertext 2016 will feature a creative track. The conference will take place at the campus of Dalhousie University in Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia and the major cultural centre of Canada’s Atlantic provinces. SUBMISSION CATEGORIES Papers must report new results substantiated by experimentation, simulation, analysis, or application. Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original, not previously published works. Submission categories include: - Regular research papers (max 10 pages + references) discussing mature work. - Short papers (max 5 pages + references) describing preliminary results of on-going work or novel thought-provoking ideas. - Posters and demos (max 2 pages + references) presenting innovative research ideas, preliminary results, system prototypes or industry showcases. Submission deadline: 19 February 2016 Accepted papers will appear in the Hypertext 2016 Conference Proceedings that will be published by ACM and additionally be made available through the ACM Digital Library. Mobile social media provide touch points to engage families, friends, group members, and communities, offer entry points to the web, and keep them connected in a Social Web. Therefore, this track includes the analysis and exploitation of links between topics, people and activities in social media and beyond. Apart from various methods and practices using existing social media systems to support collaborative activities, social groupware (or a combination of social media and groupware, , such as MobileMeeting) is emerging, which integrates social media interaction into a structured collaboration process and adds various structure and computational support to social media. ------------------------------------------------- Narrative, Adaptation and Multimedia Storytelling ------------------------------------------------- Track Chair: David Millard, University of Southampton, UK Hypertext and Web systems are fundamentally about communication between people, and people are storytellers. Call for Applications: International Visiting Fellowships in Critical Digital & Social Media Research The Westminster Institute for Advanced Studies (WIAS) www.westminster.ac.uk/wias is a newly created academic space at the University of Westminster in London for independent critical thinking beyond borders. Its inaugural research theme is Critical Digital & Social Media Research. One of the WIAS’ key features is the Research Fellowship Programme that attracts and brings together current and future academic leaders. We invite applications for international junior and senior research fellows (from all academic backgrounds) who conduct fellowship research projects in the realm of Critical Social & Digital Media Research for the duration of 3 months in 2016. Several fellowships will be awarded as result of this call. The fellowships cover airfare and a contribution to accomodation and subsistence in London. Funded scholarships are only awarded as a result of open calls. The WIAS invites both junior and senior fellows. Junior fellows are researchers who hold a PhD that has been awarded not more than 5 years before the date of the call publication. Senior fellows are researchers who hold a PhD that has been awarded more than 5 years before the call is published. "Critical Digital & Social Media Studies" is a book seried edited by Christian Fuchs on behalf of the Westminster Insitute for Advanced Studies and published by the University of Westminster Press. It publishes books that critically study the role of the Internet, digital and social media in society and make critical interventions. We invite submissions of book proposals that fall into the scope of the series. Deadline: March 1, 2016 The books in the series are published in an open access format available online without payment using a Creative Commons licence (CC-BY-NC-ND) and simultaneously as affordable paperbacks. We are able to publish a number of books in the call without any book processing charges thanks to support by the University of Westminster Library. IMPACT program - International Media, Political Action & Communication Technologies, aims at giving to its students a critical perspective on how the internationalization of communication, the sharp increase and speeding up of the production of information, and the unprecedented development of digitalmedia, play a role in the way political action, citizens mobilizations and public debates are now be framed. Hello all, I'm trying to find information about a talk I saw at AoIR last year in Phoenix. I know a woman presented... she might have been from the UK?... she talked about 'data subjectivity' by way of talking about data collected by tracking devices like Fitbits... Does someone remember this presentation/person/talk title, and if so, will you email me the info, please? I'm having trouble accessing the conference program online. I suppose if you have a copy of that, that would probably work, too.
