Non-software uses of GitHub

I’m looking for GitHub repositories that are used for things other than software, especially where users are actively collaborating rather than just putting together static collections. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. Does anyone know of any examples of these or other categories? Any pointers much appreciated. Happy to share what we find with anyone interested. Submit abstracts and contact the conveners at: https://nomadit.co.uk/easst/easst2018/conferencesuite.php/panels/6286 We would like to invite you to submit abstracts to our panel at EASST 2018 The panel investigates innovation processes driven by antagonistic relations between actors on both sides of the law. We invite case studies of how mutual hostilities between actors are pursued through technological change, whereby each actor seeks to gain an edge against their adversary. Three empirical fields that exemplify this dynamic are the surge of legal highs, information security and crypto-currencies. More examples of the same thing can be found in other fields of empirical investigation and suit this panel. What we will examine under the label of "outlaw innovation" is how conflict breeds innovation. Related to this is an awareness of the tenuous relation between legislation and innovation. The "outlaw" is just another word for an innovator. Concurrently, however, capitalism strives relentlessly to subsume and integrate its own outside, turning this unknown into innovation and new markets. >From this observation follows that the purported outsider position ascribed to various grassroots innovators, users, etc., must be scrutinized. States, capital and academic actors work in conjunction with these outlawed/independent researchers to produce a shared language of common concerns around risks and opportunities inherent in technological innovation, such as in the Tor project. The legal grey zone thus emerges as an incubator of innovation for legal businesses. Would you like to submit an article to an interdisciplinary article collection on "Big Data Ethics"? In collaboration with the journals (Frontiers in) Genetics, Pharmacology, Sociology, ICT, and Digital Humanities, we are organizing an interdisciplinary article collection on "Big Data Ethics" (Guest Editors: Dov Greenbaum, Daniel R. Thomas). The aim of this project is to bring together international experts to provide a comprehensive view of this topic. Would you like to participate as a contributing author? Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by experts in the relevant field and, if accepted for publication, will be free to access for all readers, and indexed in relevant repositories. This interdisciplinary collection is cross-listed across several journals and so you will need to submit your article via the journal relevant to your field so that your article is in scope of both the collection and the journal. The abstract submission deadline is 30th March but you do not have to submit an abstract in advance, this is so that we can tell you if your article seems to be in scope before you go to the trouble of writing it. It will also help us ensure we get a balance of articles across different disciplines by allowing us to spot any gaps. The manuscript deadline is 31 August 2018 but you can submit before then and the review and publication process will begin immediately. We aim to complete the review process within 30 days and the journal average of time from submission to publication is 90 days. I will organize a special track on "eSports and Media Management" at the "2018 Annual Conference of International Media Management Academic Association (IMMAA) Important dates: May 15, 2018 – Deadline for submitting abstracts and panel proposals June 15, 2018 – Notification of abstract or panel proposal acceptance July 15, 2018 – Deadline for reduced fee early-bird registrations August 15, 2018 – Final registration deadline September 13, 14 and 15, 2018 – IMMAA CONFERENCE Location: Stuttgart, Hochschule der Medien (Stuttgart Media University), Germany Purpose: The competitive gaming scene surged in the recent years with tournaments filling the bird's nest in Beijing in 2017, and the League of Legends finals in 2016 attracted nearly 50 million viewers. From a media management perspective, this phenomenon is highly relevant as it targets a young audience. Furthermore, eSports draws them on a global and local level. Companies like ESPN or MTG are investing in eSports. There is a substantial overlap of actors nowadays, be it media companies, sports teams, game developer, and existing eSports teams. Besides, eSports is not a novel phenomenon; eSports is around since the Internet and had the chance to grow on its own. They have a unique way to deal with the media environment. The purpose of this special track is to tackle this interconnection between eSports and media management. What can we learn from eSports and what can eSports learn from traditional media management. It becomes evident that we have to deal with eSports from a scientific perspective as it is still heavily under-researched. Along with continuing their own research agenda, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will work alongside Dr. Zimmer and other PERVADE team members to pursue various aspects of the larger project, including empirical investigations of computational researchers working with pervasive data sets, user communities impacted by pervasive data, and regulators responding to ethical issues with big data research. The postdoctoral position is designed for recent PhDs who are engaged in research on data ethics, internet research ethics, or other areas aligned with the objectives of the PERVADE project. Recent PhDs in information ethics & policy, critical information studies, internet studies, social media, and digital privacy are also encouraged to apply. Experience with empirical methods is required; experience with either qualitative or quantitative methods of inquiry is welcome. Ideal candidates will have a strong publication record and demonstrated success working on teams. The postdoc is a full-time, 12-month position starting August 20, 2018, with possible renewal for a 2ndyear. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will receive a salary of USD $48,900 per year plus benefits, access to travel funds, and office space in the Center for Information Policy Research. The stipend and benefits eligibility are subject to UW System policies. Applicants who do not yet hold a PhD but expect to have it by August 2018 will be asked to provide a letter from their home institution corroborating the degree award schedule. We encourage submissions that describe substantial challenges that were overlooked by the research community and your promising new approaches that could foster discussion and collaboration. The upcoming RecSys conference will be held in Vancouver, Canada on October 3rd 2018. The conference will continue RecSys’ practice of connecting the research and practitioner communities to exchange ideas, frame problems, and share solutions. All accepted papers will be published by ACM. We construe recommender systems broadly, including applications ranging from e-commerce to social networking, and a wide variety of technologies ranging from collaborative filtering to knowledge-based reasoning or deep learning. We welcome new research on recommendation technologies coming from very diverse communities ranging from psychology to mathematics. In particular, we care as much about the underlying algorithms and systems as we care about the human and economic impact of these systems. Topics of interest for RecSys 2018 include (but are not limited to): - Conversational recommender systems - Novel machine learning approaches to recommendation algorithms - Evaluation metrics and studies - Explanations and evidence - Algorithm scalability, performance, and implementations - Innovative/New applications - Voice, VR, and other novel interaction paradigms - Case studies of real-world implementations - Preference elicitation - Privacy and Security - Economic models and consequences of recommender systems - Personalisation - Social recommenders - User modelling Authors will be asked to assign a selection of predefined custom tags to describe their paper in the submission system. Tags can be assigned to indicate algorithms, interfaces, automated or user-centric evaluations, for example. Reviewers will also report their expertise over these tags, and the information will be used in review assignments. PAPER SUBMISSION CATEGORIES LONG PAPERS should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The maximum length is 8 pages (plus up to 1 page references). Each accepted long paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the main conference program. Each accepted long paper will also be allocated a presentation slot in a poster session to encourage discussion and follow up between authors and attendees. We expect the review process to be highly selective: the acceptance rates for full papers in the past three years was slightly over 20%. SHORT PAPERS typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance to this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking strong theoretical foundation. Applications of recommender systems to novel areas are especially welcome. The maximum length is 4 pages (plus up to 1 page references). Each accepted short paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented in a poster session. The poster presentation may include a system demonstration. Selected short papers will be invited as oral presentations. Note that rejected long paper submissions will not be considered as short papers.
