With apologies for cross-posting *Deadline: 6 October 2020* Dear list members, On behalf of the Critical Mediations Conference Committee, I am pleased to share the Call for Participation for the second part of the 2020 Critical Mediations <https://www.criticalmediations.org/> Salon Series: *CALL FOR PARTICIPATIONCritical Mediations Salon Series #2: Materialities* We invite researchers and practitioners that do critical research to reflect on the role of materiality in their work. From theoretical provocations that recognize “the curious ability of inanimate things to animate, to act, to produce effects dramatic and subtle” to how these effects reorganize our day to day, materiality provides a unique perspective to look at fields of critical inquiry. (Bennett 2009: 6) The precarity of our time and space (living through a global pandemic/ an election year for some/ a reckoning of privilege and power in racist institutions/ the eleventh hour of climate change to name a few) has also changed our relationship with materiality. As Bill Brown posits “we begin confronting the thingness of objects when they stop working for us: when the drill breaks, when the car stalls, when the windows get filthy, when their flow within the circuits of production and distribution, consumption and exhibition, has been arrested, however momentarily.” (Brown 2001:4) *How does materiality inform your research/practice/art? AMCIS 2021 - Global, International, and Cross Cultural Issues Track (GICCI) - Call for minitrack proposals: We invite the submission of mini-track proposals to the Global, International, and Cross Cultural Issues track at AMCIS 2021, which will be held on August 5-7 in Montreal, Canada. https://amcis2021.aisconferences.org/ Globalization has historically been tied to technological innovation, and the present era of a networked information society is no different. Information systems (IS) have provided the infrastructure for multinational businesses, created new cultural connections irrespective of geographic boundaries and distances, and allowed an increasingly mobile global population to be connected to their friends, families, and cultures no matter where they are, forming global online communities. Of particular interest to the track this year are the socio-cultural features of the intended and unintended consequences of global IS; this includes, for example, disinformation, fake news, hate speech, rumors, conspiracy theories, cyberbullying, racist algorithms, fraud, and trolling. The track welcomes submissions that relate to all aspects of global IS, or IS research situated in a global, international or cross-cultural context. The track is open to all methodological approaches and perspectives. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Research that considers the impacts of cultural values on information systems use, adoption or development * Research that consider the global spread of disinformation, trolling, fake news, fraud and conspiracy theories * Research on global IT sourcing strategies * Cross-national and cross-cultural comparisons of IS adoption, use and development * Effects of global social computing on organizational work organization and practices * Issues relating to globally distributed teams * Issues relating to IT adoption at the national level * Issues relating to global knowledge management * Issues relating to cross-national legislation and regulation * Issues relating to global information governance * Use and impacts of IT in the context of multinational organizations * Issues relating to security in information systems that span multiple countries * Single country studies showing implications for other locations or results different from other contexts * Multi-country studies of IS adoption, use, and development Track Chairs: Pnina Fichman, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA Edward W.N. Bernroider, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria Barbara Krumay, Johannes Kepler University, Austria If you are interested in submitting a mini-track proposal, please notice the following important information: - Mini-tracks will be managed under tracks. Please visit the descriptions of AMCIS 2021 tracks at https://amcis2021.aisconferences.org/track-descriptions/ and identify a related track for your submission. Proposals must be submitted through the PCS system. Instructions are available on the same web page. - Each mini-track should have 1-5 mini-track chairs (2-3 preferred). An individual can chair at most two mini-tracks. - An individual must hold only one role within a track. A person should not be both a track chair and mini-track chair within the same track. - Mini-track proposals are due by October 16, 2020. The professorship covers the full spectrum of communication studies, including research and teaching. The research focus should lie in the area of public spheres and recent approaches to inequality research, especially with regard to the impacts of digitization and globalization. In accordance with the professorship’s profile, the successful candidate is expected to carry out intensive, internationally oriented research activities in the subject area of the professorship, taking into account the mission statement of the department. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of BA and MA Communication Studies courses, especially theories of Communication Studies, as well as contribute to doctoral programmes. General employment requirements are: · A completed dissertation obtained in Austria, or an equivalent dissertation completed in another country; · Relevant postdoctoral qualification (venia docendi) in journalism/media or communication studies or related relevant disciplines, or an equivalent academic qualification; · Outstanding academic track record; · Pedagogical and university teaching competences; · Aptitude for managing a university institution; · Proof of involvement with the international scientific community · Willingness and ability to teach courses and hold examinations in English Further expectations are: · Participation in and building up of research and teaching partnerships at Paris Lodron University; · Willingness to participate in university self-government; · Experience in research management and in the acquisition of external funding; · Social competences, focus on partnerships and interdisciplinarity; · Willingness and qualification to take on leadership positions; · Knowledge of spoken and written German or willingness to learn German within two years This is a permanent full-time position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (Universitätsgesetz) 2002 and the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz) as well as the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff / Job Group A1 (Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer der Universitäten/Verwendungsgruppe A1). A monthly salary of € 5,245.60 gross (14 payments per year) is intended, which exceeds the minimum salary given in the Collective Bargaining Agreement for this salary group.
