Students have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of courses, covering areas such as digital media production, strategic communication, journalism, and media studies. This comprehensive approach allows students to develop a well-rounded skill set that is highly relevant in today's rapidly evolving media landscape. Position: Assistant Professor of Communication Responsibilities: 1. Deliver engaging and comprehensive courses in the Communication and Emerging Media program, with a focus on the intersections of new media technologies, and communication/media practices. 2. Actively engage in research and scholarly activities to contribute to the academic excellence of the department. 3. Provide dedicated advising and mentorship to students as assigned, fostering their academic and professional growth. 4. Demonstrate a strong commitment to service through active participation in departmental, University, and professional activities. 5. Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and Administration. Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Experience teaching courses in Strategic Communication, Journalism, or Media Studies. 2. Experience collaborating across disciplines, especially in areas where communication intersects with other fields like business, psychology, sociology, or technology. 3. Scholarship on Social Media Influencers working with public service (or non-profits)

Hello, I am hoping that there may be members of our community who might be able to recommend some work on social media influencers operating on behalf of public services (e.g. municipal services like local city communications offices, tourism agencies, or even national parks). Work on influencers operating on behalf of not-for-profits could also be relevant. Recommendations could come from a critical or a strategic comm point of view. The context for this request is that I have a senior class working with a local city's communications team to develop some recommendations for a youth ambassador program. However, it has come to light that our partners may actually be more interested in an influencer-type model. While I have some solid materials regarding influencers in general, I have yet to find much that addresses influencers working on behalf of governments or public offices on a freelance basis. We are pleased to announce Situating Data Practices Beyond Data Universalism, the 5th International Data Power Conference, which will take place 4th – 6th September 2024, online and in person in two locations: International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), India and the University of Graz, Austria. - Abstract deadline: 19th January 2024 - Communication of acceptance: 15th March 2024 - More information is available on the Data Power website <http://datapowerconference.org/data-power-2024/about-2024/>. *Call for abstracts* The Data Power Conference hosts critical reflections on data’s power and the social, political, economic and cultural consequences of data’s increasing presence in our lives, workplaces, and societies. The 5th International Data Power focuses on situating data practices and looking beyond data universalism. It aims to: - Situate data practices in the power relations that shape their creation and use in the world - Explore the importance of place, space, time and context in the making of data and the effects of data power - Examine the centres of data power and their infrastructures In addition, the conference asks: - What constitutes rigorous methods when it comes to researching data power locally and globally? - To what extent does critical data power research need to focus on specific instances of data power in action? - What generalised critiques can be made from our field? To facilitate dialogues across disciplines and with stakeholders, we welcome papers from interdisciplinary teams including disciplines incorporating aspects of data science, and papers which incorporate non-academic collaborators from a range of sectors. Hi all, Our university is holding focus groups regarding the integration of an AI assistant into Blackboard. I would be interested in hearing about other people’s experiences with or discussions about this particular assistant or other LMS assistants they may have encountered. As I’m sure you all are aware, there are numerous pedagogical and ethical implications to consider here, and I want to get a sense of how others are approaching them. Below is a brief description of what our institution has forwarded to us: AI Design Assistant The AI Design Assistant is an intuitive and efficient tool that gives you a head start on some of the more time-consuming aspects of building a course in Blackboard, while keeping you in control. It was developed in accordance with Anthology's Trustworthy AI Approach<https://www.anthology.com/trust-center/trustworthy-ai-approach>, and with privacy, security and inclusivity in mind and is built on Microsoft's Azure Open AI. The AI Design Assistant uses context from within the course, like the course name, as well as content that you provide via a Description field and customizable settings, to generate its suggestions. As the instructor, you are responsible for reviewing and choosing to utilize any content generated by the AI Design Assistant. As of October, 2023, the AI Design Assistant has 6 primary capabilities in the Blackboard Ultra Course View: 1. Recommend royalty-free images from the Unsplash library, based on AI-generated keywords 2. Generate new images to use as thumbnails in Learning Modules 3. Propose test questions based on the content of an Ultra Document 4. Write test questions to be added to a Test 5. Generate a rubric to use for assessing Assignment submissions 6.
