Hi I wondered if you or any of your colleagues might be interested in contributing a short article to the Encyclopedia of Developing Regional Communities with ICT, details of which are given below my signature. Please note that we are seeking several different types of articles, including (but not limited to): * 1000-3000 word practical articles describing case studies of development using ICT; * 1000-3000 word practical information on hard and soft technologies for community development practitioners; * 3500-word research articles; and, * variations in between. Additionally, it will feature short articles (1,000-3,500 words) authored by leading experts and practitioners offering an in-depth description of key terms and concepts related to various practical, theoretical, thematic and country specific issues of using ICT to develop the social, economic and cultural capital in regional communities around the world. A major feature that sets this Encyclopedia apart from the usual "reference text" is that it also includes "research articles" that outline current research projects and their results, or the development of theories relating to the use of ICT to develop the social, economic and cultural capital in regional communities. Call for Short Articles: Individuals interested in submitting short articles (1,000-3,500 words) on suggested topics (see the listing of our suggested topics) or other related topics in their area of interest should submit an email as soon as possible. We strongly encourage other topics that have not been listed in our suggested list, particularly if the topic is related to the research area in which you have expertise. The completed article (1,000-3,500 words) and 7-10 related terms and their appropriate definitions, should be submitted by May 31, 2004. Please note: "Research articles" should be 3000-3500 words. To qualify as a "research article", the article must be an original and substantial scholarly text describing creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of humanity, culture and society, and/or the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications. Gail, It's a bit hard to understand from this brief description what you are trying to do with the information that you are collecting, but that being said, maybe this is helpful: If you are doing content analysis, a number of studies have been done using automated content analysis software and you might look under that title. It sounds like you could also be possibly using a process called Knowledge Discovery in Databases "kdd" or wanting to use data mining techniques. In which case you might want to look to the Information Technology literature. Have you talked to the methodologist on your committee about this? There are very likely people around the University using like methodologies, but I am not really sure about explained what you are trying to do, so I am making a leap of faith that this is what you are talking about and perhaps aren't familiar with these terms. Meta-analysis on response rates in Web surveys

META-ANALYSIS ON RESPONSE RATES IN WEB SURVEYS Apologies for cross-posting. The WebSM research group (http://www.websm.org) is working on a meta-analysis to compare response rates in Web-based survey to rates in other survey modes. We already searched relevant scientific journals and conferences proceedings for relevant publications. But we are aware that we might miss important reports and articles. That is why we ask for your help. Please send us references and papers reporting on studies where data from a Web-based survey were compared to data from other survey modes. We are interested in the studies having following characteristics: (1) One of the survey modes used should be a Web-based survey, i.e. a survey where a survey questionnaire on the Web was used for gathering responses from respondents. (2) Data from the Web-based survey should be compared to data from one or more other survey modes (e.g. email survey, mail survey, telephone survey, face-to-face survey, fax survey, etc.). Comparable samples should be used in both (or all) modes. The use of split-sample experimental design is preferable. (3) Data on response rates from the Web and the other survey mode(s) used should be available. As an incentive for your help, we will send you a copy of our final report, and acknowledge your help in the report! Papers in English, German, French, and Italian are welcome.
