18 décembre 2009 La revue tic&société lance un nouveau numéro sur « TIC et diasporas » La revue électronique tic&société (http://www.ticetsociete.org/) est heureuse d'annoncer la sortie d'un nouveau numéro sur le thème « TIC et diasporas », coordonné par le professeur Tristan Mattelart de l'Université Paris 8 Vincennes à Saint Denis. Ce numéro double, consacré aux relations qu'entretiennent les diasporas avec les technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC), comprend huit contributions qui viennent chacune à leur manière enrichir diverses facettes de la réflexion sur cette problématique qui est « au c¦ur du devenir du monde contemporain », comme le souligne le coordonnateur du numéro qui, d'entrée de jeu, nous offre une revue critique de la littérature pour en cerner aussi bien les apports que les limites. Le défi était de faire converger la pluralité des angles, à partir desquels les relations entre TIC et diasporas sont appréhendées. Depuis les débats théoriques, les jeux complexes des identités en mouvement, la nature des sites diasporiques, les usages des TIC par des entrepreneurs expatriés, jusqu'au recours à internet pour démocratiser le pays d'origine ou pour défendre la cause des sans-papiers, ce sont là quelques-unes des questions suscitées par la thématique et analysée dans cette nouvelle parution. En activité depuis bientôt trois ans, tic&société est également fière et honorée, à l'occasion de ce lancement, de rejoindre le portail de revues en sciences humaines et sociales, Revues.org (http://www.revues.org) - développé par le Centre pour l'édition électronique ouverte (http://www.cleo.cnrs.fr) - qui se veut un espace dédié à la valorisation de la recherche, publiant en libre accès des dizaines de milliers de documents scientifiques. Le portail a en effet pour mission de promouvoir l'édition électronique scientifique, dans le respect de l'équilibre économique des publications. Revues.org garantit aux revues une autonomie éditoriale et leur offre des perspectives d'innovation adaptée au numérique. Call for chapters: Ethnographies of online newsrooms

Dear colleagues, The editors of Making Online News: The Ethnography of New Media Production (Peter Lang, 2008) are pleased to invite submissions for a fully updated second edition, scheduled for publication in 2011. We hope to present cutting edge ethnographic research revealing various aspects of change and continuity in the second decade of online journalism. As with the first edition, we seek to present research from around the world and we encourage work originally prepared in languages other than English. If you have studied the news making process in online newsrooms of any kind, or you are currently doing so, we would like to hear about your work. Dear colleagues, Call for papers Electronic Journal of Communication/La Revue Electronique de Communication Special issue: Social media in news discourse As professional media producers pay more attention to social media, from personal blog entries and tweets to Facebook updates and YouTube videos, journalists are faced with numerous decisions. Among these are how to integrate personal and often-relationship-focused media with the public and fact-centred discourse of the news. This special issue of the Electronic Journal of Communication invites contributions exploring the conventions that are emerging around the use of social media by news organisations, and the implications of those conventions for public communication. Contributions will have as their central concern whether or not the encounter with social media is changing aspects of news journalism. Possible questions arising from this concern include: how do the forms of personal expression to be found in social media translate into news discourse? what authority or status as ‘knowers’ is given in the news to voices from various social media? how are specific kinds of social media typically made use of within news discourse? how are journalism’s ethical frameworks applied to these media? to what extent is social media content decontextualised from its online social context when used by journalism? are social media texts produced within news organisations also used in news texts? Papers should be 5000-7500 words in length and submitted electronically to the guest editor, Donald Matheson, at donald.matheson(a)canterbury.ac.nz . Wanted: Examples of assessment procedures for digital scholarship

Dear Colleagues, We are interested in the experience of persons on the AoIR list regarding university and department allowance / acceptance of digital scholarship, especially scholarship appearing in social media (e.g., blogs, social network sites) and in onlineonly journals. We know there is a general institutional bias toward publications appearing in high status journals employing double blind peer review procedures, but we also know there are increasing instances of institutions acknowledging - and sometimes encouraging - publication in less traditional venues. 2 PhD Scholarships: online social networks and successful ageing

Two PhD scholarships are available to undertake innovative research at the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute (ADSRI) under the three-year Australian Research Council-funded project “The role of online social networks in successful ageing: benefitting from ‘who you know’ at older ages”. The project aims to examine the role of online social networking in relation to successful ageing as measured by (re)partnering, family/social connectedness and informal/voluntary economic activity at age 50+. Two key data collection components are (1) building a social network site (SNS) for the collection of personal profile and social networking data, and (2) online and offline surveys on successful ageing, social networks, and Internet/SNS use and barriers to use. Areas of research for doctoral study include social demography, ageing, longevity, social network analysis, and e-Research. The project will commence in March 2010. Two Australian Postgraduate Award Industry (APAI) scholarships of $26140 per annum are available for three years. These conferences are also held in part to support European Safer Internet Day which is on the 9th of February 2010. The conferences will have similar, though not identical programmes. Whilst covering some awareness issues, they will focus on implementation: what government, industry and professionals are doing to prepare, support and inspire young people as they live in an increasingly digitally connected world; to ensure that they are able to use these technologies effectively, innovatively and safely. In particular, we want to explore: * how the different sectors (industry, youth, LSCBs and education) can work together, and what support they need, to help young people in their use of Internet and Mobile technologies; * what the knowledge and skills gaps are for professionals who work with young people in this area; * what good practices and programmes already exist that can inspire others to ensure that young people get the most from these technologies, are digitally literate and able to manage their personal data, identities and online interactions. The conferences will also cover some of the safeguarding issues that schools, youth and other organisations need to address, to minimise risk caused by misuse of these media, and truly prepare and support young people. The key strands will be around innovative use of technology in the education and youth sector, children's experiences in virtual worlds and online games, digital literacy, e-safety and good practice guidelines. As with previous conferences, it is hoped these conferences will stimulate discussion, ideas and concrete action points that can help the sector move forward as a whole. Target Audience and Speakers These exciting, cross-sector conferences are aimed at training officers, policy makers, opinion formers, educators, researchers, ICT coordinators, local authorities, schools, colleges, LSCBs, libraries, youth organisations, community groups, media companies, and other public and private sector organisations interested in young people's use of Internet and mobile technologies in formal and non-formal settings.
