Press Release - Funds for West Africa to Boost ICT Communication

fyi ICT funding from World Bank in West Africa: *WASHINGTON DC, 21**st** January 2011* – The World Bank board yesterday approved three projects totaling US$71.5million to boost ICT infrastructure and access to better services in three African countries. The Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe received a grant of US$ 14.9 million for its component of the Central African Backbone Program. The projects in Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Liberia received credits of US$31.0 million and US$25.6 million respectively as part of a US$300 million West Africa Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (WARCIP). hey anders, you might want to get in touch with martin feuz who looked into this question. i could not find his website perspectoma.com anymore, which was a lot of fun. but, here is a description of what he did as described by rosa menkman: http://networkcultures.org/wpmu/query/2009/11/17/martin-feuz-ch-google-pers… "Feuz starts his presentation by posing four main questions he wanted to deal with while creating Perspectoma. • how soon (after how many queries) will Google Personal search play a roll in the Google search returns? • how do these personal returns develop in terms of frequency and intensity? • what underlying patterns can we identify? • how will grouping of profiles influence the search terms? To find answers to these questions, Feuz describes the research he did according to the 3 ghost accounts based on the characters Kant, Foucault and Nietzsche. He trained all of the accounts equally in training sessions with the help of software that did different search queries. To do this, he had to find a way to make an artificial profile relational for subjective inspection of personalized search results. Hi, In Portugal, in early 2000s there were a lot of projects under the "digital cities" umbrella. But they were quite different in nature, and some more ambitious than consequential. The goals ranged from promoting basic Internet connection to online marketing strategies for tourism and local products. Telematics and Informatics has a special issue on Digital Cities coming out soon. The papers are available from the T&I Elsevier site in the Articles in Press section. The Intelligent Communities Forum (http://www.intelligentcommunity.org) promotes 21 'intelligent communities' each year. Profiles of these communities are available on their website.
