CALL FOR PAPERS CeDEM13 Conference for E-Democracy and Open Government 22-23 May 2013, Danube University Krems, Austria 22-23 May 2013 (plus pre- and post-conference events!) www.donau-uni.ac.at/cedem The CeDEM represents a continuation and development of the E-democracy conference initiated in 2007. The Centre for E-Governance at the Danube University Krems has been organising conferences on e-democracy and public administration since 2007. The CeDEM was first presented in 2011, and in the meantime also boasts a spin-off in Asia, held for the first time in November 2012. On the basis of the open discussion held with participants, track chairs and PC-members, the CeDEM13 will focus on e-democracy and open government in the context of human rights and freedom in a digital society. We invite individuals from academic and applied backgrounds as well as business, public authorities, NGO, NPOs and education institutions to submit their papers, reflections as well as workshop proposals to the topics addressed in the tracks below. We welcome interdisciplinary approaches to the emerging conference topics. I either create a PDF or JPEG screen capture of any web pages I use and save them along with all of my other references. Anyone researching post-Sandy use of online groups and social media?

This mother lode of mostly Facebook groups and pages may be of interest: http://bitly.com/sandygroups I'd be interested in what lessons can be pulled out overtime around which ones are most effective and what they really did on the ground in terms of impact. Groups go far beyond the limited impact of "Like" IMHO, but something deeper research wise would contribute a lot. On a related note here are some lessons I shared: http://bitly.com/localrecovery It is hard from a distance to determine what "dark social" nearest neighbor networking is happening online say along a destroyed stretch of beach. It would be fascinating to learn about any long-term e-networks created in urban buildings still uninhabitable and then what happens when folks return. I would guess that there are some online groups created for residents of specific buildings, but I haven't located any yet. Remembering in digitally networked times' Guest editors: Christian Pentzold (Chemnitz University of Technology / Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet & Society, Berlin) Christine Lohmeier (University of Munich) Media, Culture & Society editors: Emily Keightley (Loughborough University) Philip Schlesinger (University of Glasgow) Media and memory are often closely intertwined. From the very start of human culture, media have been employed to fix, share and store expressions and impressions of individual and collective experiences. Taking this continuing twin relation as its point of departure, this special issue seeks to showcase empirical research that studies the interplay of contemporary media, social change and acts and artifacts of memory. The editors are seeking contributions that investigate commemoration, remembrance and memory work as an essential thread in the social and material patterns of modern culture. We are especially interested in empirically grounded submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following questions: - What can we learn about the interplay of individual and collective memory and the affordances of a media ecology that is more and more digitally networked and increasingly mobile and locative? - How may we conceptualize and investigate memory taking account of the dynamics of digitisation, networking and mediatization? - Which methods and approaches are most appropriate for the study of memory work and digital and connective media? - How are memories materially and semiotically mediated? - How does memory travel? How can we conceptualise and study memory work in quotidian mobilities as well as in a range of contexts such as transcultural/transnational western and non-western movements, post-colonial contexts, diasporas and the general flows of peoples, goods and ideas? - What are the dynamics of (counter-)hegemonic discourses of memory in current mediascapes? - What can we learn about how mediated memories are realised in respect of power, class, ethnicity, religion and gender?
