Non-software uses of GitHub

I’m looking for GitHub repositories that are used for things other than software, especially where users are actively collaborating rather than just putting together static collections. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. Does anyone know of any examples of these or other categories? Any pointers much appreciated. Happy to share what we find with anyone interested. Hello! I'm wondering what AoIR members think of building a Discord? I realize that there are several platforms out there, and ironically we all are probably "too close" to some of the failings and/or opportunities of community, communication and digital space, but I would imagine that this group would probably hold a strong consensus that group email threads and listservs is an outdated way to share, organize, search for, and apply information. I'd love to connect more deeply with anyone who's interested. The network has organised preconferences at ECREA 2021 and ICA2022, and has a preconference accepted for ICA2023 in Toronto. There is also a network of PhD-candidates. Hi all — I emailed the list earlier in the year asking if anyone knew of any bibliographies of 1) books, specifically 2) in the field of Internet Studies, broadly defined. The reason for my question was I’m asking my students to write a book review of a monograph in the field for my class <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rshp8enFUQ2_vfuSHN88twwQXxXiDRYx_NTPU2i…> this spring, and wanted to give them a resource so they could find something in their interest area. A few people responded asking me to let them know if I found anything, but I didn’t, nor could my departmental librarian. There are plenty of syllabi for a topic area across many forms of scholarship (articles, books, films, etc), but nothing I could find for books, specifically. So my TA and I built a Google Form <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf_WaVIdg9Rh--nodpMWYKpLSj03zxouh5…> to help us make one. If you enter in the ISBN number of a book, it queries the Google Books API and populates the results to a public spreadsheet here <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ik83LPyjjqQLfWim53CEObnXdiVDqSkGJ0l…>. It pulls in the book description (from the publisher) and the subject areas (from the LoC), so that it is (reasonably) searchable. My TA and I just started entering in some books from our syllabus and some books that popped into our head, but I wanted to send it out to AoIR in case anyone here wants to contribute or use the list. If you want to contribute — please do! We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible, and you should definitely blast your own books into here, or those of friends, or whatever. It’s a work in progress and we’ll be figuring it out as we go along but hopefully it’s a helpful resource for someone (beyond just my students this term). Best, — Chris

This theoretical and technical work was done at the Institut de la Recherche et l’Innovation, the World Wide Web Consortium and the Unlike Us network in the period 2011-2014. As demonstrated by tracing Facebook’s lineage to a reading of the concept of mimesis from Girard by Thiel, already then the toxic influence of Facebook on the mental condition of young users was known. In contrast, Stiegler’s work quickly focused on alternative architectures and the development of new concepts: Another social network is possible.

Historical Reddit Data Collection

Good afternoon all, I'm making a call for help regarding collecting reddit data from a particular sub-reddit (/r/teachers). I'm looking to collect all of the posts (+comments, replies, etc.) starting August 1, 2022 to present for a project I am working on. The problem is that I don't code, so the many tutorials about how to do it with Python aren't helpful for me. I have been using a great tool called commualytic (developed by some Canadian scholars - also does Twitter, Telegram, and CrowdTangle [Facebook/Insta]) that generates lovely CSV files, but due to a recent change in the Reddit Pushshift API, only the last 31 days of subreddit data are available. If there is anyone out there that could help me with this, point me in the direction of another tool that I could use, or a capable student or colleague that might be able to help, I would be much obliged.
