Produire les savoirs : les enjeux relationnels entre humains et non-humains en questions Il est beaucoup question de ChatGPT, l'agent conversationnel qui nous propose des textes sur tous les sujets relevant de la connaissance humaine. Pour les uns, il s'agit d'une percée majeure en termes d'« intelligence artificielle » générative. Pour les autres, ces améliorations rapides ne doivent pas être vues comme des exploits techniques, mais au contraire comme autant de sources de problèmes sociaux majeurs. Au-delà, cette actualité renvoie à s'interroger sur les frontières entre humains et non-humains. Ces débats ne sont pas complètement nouveaux dans notre champ, celui de la sociologie de la communication. Dès 1950, Alan Turing avait inventé un test dit « test de Turing » qui avait pour but de s'interroger sur la capacité d'une machine à penser en demandant à un être humain s'il pensait communiquer avec un autre être humain ou avec une machine... Aujourd'hui, les mêmes questions se posent, mais avec une acuité toute nouvelle. Les enjeux sociaux s'avèrent majeurs, par exemple à propos du rôle des algorithmes dans les recommandations d'œuvres culturelles sur les plateformes au détriment de médiations humaines plus traditionnelles. Ou bien du rôle de ces mêmes algorithmes dans la mise en visibilité de certains contenus sur les réseaux socionumériques qui favorisent la reproduction des idées dominantes via les bulles de filtre, voire trompent les internautes en laissant proliférer des nouvelles falsifiées. En raison de la place et du rôle pris par les médias (socio)numériques à une échelle quasi-planétaire, le capital et le pouvoir s'avèrent de plus en plus concentrés entre quelques géants du capitalisme, des régimes politiques stables sont susceptibles d'être déstabilisés et les big data sont utilisées massivement pour analyser, voire prédire, nos comportements. Face à de tels enjeux, quels sont les objets et terrains à privilégier ? Est-il encore possible de distinguer clairement les places respectives des humains et des techniques, de la technique ? Quelles sont les pratiques de résistance aussi bien à propos des collectes de données qu'en termes de détournements d'usages et de tentatives de contournement des logiques d'hameçonnage de l'attention ? Ces pratiques visent-elles à protéger nos vies privées, à tenter de renouveler les formes de sociabilité et de vivre-ensemble, ou bien à remettre en cause les formes prises par le capitalisme ? Examples of digital citizenship and (media)literacy guides and projects

Dear colleagues, Right now we’re conducting research for the Dutch Royal Library to make an inventory of national and international digital citizenship initiatives. Our aim is to develop a guide that supports librarians, teachers and students to make an informed decision with regards to this topic when they want to organize an initiative or (research)project by themselves. I’m looking for examples of such guides internationally, from which we could learn (type of content, user experience design, media formats etc.). Examples of successful international digital citizenship projects are also very welcome! Additionally I would appreciate it very much if members of the AoIR community would like to share their definition of ‘digital citizenship’. We already learned that digital citizenship includes a broad array of definitions, often in direct connection with other terminology such as media literacy. Many thanks for your help! There is lots of room at the CTC for scholarship on young people and digital cultures, social media, digital technologies etc. Natalie CHILD AND TEEN CONSUMPTION 2024 11th Interdisciplinary Conference on Child and Teen Consumption October 16 -18 2024, York University, Toronto, Canada PLAYING WITH BORDERS The 2024 edition of the Child and Teen Consumption Conference will be held in Toronto (Canada) and will be hosted by York University, October 16-18, 2024. The theme of the 11th Child and Teen Consumption Conference is Playing with Borders. The borders and boundaries of young people’s cultural worlds are messy and in flux, especially in the spaces of consumer culture, digital culture and media culture. From the borders between the analog and the digital, the authentic and the branded, the global and the local, play and labour to, food and fun, young people contest, resist, negotiate, push and play with the boundaries in the between. We invite research and approaches that interrogate the concepts and definition of children’s and teens “play”, and how young people themselves “play” in mediated and digitized spaces. This theme is dedicated to the critical study of issues relevant to child and teen consumption, with methods and perspectives drawn from across the humanities and qualitative social sciences. We welcome applications from any discipline, department, or field. We are especially eager to receive applications that approach such questions from critical perspectives that centre marginalized selves: queer, trans, feminist, crip, antiracist, abolitionist, decolonial, Indigenous, diasporic, transnational, and so on. CFP Special Issue for New Media & Society: "Contextual Complexities of Violence on Digital Platforms"

Dear community members! We are thrilled to share with you this CFP for our Special Issue with New Media & Society devoted to "Contextual Complexities of Violence on Digital Platforms" *Context* The world now seems more fraught with violence than ever, intricately interwoven into the fabric of our contemporary digital ecosystem. The escalating accessibility and ubiquity of digital platforms across the globe have facilitated a corresponding rise in the frequency of violence perpetrated through diverse infrastructural channels. So far, studies have observed a growing prevalence of violence executed on and through digital platforms. For example, research has emphasized that platform affordances like Feeds and DMs provide perpetrators with new avenues to exert control, intimidate, surveil, and harass women (Dragiewicz et al., 2018; Jane, 2014). Others have shown how audiovisual memes can be manipulated to expand and reproduce hate speech (Matamoros-Fernández et al., 2023), along with studies exploring the distressing psychological repercussions experienced by users exposed to content featuring real-world violence (Stubbs et al., 2022). Undoubtedly, digital environments have emerged as spaces that simultaneously sustain and expand intersecting forms of symbolic violence, including racism (Jakubowicz, 2017) and gender inequality (Cepeda, 2018). They have also become battlegrounds for countering and contesting forms of material and cultural violence, such as anti-racist efforts and police accountability (Lamont-Hill, 2018), as well as digital mobilization to advocate for differently-abled individuals (Mann, 2018). Within this broad context, this special issue strives to enhance the understanding of the diverse forms, actors, and perceptions associated with online violence, serving as a crucial stride toward cultivating a healthier digital landscape. Specifically, as advocated by Dwyer (2017), we wish to emphasize the importance of contextualizing violent behavior and content within their respective cultural and historical frameworks. This call for contextualized understandings of violence arises at a time when addressing online harm necessitates a multifaceted approach, encompassing political, technical, and social dimensions, to effectively navigate the intricacies of local cultures. This significance is highlighted by Schoenebeck et al. (2023), underscoring the pivotal role of local culture as the foremost determinant of how individuals perceive violence on digital platforms. In this context, nuanced examinations of digital violence are indispensable for crafting fitting responses to the multifaceted ecologies of violence on social media. Therefore, our objective in this issue is to compile contributions that explore the impact, reach, and various manifestations of online violence as experienced and perceived within specific sociocultural contexts. Underlying the goal of this call for papers is a desire to engage with scholars who are exploring violence on digital platforms as a cultural experience (Cover, 2022) that reinforces or resists existing power structures (Marwick, 2021; McCosker, 2014). Our call welcomes scholars to delve into the stickiness of mediated violence (Zelinzer, 2023), encouraging contributions on how online harm can serve as vehicles for both productive and destructive forces within contemporary cultures. We especially encourage interdisciplinary contributions that go beyond definitional or methodological issues around violence on digital platforms and emphasize its social, political, and ethical implications (Jane, 2015) on a global scale, with a particular emphasis on non-Western contexts. Accordingly, we invite submissions that address topics including, but not limited to, the following: ● Perceptions, experiences, and actors involved in the symbiotic relationship of offline and digital violence within various sociocultural contexts. ● Perceptions, experiences, and actors involved in algorithmic violence enacted within specific communities and contextual settings. ● Perpetuation and amplification of symbolic violence through digital platforms. ● Networked violence centered around attacking and revealing the identity of digital personas (e.g., doxxing as a form of violence exacted on minoritized individuals). ● Collective mobilization and contestation to counter material and symbolic violence on digital platforms. ● Escalating endorsement of violence as a method for collective mobilization. ● Digital resistance of platform and algorithmic bias. *Information for authors* Potential contributors should submit a 1,200-word abstract (excluding references), a 100-word bio, and the corresponding author's contact information to the guest editors. Feel free to consult the special issue editors about your article ideas and potential angles or approaches. After the abstracts have been selected, authors will be invited to submit a full paper. Please note that acceptance of an abstract does not guarantee publication, given that all papers will go through the journal’s peer review process. *Abstract structure* The extended abstract should present a coherent narrative on online violence while highlighting how the authors respond to the special issue call. It must emphasize the distinctive contributions of the study and provide an introduction to the empirical case study being explored. Furthermore, the abstract should outline the research methods employed and provide a clear indication within the findings section of the current stage of the work, whether it is still to be completed, in development, or at the writing phase. *** First Call for Doctoral Consortium Papers *** 36th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE'24) June 3-7, 2024, 5* St. Raphael Resort and Marina, Limassol, Cyprus https://cyprusconferences.org/caise2024/ (*** Submission Deadline: 8th March, 2024 AoE ***) The CAiSE conference series has a proud track record of running an international Doctoral Consortium affiliated with the event. The CAiSE'24 Doctoral Consortium aims to attract PhD students working on foundations, techniques, tools and applications in the Information Systems Engineering field. At the Doctoral Consortium, the participating PhD students will have the opportunity to present their research and to get feedback from an audience of peers and senior faculty in a supportive environment. There will also be discussions tailored to the needs and interests of PhD students. The goals of the Doctoral Consortium are to ensure that participating PhD students: • receive constructive and personalized feedback and advice on their research program by dedicated Doctoral Consortium mentors, • provide an opportunity to meet, interact with and learn from established researchers and practitioners in the Information Systems Engineering community, • develop a supportive community of peer scholars and a spirit of collaborative research, • discuss broader opportunities and concerns related to a PhD study and post-PhD pathways. To be eligible for the Doctoral Consortium, the candidate must be a current PhD student within a recognized research institution. We welcome submissions of both late-stage PhD students (having at least 6 months of work after the conference and before their expected completion), and early-stage PhD students (with at least 6 months of work already performed prior to the submission date). WHY SUBMITTING TO THE CAiSE'24 DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM? The CAiSE'24 Doctoral Consortium will be attended by renowned academics from the Information Systems Engineering field who will actively participate as mentors for the PhD students accepted to the Doctoral Consortium. The participating PhD students will receive constructive reviews on their submission, as well as personalized guidance by Doctoral Consortium mentors regarding their research program and presentation at the Consortium event. Accepted papers will be published in the CEUR proceedings (https://ceur-ws.org/) which are indexed in DBLP. Participants of the CAiSE Doctoral Consortium will be subsequently eligible to submit their PhD thesis (after the degree is granted) for a CAiSE PhD Award. SUBMISSION PROCESS Submissions must be made electronically by the stated deadline via the EasyChair conference system at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caise2024 . Each submission should contain (i) a recommendation letter from the student’s PhD advisor, and (ii) a paper describing the research plans and the current status of progress (see more details in the Paper Submission Guidelines section). Submissions must have a single author, but the name of the PhD advisors should be mentioned in the paper (usually in the Acknowledgments section). Submissions should concern original research. All submitted materials must be in English. Attendees must have sufficient proficiency in English for being allowed to participate in the academic discussions of the Consortium. Submissions of both early and late-stage PhD students are welcome. Submissions of early-stage PhD students should concentrate on the selection of the research methods to apply, the realization and contextualization of the relevant literature, the expected pitfalls and ways to mitigate them. Submissions of late-stage PhD students should also include preliminary research results and discuss to some extent conclusions and threats. The recommendation letter from the PhD advisor should include an assessment of the current status of the research, an expected date for the completion of the dissertation, a delineation of the anticipated benefits for the student's participation at the Consortium and details of any submissions associated with the research. PAPER CONTENT AND FORMAT The paper must: • clearly formulate the research questions investigated in the thesis, • identify a significant problem in the field of Information System Engineering, • outline the current status of the problem domain and related solutions, • describe the research methods that are applied or proposed and the expected artifacts, • outline the contributions of the applicant’s work to the problem domain and highlight their uniqueness, • present any preliminary results achieved so far (mainly relevant for late-stage PhD students), • conform to the CEURART template using the 1-column layout format (thus, NOT the Springer LNCS format and NOT in multiple column layouts); the most recent template (including Word and LaTeX) can be downloaded from http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/index.html, • contain up to 4,000 words (including everything, e.g., references, tables, figures). REVIEW PROCESS Each submission will be reviewed by two members of the Doctoral Consortium Mentoring Board. The main evaluation criteria are: relevance, originality, significance, technical soundness, accuracy, clarity and the expected benefits to the student from participating in the Doctoral Consortium. Acceptance is based on the review outcomes. ATTENDANCE AND REGISTRATION FEE The Doctoral Consortium is held in parallel with the main CAiSE conference on 5-7 June 2024. The presentations and decisions are expected to take place in person, so attendance in the entire Doctoral Consortium is required. To facilitate detailed feedback to the participants, attendance to the Doctoral Consortium is by invitation only, limited to the participants and the Mentoring Board. There is no separate registration fee for participants in the Doctoral Consortium. Participants should register to the main conference by selecting either the “Main conference” option or another option that includes the main conference.
