Non-software uses of GitHub

I’m looking for GitHub repositories that are used for things other than software, especially where users are actively collaborating rather than just putting together static collections. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. Does anyone know of any examples of these or other categories? Any pointers much appreciated. Happy to share what we find with anyone interested. Hello! I'm wondering what AoIR members think of building a Discord? I realize that there are several platforms out there, and ironically we all are probably "too close" to some of the failings and/or opportunities of community, communication and digital space, but I would imagine that this group would probably hold a strong consensus that group email threads and listservs is an outdated way to share, organize, search for, and apply information. I'd love to connect more deeply with anyone who's interested. Representology Live Conference Representology Live conference invites submissions on all aspects of diversity and the media. The event is hosted by the School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC) and it takes place at Cardiff University on the 27th of June 2024. Submissions to representology(a)cardiff.ac.uk<mailto:representology@cardiff.ac.uk> The organisers especially encourage contributions addressing the theme of Media and Representation: Ideas for Changing the World. This includes, but is not limited to, papers addressing themes such as: * Promoting change in media * Media futures: tackling organisational biases * Youth and the media - creating diverse careers * Creating diversity in media leadership Confirmed keynote speakers include Sir Lenny Henry and Dr David Dunkley Gyimah (co-founder of Representology) The conference fee is £50 (£30 for students), which includes a buffet lunch and tea/coffee breaks and networking drinks at the end of the conference. Please do not submit more than one abstract as first author, with no more than two abstracts in total. The deadline for abstracts (250 words maximum) is April 12th, 2024. The ESRC Digital Good Network <http://www.digitalgood.net/> aims to enhance our collective understanding of what a good digital society should look like and how we get there, by focusing on questions of equity, sustainability and collective well-being. We are recruiting two Grade 7 postdoctoral researchers. *A 3 year, full-time postdoctoral researcher *to work with us on the Digital Good Index <https://digitalgood.net/digital-good-index/>. The Digital Good Index will be a framework or set of principles or values which can be used to evaluate digital innovations and deployments to ensure good societal outcomes. It will build on Digital Good Network research, interviews and roundtable discussions, and existing guidelines. *Deadline: 12th April 2024* *A 10-month, full-time postdoctoral researcher* with expertise in evidence reviewing, to work on a project focused on including public voices in AI research, development and policy (RD&P). Rodwell argues that at the dawn of a potentially transformative moment in television history, content conservatism has triumphed over technological innovation. Despite the ambition and idealism of Japanese TV professionals and independent journalists, corporate media worked to squelch interactive broadcast projects such as smartphone-playable television and live-streamed and open press conferences before they caught on. Instead, interactive programming in the hands of major TV networks retained the structure and qualities of most other television and maintained conventional barriers between audiences and the actual space of broadcast. Despite their lack of success, the innovators behind these experiments nonetheless sought to expand the possibilities for mass media, national identity, and open journalism.

Best Tim https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-public-talk-by-professor-tim-jordan-on-gov… What the Talk is About In exploring the impact of the digital economy on governance, this talk will delve into the prevailing dominance of neoliberalism and its integration of market principles into civil society, institutional government, and the economy. It will question whether the rise of the digital economy will challenge this dominance and introduce new forms of governance based on networking. Drawing on Foucault's concept of homo economicus, the discussion will examine how terms like biopower and governmentality will intersect with neoliberalism, prompting an analysis of the digital economy's role in reshaping governance structures. Examining practices within the digital economy, such as targeted advertising and service platforms like Uber, will reveal the continuation of neoliberal forms alongside the emergence of alternative governance models. These models, characterized by networked subjectivities facilitated by peer-to-peer interactions and protocols, will redefine power dynamics and information dissemination. The analysis will consider the fusion of hierarchical and heterarchical governance structures, emphasizing the importance of information as a structuring principle. Networking governance will be presented as a multifaceted approach, encompassing various forms of practice, subjectivities, and institutional arrangements. This is a talk organised by Borderlines - An Interdisciplinary Research Collective committed to social justice, radical, experimental and innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary pedagogies and alternative conceptual paradigms.
