Efforts to understand the implications of this socio-technical shift have insufficiently attended to Indigenous lives, epistemologies, and political economies. This panel moderates a dialogue regarding Indigenized impacts of 4th industrial revolution extractivism. Long abstract of fewer than 300 words. Include a brief discussion of its contribution to the field. STS research has long shown that natural resource extraction uniquely impacts Indigenous lives, knowledges, lands, and political economies. Historically, legal orders of colonizers have claimed sovereign rights to land, resources, and ways of knowing over and against the claims of Indigenous peoples. Yet, enrolling colonial subjects in the processes of extraction is increasingly necessary for firms nowadays. As extraction becomes increasingly digitalized – automated, saturated with sensors, guided at all stages by AI, and – extraction’s impacts on Indigenous communities are likely to shift and are not sufficiently considered in the literature to date. During the late 20th century, Indigenous communities increasingly bargained with resource firms to provide laborers and services to what were commonly the remote sites of extraction. These may be “left behind” as work becomes more remote, or alternatively, these jobs may increase as firms are forced to rework other jobs. Still, Indigenous epistemologies may become more incommensurate with digital infrastructures, or corporate financial and investment strategies may find depreciated fiscal benefits for local groups. Further, Indigenous paradigms can help inform and guide a reconceptualization of digital extraction, and highlight the pressing material consequences of research in this area. This panel aims to provide space for researchers thinking about (1) How STS can (re)conceive digitalized resource extraction, particularly in the ways digital infrastructures shape, enclose, and operationalize Indigenous knowledge? (2) How are Indigenous communities, epistemologies, and political economies implicated in the digitalization of extraction? (3) What political strategies show promise toward resisting extractive neocolonialism, empowering Indigenous communities, and doing decolonial research “otherwise”? We seek to platform a dialogue with activists, community members, and scholars working on extraction’s shifting impacts on Indigenous lives, knowledges, and political economies, and the ways in which political strategies may shift accordingly. We seek work that emphasizes an understanding of the role played by money, financing, and business structures in the study of technology and science. Moving beyond an economic analysis, this work should highlight the role of capital and finance’s movements, norms, and infrastructures in animating science and technology, inflecting and directing the performance of these spaces and their own ideologies, imaginaries, and infrastructures. We are interested in exploring the constitutive nature of money, finance, funding, and business models in the development of technologies and technosocial/technopolitical landscapes. Some sub-themes are of particular interest include: temporalities of money, finance, and speculation; imaginaries of risk, particularly financialized risk; the role of the “frontier” (geographic, political, intellectual) in the technocapitalist imaginary and its influence on the practices of firms; the connected lives of “money,” “innovation,” and “science”; and the social meanings of money and markets in science. We hope to engage with a variety of methods in this project, with the particular hope that contributors will strongly engage with the local. Dealing unapologetically with ways in which the global logics of technocapital are often chewed up, altered, and digested by the specificities of the local context provides an opportunity to examine the tensions of resistance, collaboration, collusion, adaptation, and imitations, and enmeshment that often accompany these projects. We are keen on work that engages with the business to business sector, which concretizes and makes visible formerly abstract, hidden, or obscured processes and relationships. In particular, we invite you to submit an abstract to our panel #71: *Mapping Public Space through Participatory Data Narratives and Cartographies* (Convenors: Sonia Bergamo, Enrico Petrilli, Francesca Valsecchi, and Ángeles Briones). This panel explores participatory cartographies as critical tools for implementing a scientifically informed approach to data, particularly within the Science and Technology Studies (STS) framework for describing and analysing public space. These areas are analyzed not only for their function as physical environments for social interactions but also as symbolic representations of the commons. Participatory cartography approach emphasizes the involvement of local communities in the creation and use of maps, including the data collection and the construction of mapping narratives. Such an approach provides a framework for STS to build upon the instrument of STS while incorporating the social sciences’ critical perspectives, fostering an inclusive, equitable, and context-sensitive understanding of spatial data. Participatory cartography challenges traditional divides between researchers and subjects by empowering communities and recognizing their unique knowledge and experiences. It advances representations that extend beyond mere geographical metrics, leveraging the combined strengths of quantitative and qualitative data for comprehensive, systemic insights. In doing so, it enhances the relevance and accuracy of spatial data, supporting a richer portrayal of public spaces. Participatory cartography significantly supports STS data management. It integrates local knowledge and community engagement throughout data collection and analysis. This approach champions open access to data, data empowerment, and community ownership, positioning data as a tool for informed public policymaking. The goal of the panel is to explore and document the complex entanglements within public spaces, examining both human and non-human agencies in the collective knowledge domain. Special emphasis will be given to marginalized practices and “stigmatized actors” (such as unhoused individuals, youth, non-human species, and non-normative social practices) often sidelined in policy discourse. Employing a diffractive methodology, we seek contributions that incorporate both human and non-human actors - including psychoactive substances, informal urban infrastructures, agents of gray economies, and ecological entities - offering nuanced perspectives on the environments they shape. Presentations are encouraged to promote epistemic justice by reimagining public spaces as inclusive, adaptive, and creative environments that address diverse needs across human and non-human domains. Information technology has the capacity to enable smart, virtual persuasive environments that simultaneously provide multimodal cues and psycho-physiological feedback for personal change by strengthening emotional, social, and physical presence. Numerous persuasive applications have been developed over the past decades with the aim of inducing desirable behavioral changes. These applications have shown promising results in motivating and supporting people to change or adopt new behaviors and attitudes in various domains such as health and wellbeing. The field of persuasive technology continues to be a crucial link between different sciences, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of behavior change support systems and an interdisciplinary approach to their design, implementation, and evaluation. However, the full potential of technologies to shape behaviors and continuously track the progress and outcomes of interventions currently are not used to their full potential. The BCSS workshop seeks to shed new light on the various processes of digital persuasion. Yet, although human-computer interaction is social in nature and people may even see software applications as social actors, it is still mostly unclear how these interactions end-up shaping attitudes, beliefs, and emotions. Additionally, the extent to which these interactions influence behavior, and, even more so, the pitfalls and possible drawbacks of persuasion via technologies are not yet fully understood. Moreover, as people interact with information technologies, they, at the same time, keep modifying their environment as well as adjust their goals during use time. This seems to indicate that digital persuasion is not a one-time, isolated event but rather an ongoing, dynamic process. Since its inception, the BCSS workshop has emphasized the highly interdisciplinary approach required for developing and implementing behavior change support strategies and their associated systems. The workshop provides a scholarly forum connecting multidisciplinary researchers, practitioners and experts from various scientific disciplines such as information systems science, human-computer interaction, industrial design, psychology and medicine. Beyond peer-reviewed scientific paper presentations, discussions and debates on the pillars of BCSSs are being conducted. The theme of this year’s event, *“Generative AI and behavior change support systems: Leveraging innovations for a lasting impact,” *especially seeks, but is not limited to, submissions that utilize cutting-edge technologies such as AI and innovative methodologies in the design, development and implementation of BCSS. The ultimate goal is to create flexible and efficient behavior change support systems that promote long-term behavioral modifications across various domains. *Paper submission* Scientific papers in two categories are sought for (the submission can be either in CEUR or Springer LNCS format): (a) Full papers, max 16 pages. The Catherine Will Symposium - April 14th 2025, University of Sussex The symposium honours the life and work of Catherine Will, Professor of Science and Technology Studies, University of Sussex. Catherine died in 2024 and left a legacy of academic work across a number of social science areas, including science and technology studies (STS), sociology of health, medicine and illness, politics and economics of health, social practices, research methods, social theory and social justice. This one-day symposium will bring together researchers from a range of disciplines and topics that have connections to themes and approaches in Catherine’s work. We are calling for short papers (ten minute presentations) in any area related to STS; politics, economics and sociology of health, medicine and illness; sociology as practice and social theory. **apologies for cross-posting** The HHAI 2025 Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place as part of the 4th International Conference on Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence in June 2025, Pisa, Italy: https://hhai-conference.org/2025/ This forum will provide early as well as middle/late-stage PhD students in the field of Hybrid Intelligence focusing on the study of Artificial Intelligence systems that cooperate synergistically, proactively and purposefully with humans, amplifying instead of replacing human intelligence. The Doctoral Consortium will take place in person at the HHAI 2025 conference. The DC provides an opportunity to present and discuss their doctoral research ideas and progress in a supportive, formative and yet critical environment and receive feedback from reviewers, mentors and peers from the field of Hybrid Intelligence. The Doctoral Consortium will also provide opportunities to network and build collaborations with other members of the HHAI community. We welcome submissions across research HHAI-related domains such as AI, HCI, cognitive and social sciences, philosophy & ethics, complex systems, and others (see “Topics of interest”). The event is intended for early as well as middle/late-stage PhD candidates and asks them to formulate and submit a concrete PhD research proposal, preferably supported by some preliminary results. The proposal will be peer-reviewed.
