Implementation and confirmation in Rogers' innovation decision process

Dear colleagues, I am conducting a research regarding discontinuance of an innovation (an intranet), but I am troubled in conceptualizing/operationalizing discontinuance. In Rogers' framework, discontinuance is located in confirmation stage and mainly occurs due to dissonance between users' expectation and the functions/results provided by the innovation, and negative information obtained from users' communication network. And, Rogers (1983) argues that 'discontinuance is one indication of incomplete routinization and institutionalization.' The point is, however, that routinization and institutionalization should be achieved during implementation stage, which is why Rogers posits that actual innovation adoption process ends here. So, my question is whether we should understand routinization and institutionalization as pre-conditions for discontinuance or not. In addition, in Rogers' model, actual use starts at implementation stage since adoption stage concerns mental process rather than behavioral change. Thus, implementation stage intrinsically includes trials and evaluations. If, this understanding is correct, a seemingly important questions raise; why we need a separate stage of confirmation; if implementation and confirmation differ, what we confirm during confirmation stage; if confirmation stage aims to confirm the existence of new innovations (ideas) including comparisons between an adopted innovation and new innovations, confirmation stage intrinsically includes components of a new innovation adoption process. I am currently leading a team of graduate students who are investigating Facebook. Specifically, we are investigating motivations to use Facebook and the outcomes associated with such use. Finding information that satisfies specific criteria is a regular daily activity of almost every Web user. Recent Web statistics showed that almost 65% of the online citizens are non-English language users. As the Web population continues to grow, especially in Asia, Africa, and South America, more non-English users will be amassed online. Recent studies showed that non-English queries and unclassifiable queries have nearly tripled in the last decade. The main conclusion from previous research is that most search engine features are primarily focused on the English language. Based on previous studies and on the experiences and conclusions of the iNEWS07 (Improving Non-English Web Searching) ACM SIGIR'07 Workshop, the special issue aims to address the challenges and directions in Non-English Web retrieval. For the special issue we seek high quality papers with theoretical and/or experimental orientation. Methods question

I have a methods question that I'm hoping someone can provide some pointers and insights into. I am going to use a method that seems like it would have been used before, but I've had trouble hunting down examples, likely because they would be buried in literature from many different disciplines. Here is the scenario... I am going to perform a study of an IM interaction. I will have approximately 100 pairs that will communicate with each other via IM. People on one side of the interaction will ask a question and people on the other side will answer the question. After the interaction, each participant will fill out a brief questionnaire about the interaction. I am interested in comparing the different perceptions of the same interaction (e.g., the timeliness and quality of the interaction). Have any of you performed a similar study where people are paired up for some experience and then individually asked what their perceptions of the experience were? If so, do you have any pointers to papers or methods texts that I could review to get ideas on the specific analysis techniques or questions that I may want to consider?
