Coordinated by prof. Alessandro Gandini, taught by an international faculty comprising some of the most important digital scholars in their own field, the curriculum is focused on the critical study of datafication, platformisation, digital media andsocieties. It features a combination of theoretical and methodological modules taught by a faculty of internationally renown scholars in the academic field of digital media and sociology of communication, including: * Digital society * Social media and platform cultures * Visual communication * Digital politics and public opinion research * AI and data cultures * Coding for the computational social science * Data analysis & research design * Journalism, media & politics * Consumer culture * Value change in global societies This is the flagship curriculum of the nascent Milan School of Mediaand Communication (https://msmc.unimi.it/people/) a new research initiative that brings together researchers at the University of Milan with an interest in digital media and communication, platform studies, journalism, digital methods and artificial intelligence, and public opinion research. For EU candidates and visa holders, there are 200 places available. Applications may be submitted until 25 August 2026. Admission is subject to an entry test, undertaken online on 2 September 2026 h. 9.30 am. Classes start on the third week of September and are taught entirely in English. New publication: Imagining the Internet(s): A Collaborative Glossary

Dear AoIR community, We are pleased to announce the publication of *Imagining the Internet(s): A Collaborative Glossary*, edited by Nathalie Fridzema and Anya Shchetvina, and published with the Institute of Network Cultures. The glossary brings together 28 keywords to help us think about the internet as an imagined object and each written by a different scholar, offering personal reflections rather than encyclopaedic definitions. Entries span sociotechnical imaginaries, infrastructural ideologies, vernacular metaphors, algorithmic folklore, net scepticism, and many more, grouped into five thematic clusters: Science & Regulation, Design & Materiality, Rhetoric & Representation, Affects & Reception, and Temporality & Scale. Each entry includes a list of recommended readings. The glossary grew out of Matter of Imagination, an open-format working group dedicated to studying the discourses, narratives, and tropes surrounding desired and undesired technosocial futures. It was made possible through funding from EASST. Video Campaign: Voice Actors & AI

Hi AoIR, Today is Voice Actor's Day in Brazil! DigiLabour research lab (University of Toronto), the Brazilian Voice Actors' Association (Dublar), and the Dublagem Viva movement are launching a video campaign in defence of human work in voice acting, calling for AI regulation that respects workers and cultural identities. The campaign argues that this labour cannot be erased by systems that clone and synthesize voices. "No technology has the right to erase what makes us human." It features two voices that are part of the public's affective memory in Brazil: Cec?lia Lemes and Carlos Campanile. Alongside the Brazilian professionals, the video brings together a transnational alliance, in partnership with four voice actor associations around the world. In it, voice actors each declare, in their own language, "this is my voice," to show that defending vocie acting is a shared cause that crosses borders. Participants include Tim Friedlander, president of the National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA) in the United States; Maureen Herman of ChileVoces in Chile; Ganessh Divekar, president of the Association of Voice Artists (AVA) in Mumbai, India; and Doroth?e Anziger of the Synchronverband ? Die Gilde in Germany. "Together, we are many voices," says one passage. Voice actors are today among the cultural workers mobilizing most actively against the uses of AI worldwide. According to the database on the topic maintained by the Creative Labour & Critical Futures project, which maps strikes, protests, and campaigns by cultural workers in relation to AI around the world, voice acting is one of the most active categories in this mobilization and the one with the strongest presence in the Global South. Digital Intimacies 12: Intimately Disconnected 4-5 December 2026 (Friday and Saturday), The University of Sydney Submission Deadline: 28 August 2026 In 2017, our conference explored the theme of connection and disconnection. Since then, our society has experienced a distinct ?disconnection turn? (Fast, 2021). Concepts such as ?non-use,? ?withdrawal,? and ?resistance? have been increasingly applied to various forms of mobile and digital media. Disconnection has been theorised as an identity practice (Agai, 2022) and as a manifestation of class dynamics (Fast et al., 2021). It can take many forms?voluntary, involuntary, or reluctantly voluntary (Cassidy, 2018). More recently, we are witnessing the emergence of newer forms and discourses of disconnection: social media and dating app fatigue, social media bans, a Gen Z exodus from the internet, digital detoxes, trends in unsubscribing from film streaming platforms, return to in-person events after COVID, and more. For Digital Intimacies 12, we ask key questions that challenge our raison d??tre: What remains of digital intimacies when we are digitally disconnected? How do we develop and maintain intimacies while we are digitally disconnected? Do we develop new forms of intimacies because we are digitally disconnected?
