Hello All: My name is Casey Holmes and I am a student at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. For my Canine Cultural Studies class, taught by Alice Kuzniar, I am writing a term paper comparing Facebook to a similar website - but for dogs - called Dogster. I was wondering whether any of the members of the AIR-L listerve are aware of any academic publishings and materials about Facebook that would help me in writing this paper; the resources here are surprisingly limited! Purdue University's Serious Games Research Forum

Dear colleagues, We invite you to join us for a Serious Games Research Forum at Purdue University, October 11-12, 2007. The keynote speaker will be James Gee, Mary Lou Fulton Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies at Arizona State University, and author of the recently released "Good Video Games and Good Learning: Collected Essays on Video Games, Learning and Literacy." Participants include Alice Robison, of MIT's Comparative Media Studies; Mia Consalvo, of Ohio University; Ben Stokes of MacArthur Foundation and Games to Change; Sheri Graner Ray, of Sirenia Games; Christoph Hoffmann, of Purdue University; Samantha Blackmon, of Purdue University; and others. In addition to humanistic and social science perspectives on serious games, the forum includes presentations from Purdue faculty in computer science, computer graphics technology, and engineering, with a presentation about the new games-based course in aerospace design planned for Fall 2008. There will be a Town Hall forum Thursday evening 7-9pm; the Friday research forum runs from 9am-3:45pm. The day ends with a tour of Purdue's Envision Center for Data Perceptualization, and a presentation by Gary Bertoline on cyber-enabled learning infrastructures. Stumbled upon (funny how it's hard to use that phrase now... I should have said "serendipitously found"!) this tonight. It was linked from http://www.libervis.com/. It's a very small site just pointing out that the ratio of women to men is far worse within the Free Software community than in general ICT (which, as we all know, is very far from the global norm). Michael Wilson, who has worked in the position since the establishment of the journal in 2000, is leaving. We are very grateful to Michael for doing a wonderful job. The position of technical editor is of great importance in an online journal, and Michael has worked hard at, amongst other things, designing the journal website and then ensuing that it ran smoothly. Requirements: The technical editor for the JGB would need to know the following programs: HTML, CSS, Adobe Acrobat, Dreamweaver Additional skills in the following would be useful: Flash, Adobe Pagemaker, Photoshop Previous experiences in working with online applications would be of much value but not an absolute necessity. Please note that the JGB is run completely by volunteers. Help with Facebook Research

hello, I am planning a survey of Facebook members at NJIT, where I am a PhD student. I would like to write a web crawl or similar program to identify through Facebook who is part of the NJIT network. I have seen other papers discuss this technique, but I need more specific details as to how to accomplish it. Any ideas?
