Hi Holly: The University of the Arts is a private university in Philadephia with about 2300 students. Its College of Media and Communication offers several courses that focus on internet & society in a few different contexts. Can someone point me to a good open source reference citation program that works?

Can someone point me to a good open source reference citation and formatting program that works and is easy to use? I write a lot but I find myself cut in the web of digging through several manuscripts to locate sources and then having to having to cut and paste which is inefficient. My primary concern is for APA style but I will not mind one that can do APA and Chicago or MLA or their combo. Thanks in advance Oh by the way I'm using MS word 2003. Bolanle

different strokes for different disciplines

Different disciplines have different rules re Citation forms. Sociology (and me) prefer full first names -- we are people after all. Psych (and those like Comm who follow APA) use initials. This always seemed antiseptic. I use Endnote as my reference manager. It will output just about any reference format you want, as long as you input the full first name when you input the record. Other ref. managers do the same thing, I am pretty sure. So you can, and I do, go back-forth between constricted APA format and full frontal ASA format. Barry Wellman, aka B. Citation praxis

Hello all, I need advice on the style of citations. I generally use only initials for first names in the name of gender equality. The idea being that the reader will judge the citation not by the gender of the author but by the quality of the work. I have recently been asked to change this format to include full given names. In addition to being a pain to look up all the names it seems to violate the gender equality idea. Is there a clear praxis here? Rich Ling ________________________________________

I recommend you to use the free download version of UCInet (http://www.analytictech.com/downloaduc6.htm) UCInet is easy to use and the functions are kind of intuitive if you have some network analysis background. Personality & YouTube Survey

simple network analysis tool

Hi everyone, I have a small request for info. I've been looking at network analysis tools currently available online/for download and have found all of them rather cumbersome and far more sophisticated than myself. Rather than endeavouring to upgrade my brain to use them, I'm wondering if anybody knows a simple program that can turn simple data on a spreadsheet into a little diagram. I have a sample of only thirty to thirty-five bloggers, and want to show connections between the sites through links and comments. I have all the data on spreadsheet, and just want to show it pictorially.
