The Department of Community Studies at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Community Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 2013, subject to budget approval. Community Studies courses encourage interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential learning where process and content are equally valued. A small group format is central to our pedagogy, bringing theoretical foundations and practical applications together to build skills in problem solving and working for positive social change. Our goal is to help students develop proficiency as motivated, creative community members with an understanding of the applicability of their experiences in the larger world. This pedagogy is foundational to the teaching and learning in Community Studies courses that form the core of the Bachelor of Arts Community Studies program. The successful candidate should have a PhD although ABD candidates will be considered. The PhD may be in any discipline; however, the School's Academic Plan identifies areas for future growth that include: Heritage Studies, Social Justice, and Sport & Human Kinetics. Expertise in any of these areas would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have a record demonstrating university teaching experience using a process education model where the professor functions as an advisor and co-learner rather than a lecturer. The teaching load may include both on campus and online courses. The successful candidate will have an established research program. Research should focus on issues related to community development, community based research, or other related topics. In addition, there must be a strong commitment to service as demonstrated through a record of community involvement within the university, the discipline and the broader community. Last year I assigned sections of Lessig's Free Culture, this year I want to assign something else because I'll also be assigning Lessig's other work. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? We are seeking an outstanding scholar with research and teaching interests in public relations. Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate a commitment to sustaining a vigorous program of original research and publication with potential for external funding; show promise of excellence in graduate-level teaching (both M.A. and Ph.D.); demonstrate a capacity to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate academic courses and professionally-oriented courses such as strategic communication campaigns, case studies, management, digital media design, and professional writing and messaging for strategic communication. Meaningful professional experience in public relations is required. The salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, consistent with collegiate and university policies.
