Scraping from Instagram

Hello all, I'm currently involved in a project looking at consumer responses to social marketing campaigns in social media. I've been asked to try and scrape some data from Instagram relating to a campaign account and hashtag (likes, text of comments, etc), however I'm not having much luck in doing that. It seems like a recent Instagram site redesign may have broken a number of the tools that would've been effective previously. Was just wondering if anyone here might be able to point me towards something which is still working? If possible, preferably something that can be used effectively without the user having a lot of knowledge or skill at programming. Dear all, Mobiile Media and Communication is issuing a call for papers for: *mHealth Use and Interventions: * *How Far Have We Come, and Where Are We Heading? * Guest editors are Constanze Rossmann, Holley Wilkin, and Komathi Ale, Along with the increasing penetration of mobile media and smart devices, the use of mobile media for health information and services (mHealth) has gained considerable relevance, both in developed and developing countries. A decade of developments, interventions, and evaluations has not only guided the design and application of mHealth, but also points towards future directions in mobile media research. mHealth can be applied to several areas, such as health promotion and disease prevention, disease monitoring and self-monitoring, diagnostic and treatment support, communication and training between healthcare workers, and disease and epidemic outbreak tracking. mHealth apps and interventions embrace a wide range of technological features, ranging from mobile telecommunication and text messaging and the use of features such as cameras, GPS, and accelerometers to multimedia applications, games, and connections to other devices such as glucometers, pedometers, and smartwatches. The potentials and limitations of mHealth are evolving as studies increasingly disseminate evidence of use and impact globally. For instance, mhealth offers the opportunity to reach certain target groups easily, to contact them repeatedly, to address people individually and at relatively low costs, and to offer interactive and tailored health communication. On the other hand, in spite of the growing ubiquity of mobile media technologies, certain groups remain disadvantaged in access to basic healthcare (e.g., hard-to-reach, resource-poor populations). Further problems arise around the value of mHealth apps, data security, actual adoption, and a general lack of attention to nuances in mHealth deployments. Despite the fact that there has been considerable research in this area, many questions continue to remain unsolved. Bringing these problems and gaps to light will lead us into the next decade of relevant and quality mHealth research. This calls for theoretically sound, methodologically deliberate and sustainable evidence for scalability, informed by realities of both the developed and developing regions. PhD plea: Theory Recommendations for On-to-Offline Harassment Research?

Hi AoIR-ers, With apologies for cross-posting. Will be very sorry to miss Phoenix this month (Korea was amazing last year) but the US dollar is a Canadian nightmare. What a difference a year (and oil) makes. Enjoy! *Query: *I'm researching the effects of negative online role-modelling (including sexist/racists memes, videos and social media) on incidents of *offline* harassment. I am looking at adults, particularly women, rather than youth digital-schoolyard bullying. I'm inching through Critical Discourse Analysis as a theoretical framework, but wonder whether anyone imagines a more helpful framework(s). eg. feminist theory. Is there good work/research that should be consulted? New to PhD studies, so any help would be gratefully accepted, and shared with permission only. All submitted abstracts will thereupon be evaluated and authors informed about the outcome of their submission. *Critical Security Studies in the Information Age: Cybersecurity, Resistance and Activism* Panel proposal for the British International Studies Association (BISA) 41st Annual International Conference 2016, 15th to 17th June 2016, Edinburgh, UK Cyberspace offers a new era of research for the critical study of security within the broader context of international relations. This panel intends to discuss how the current theoretical and conceptual literature in Critical Security Studies can be used to analyse the complex security and political interactions that are being shaped by the information age. The intention is to bring together contributions that attempt to conceptualise cybersecurity with empirically detailed studies that focus on threat construction, surveillance practices or acts of resistance and activism in cyberspace. Important Dates -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nov 1, 2015 : Full papers due Dec 14, 2015: Notifications of acceptance of Full Papers: Dec 14, 2015 The conference is at the intersection of computer science and the learning sciences, seeking to improve practice and theories of learning at scale. Strong submissions typically build on relevant research and frameworks beyond a single home discipline. The program committee is multidisciplinary and will expect that contributions expand on the state of the art of several relevant source literature is considered. Topics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We solicit paper submissions reporting on rigorous research on methodologies, studies, analyses, tools, or technologies for learning at scale. Learning at Scale includes MOOCs, games (including massively multiplayer online games), citizen science communities, and other types of learning environments which (a) provide learning experiences to large number of learners and/or (b) produce detailed, high volume data about the learning process. Papers that tackle specific aspects of scale are particularly encouraged, for example, papers that deal with learning or educational phenomena that can only occur, be supported, or be observed with very large numbers of students, or in which the system improves after being exposed to data from previous use by many students. Submissions must be in PDF format, written in English, contain original work and not be under review for any other venue while under review for this conference. All papers should be submitted through the EasyChair. In order to increase high quality papers and independent merit, the evaluation process will be double blind. The papers submitted for review MUST NOT contain the authors' names, affiliations, or any information that may disclose the authors' identity (this information is to be restored in the camera-ready version upon acceptance). Please replace author names and affiliations with Xs on submitted papers. In particular, in the version submitted for review please avoid explicit auto-references, such as "in [1] we show" -- consider "in [1] it is shown". Whether it is the growing practice-based degrees, academic jobs becoming more and more precarious, an urge to utilise theory in the ‘real world’, or political and economical events pushing for response - the time for action is now. Feminism, media, culture, computing, art, anthropology, sociology, and other disciplines have a lot to offer to activist projects outside or complementary to academia, such as NGOs, think tanks and other collective who seek to make a change. How can skills acquired in academia assist in working for activist organisations? How to start your own organisation?
