Members from Guifi.net are part of the ISOC Catalan chapter, and a key part of the technical training and network development team. 5. *Mike Jensen*, Association for Progressive Communications (APC), is an active supporter of community based networks and innovative radio spectrum use. He has worked to raise awareness of the potential for TV White Space technology in reaching the unconnected, and operates a mesh-wifi network for his neighbours. 6. *Peter Bloom*, Rhizomatica <https://rhizomatica.org/>, Peter Bloom founded Rhizomatica in 2009 to address a need to transfer photos and videos between human rights defenders in Nigeria without passing through the networks of large telecommunication companies. INDUSTRY CASE STUDIES CHI PLAY is looking for speakers who can provide insights into the theory and practice of “player-computer interaction” within the games industry. Speaking at CHI PLAY is a great way to share insights gained from development and operations to an expert audience. Presentations should be short (20 minutes including Q&A), issue-oriented, and provide concrete examples. They can contain both practical and theoretical information. Thought this would be of great interest to those of you studying media geography and online bias. The Google Trends group created for me a map of how often Americans have searched about each country in the world thus far in 2016. Turns out it matches quite closely the attention paid to each country by American television coverage 2009-2016. Africa, Central Asia and the Baltics are standouts, along with Southern Europe. Emerging Learning Design is looking for reviewers

The Journal of Emerging Learning Design (ELDj) and the 7th Annual Emerging Learning Design Conference (ELDc17) are looking for reviews for articles and proposals, respectively. - The ELDj is currently collecting proceedings articles from the 6th Annual Emerging Learning Design conference, which took place on June 2 & 3. Review of submissions will begin in early August. The expected publication of the proceedings issue is January, 2017. - ELDj has also announced its first *Special Issue*. A call for submissions will be going out shortly but the theme of ELDj's first Special Issue will be *Digital Humanities*. Submissions for this Special Issue will be due in late fall and the publication date will be June 2nd, 2017. - ELDc17 is looking for reviewers for session proposals for our Annual Conference, which will take place on June 1st and 2nd, 2017. Details on theme and the call for submissions will be coming out later this summer. Review will begin in late fall, 2016. The review process is simple and straight-forward and takes place entire online. The process is blind, so being a reviewer does not preclude submitting. Reviewers are asked to consider a very limited number of submissions, in order to help reduce the work load and time commitment. The only thing we ask in return is that reviewers agree to respond within approximately 2 weeks. Yet these poor decisions are leading to epidemics, which represent some of the greatest challenges we face as a society today. Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), which include cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, account for approx. 60% of total premature deaths worldwide. These diseases share the same four behavioural risk factors: tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful consumption of alcohol and can be prevented and sometimes even reversed with simple lifestyle changes. Eating more healthily, exercising more appropriately, sleeping and relaxing more, as well as simply being more aware of one's state of health are all things that would lead to improved health. Yet knowing exactly what to change and how, implementing changes and maintaining changes over long time periods are all things people find challenging. These are also problems, for which we believe recommender systems can provide assistance by offering specific, tailored suggestions for behavioural change. In recent years recommender systems for health has become a popular topic within the RecSys community and a selection of empirical contributions and demo systems have been published. Efforts to date, however have been sporadic and lack coordination. We lack shared infrastructure such as datasets, appropriate cross-disciplinary knowledge, even agreed upon goals. Reminder CFP: Full manuscript for Special Issue "Social Media and Political Participation" in Social Sciences (Edited by Terri L. Towner, Oakland University) Manuscript Deadline: Full manuscripts due by June 30, 2016. Social media’s role in politics, campaigning, and elections has been the focus of scholarly research for over a decade. Scholars have examined how political candidates, parties, and citizens use social media during campaigns as well as how social media influences citizens’ political attitudes and behaviors. Despite extensive study, the empirical literature linking social media use and attention, particularly Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, to political participation is mixed and thus, inconclusive. Some research suggests that social media facilitates and promotes political and civic participation whereas other research does not. Therefore, this special issue seeks to further clarify the link between social media and political engagement. This call is particularly interested in research that examines relatively understudied social media platforms, such as Tumblr, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest, and SnapChat. In addition, this call encourages submissions that examine many forms of political participation, as this concept can be a multidimensional activity including voting, protesting, marching, blogging, tweeting, volunteering, sharing online content, emailing, and more.
