CFP HICSS Minitrack Global, International, and Cross-Cultural Issues in IS Hawaii International Conference on Systems Science (HICSS) January 4-7, 2017, Big Island, Hawaii, USA Kauai, Hawaii, USA http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/ Papers Due: June 15, 2016 This minitrack focuses on the sociotechnical dynamics and the ways in which the Internet affects people, groups, organizations, and societies. We are in particular interested in the impact of global, international, and cross-cultural issues on ICT development, implementation and use across the globe. Globalization has historically been tied to technological innovation, and the present era of a networked information society is no different. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have provided the infrastructure for multinational businesses, created new cultural connections irrespective of geographic boundaries and distances, and allowed an increasingly mobile global population to be connected to their friends, families, and cultures no matter where they are. The issues surrounding global, international, and cross cultural issues in Information Systems (IS) attracted much scholarly attention and have been explored under myriad contexts. In line with the track recognition that the Internet has transformed the way we work, learn, and play, our minitrack focuses on the sociotechnical dynamics and the ways in which the Internet affects people, groups, organizations, and societies. We are in particular interested in the impact of global, international, and cross-cultural issues on ICT development, implementation and use across the globe. The minitrack welcomes submissions that relate to all aspects of global IS, or IS research situated in a global, international or cross-cultural context. The minitrack is open to all methodological approaches and perspectives. We are interested in empirical and theoretical work that addresses these and related socio-technical issues. Digital Citizenship and Surveillance Society For the past 18 months the research project 'Digital Citizenship and Surveillance Society: UK State-Media-Citizen Relations After the Snowden Leaks' has investigated the consequences of the Snowden revelations. We will hold a workshop in London on Monday 27th June to present findings of our research and discuss their implications. AoIR2016 experimental session- #Berlindatarace (7 October, 4-6pm)

Dear AoIR2016 attendees, We are very excited to invite you to participate in our experimental session on *Friday 7 October (4-6pm): the #Berlindatarace*. This session will take you out of the conference venue and around Berlin, exploring the city and looking to obtain the most points to win the Data Race! *What is it?* The #Berlindatarace seeks to disrupt how people share their lived experiences within academic conferences by cultivating new and interactive understandings of participant interactions, digital technologies and places. For the Data Race, this new engagement with AoIR takes the form of a data scavenger hunt that not only takes participants to iconic and hidden places around Berlin, but at the same time facilitates teamwork and fosters greater networking collaborations amongst the AoIR community. *How does it work?* The Data Race has two components: the experimental session itself (4-6pm, 7 October), and a Twitter-only aspect over the first two days of the conference (6-7 October). All conference attendees will be allocated to teams at the start of the conference by the race organisers (you are free to participate or not to, though!); these details will be revealed at the conference, and you will be in the same team for both components of the race. *Twitter event*: Follow our *@berlindatarace *account to find out about social media-specific missions and opportunities to give your team extra points between 6-7 October. *Experimental session-specific event*: only open on 7 October, 4-6pm, focused on the area around the conference venue. Using the GooseChase app, teams will attempt to complete as many #Berlindatarace missions as possible during the session (4pm-6pm on Friday 7 October). The missions feature a mix of Berlin’s history, architecture, art, and pop culture, as well as content that is AoIR specific! Each mission requires participants to either submit a short answer, check in and provide geolocation info, or take and upload a photo or video. The more difficult the mission, the higher the point value. The #Berlindatarace session itself will finish at *the lounge at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG)* (see http://aoir.org/aoir2016/conference-venue/) Each team is required to check in by 6pm at the lounge. Teams can then mingle ahead of the reception at 7pm (or have time to get ready, as they wish!). CFP for a themed issue of NTIK: Researching Internet Content http://www.ntik.dk/Call%20for%20papers%20-%20HRC.pdf The Internet has recently celebrated it’s 25th anniversary and as Gartner’s hype cycle on emerging technology shows the Internet has already give rise to new, emerging as well as established technologies, platforms, ways of interacting and creating content. In the humanities we traditionally study cultural content in it’s many different shapes and forms from letters and literature, to paintings and pottery. However, 25 years with the Internet has thoroughly affected the amount, shape, creation of and way we interact with the cultural content found on the Internet. This in turn has influenced the theories as well as the methods with which we can study cultural content. The field of Digital Humanities has built itself around the idea of using digital methods to study more traditional material such as handwritten or analogue documents. However, in recent years there has been a growing focus on the study of born-digital material, using both newly developed digital methods as well as more traditional methods. This issue will include research papers that deal with methods, possibilities, challenges and in particular ethical considerations in relation to humanities research into Internet content.
