Hi all, I'm editing (with my colleague Didem Ozkul) a special issue of *Mobile Media & Communication* entitled "Mobile Media beyond Mobile Phones." The point of the special issue is to move mobile communication research beyond a dominant focus on smartphone technology. The journal is interdisciplinary, well-respected, widely read (h5 index of 23/30), and open to a range of methodological and theoretical perspectives. Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) Research Studentships in the Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design at the University of Westminster Three years, full time £16,000 annual stipend plus fee waiver A number of full-time University of Westminster Studentships are available to candidates with either Home or Overseas fee status in any area of Media and Communication starting in September 2018. CAMRI (the Communication and Media Research Institute) is one of the leading research groups in media and communication, its work rated by the UK Government’s 2014 Research Excellence Framework, as 52% 4* (world leading), and 35% 3* (internationally excellent). We have over 20 research active staff and 50 PhD students. We have a wide and expanding range of research interests, centered on three main research groups in social media, media policy and industries and media history. We have established centres for the study of the media in China, India, the Arab world and Africa. In the broadest sense we are interested in the social, economic, political and cultural significance of the media, and welcome proposals from prospective students on these or any other topic related to media and communication. Eligible candidates will hold at least an upper second class honours degree and a Master’s degree. Lost youtube comments

Hi Everyone My latest research project involves linguistic analysis of comments/replies under a specific youtube video. Interestingly I cut and pasted the comments from a particular youtube url in July last year and saved them in a word document. However in going back to update this in 2018 I find that those original comments are no longer accessible in that the site does not automatically load more comments beyond the last three months. This leave me with an incomplete data set. I find this situation rather intriguing. If anyone who is better informed than I am might enlighten me as to whether this just reflects a change in youtube policy or might relate to settings of the youtube poster - that would be helpful. Hi Virginia, remember that companies can use expiration dates for their Facebook posts. This means that sometimes past posts will not be accessible anymore. My advice is always to collect the data as soon as possible. or at least allow a few weeks to let the comments accumulate. As Deen correctly states Rfacebook can do what you want. Dear AOIRs, I would like to bring to you attention the call for abstracts "Building knowledge based on digital data:participation spaces,methodological problems and ethical implications" Here you can find the details about the call for abstracts: https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/8486e6_54381ccbf60b4b8eb37fc6f99752dcda.pdf This track aims to gather contributions exploring knowledge building from the increasing availability of digital data, focusing on research opportunities and methodological challenges for social sciences, with particular reference to the following aspects: participation spaces and the involvement of non-expert actors, the issue of ownership and data control by those who generate them, the ethical implications of research activities using digital data produced by others, epistemological and methodological aspects of data collected by third parties for multidimensional and complex research purposes, the role of theories and forms of generative social science. *Abstracts (written in English, or in Italian in case of tracks in double language) should be submitted by** the 10th of **February* to the conference email address (7thstsitaliaconf(a)gmail.com) and to the emails of convenors' selected track. The track will be part of STS Italia VII conference “Technoscience from Below <https://www.frombelow-stsitaliaconf.org/>” hosted by University of Padova (Italy) in late spring, 14-16 June 2018 <http://airmail.calendar/2018-06-14%2012:00:00%20CEST>. The focal theme of the 7th STS Italia Conference will be alternative co-productive paths of science, technology, and innovation. We’re all familiar with the ways that Donald Trump uses digital media to communicate, from the ridiculous to the terrifying. This book digs deeper into the use of those tools in politics to show how they have facilitated the rise of authoritarianism, nationalism, and right-wing ideologies around the world. Christian Fuchs applies an updated theoretical framework that draws on thinkers such as Franz L. Neumann, Rosa Luxemburg, Theodor W. Adorno, Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, Max Horkheimer, Wilhelm Reich, Leo Löwenthal and Klaus Theweleit, to show the pernicious role of social media in the hands of nationalist politicians. We are pleased to open submissions for proposals for AoIR 2018: Transnational Materialities (Montréal, Canada 10 - 13 October 2018). Accepted paper and panel submissions will be included in our open access conference paper archive, Selected Papers of Internet Research (SPIR). SPIR helps us further publicize the work of our members and introduce our research to a wider audience. All submissions must therefore follow our SPIR formatting requirements, which includes a consistent header and style format for the papers that will enable people to easily locate author and title information, identify the papers as part of the AoIR conference. This format is only intended to bring consistency to basic elements (such as typeface and spacing), not to impose any disciplinary constraints.
