The Fifth International Workshop on Privacy Engineering (IWPE'19) will be co-located with IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy on 23rd May 2019 at Hyatt Regency, San Francisco, CA. The program for the workshop has been published at http://iwpe.info/program.html The workshop includes 3 technical sessions where the 8 accepted papers will be presented. The technical sessions are: -Privacy Risk Modeling and Assessment -Implementing Privacy -Secure Input, Output and Computation In addition, we will have the chance to listen to our renowned invited speakers, who will introduce two hot topics in the privacy engineering domain: -Lea Kissner (Humu) -Carmela Troncoso (EPFL) This year we have also organized 1 panel on privacy engineering: -Engineering Privacy with Distributed Machine Learning Details on the technical sessions, invited talks and panel will be included on the website. Dear all, *We have several interesting PhD opportunities open at Stockholm University. Please consider applying & spread the word!* First, we are looking for a PhD student to work with myself and Barry Brown for a position in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focused on ethnographic research regarding technologies used for economic and social exchange. The position is suitable for students from both social scientific and technical backgrounds. mining images in social sciences

Dear fellow members, I am planning a research project which aims to study political participation by visual means. More precisely, the project plans to collect images related to e.g. political protest, immigration, animal rights from social media and use computational methods to mine them. I am a real novice in what concerns mining images in social sciences and I would need your help to guide me to the relevant literature. I would just add that text data will be collected as well, but I am quite familiar with mining methods for text data (NLP). Greetings! On August 28, 1968, when anti-war demonstrators were beaten by police outside the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago where the Democratic National Convention was held, demonstrators chanted, "The whole world is watching." The incident was recorded by television crews, and the footage of the incident was broadcast subsequently. Due to the broadcast, the chant became famous. "The whole world is watching" takes on a new meaning in the 2010s with the use of live streaming on social media. Personal activities, social movements, and even crimes can now be and are live streamed. The most shocking incident was the live streaming of mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15, 2019. Although live streaming crime is not new, live streaming mass shooting is. Greetings! On August 28, 1968, when anti-war demonstrators were beaten by police outside the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago where the Democratic National Convention was held, demonstrators chanted, "The whole world is watching." The incident was recorded by television crews, and the footage of the incident was broadcast subsequently. Due to the broadcast, the chant became famous. "The whole world is watching" takes on a new meaning in the 2010s with the use of live streaming on social media. Personal activities, social movements, and even crimes can now be and are live streamed. The most shocking incident was the live streaming of mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15, 2019. Although live streaming crime is not new, live streaming mass shooting is.
