At this events, the book editors will introduce the work and its context and three authors (Theodore Ted Kerr, Carmen Logie and Anna-Greta Mitterberger) will address the question: “What we have learned about society’s response to COVID-19, and how might this inform our approaches to reaching the 2030 goal of having no new HIV infections?”. Our speakers include: Theodore (ted) Kerr is a Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based writer and organiser. He is co-author of We Are Having This Conversation Now: The Times of AIDS Cultural Production (2022) with Alexandra Juhasz. He is a founding member of the collective What Would an HIV Doula Do? Anna-Greta Mittelberger is a sociologist and sex educator. In her postgraduate work in the field of gender studies, she qualitatively explored how individuals with vulvas experience their vulva, particularly in a sexual context, from an intersectional constructivist feminist perspective. She lives in Vienna and is passionate about de-tabooing research on sexuality in science. Carmen H. Logie holds a Canada Research Chair in Global Health Equity and Social Justice with Marginalized Populations and is a professor in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, Canada. She is an adjunct professor at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health and a scientist at the Centre for Gender & Sexual Health Equity at UBC. Peter Aggleton has a background in the social sciences as applied to well- being, education and health. He holds senior professorial positions at The Australian National University, UNSW Sydney, and UCL. He is an adjunct professor in the Australian Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University in Melbourne. In addition to his academic work as a researcher, teacher, editor and writer, Peter has served as a senior adviser to several UN system organisations. Jaime García-Iglesias has degrees in literature and cultural studies and sociology. His work focuses on the sociology of sexual health as it intersects with technology and sexual and gender minorities. He currently holds a Chancellor’s Fellowship in the Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh in the UK. His most recent book is The Eroticising of HIV: Viral Fantasies (2022). Maurice Nagington is a lecturer, researcher and registered nurse at the University of Manchester in the UK whose interdisciplinary work leverages critical social science perspectives to address health issues such as death, palliative care, cancer and chemsex.

In a post-pandemic era characterized by geopolitical instability and disruptive advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital inequalities persist and emerging technologies risk creating new types of divides. Recognizing the intersections of technology, culture, and identity, this minitrack presents innovative research across a wide range of methods, disciplines, subjects, and countries. It welcomes research on the intersection of digital media, different inequalities, and justice, including but not limited to work that focuses on race, culture, identity, and disability, recognizing that these often intersect with one another. Reminder: CFP for Societal & User-Centered Privacy in AI (SUPA) Workshop

Privacy is critical to the responsible development of AI. However, the rapid evolution of AI, including the rapid deployment of generative AI, has resulted in new privacy risks with far-reaching societal consequences. In this half-day workshop, we aim to bring together academics, practitioners, designers, and advocates across civil society and regulation to evaluate the challenges and opportunities for user-centered privacy in AI. By nurturing a multidisciplinary environment, this workshop aims to create a network of scholars committed to addressing: - Challenges in implementing privacy measures, including issues in Usability and User Trust and interactions with AI privacy. - Empirical studies that gather attitudinal or behavioral insights related to privacy expectations for AI, privacy solutions or techniques - Effects of emerging AI technologies (e.g., generative AI) on the privacy of at-risk, vulnerable or marginalized populations (e.g., persons with disabilities, underrepresented populations, children, or gender communities) - Case studies showcasing successful user experience (UX) strategies in privacy-preserving AI applications - Open-source tools to demonstrate the integration of privacy measures into AI models - Best practices for UX design in choosing appropriate privacy parameters and associated trade-offs. - Ethical considerations for AI and user privacy - Challenges and opportunities in improving and enforcing regulation that protects privacy in AI This half-day in-person workshop solicits submissions across two categories: (1) research papers, and (2) position papers. Potential attendees are asked to submit by May 23rd 2024 via our submission site ( https://supa2024.usenix.hotcrp.com/) Papers should be at most 4 pages in length (excluding references) and should use the SOUPS template (word <https://www.usenix.org/sites/default/files/conference-files/usenix2021_soup…> or latex <https://www.usenix.org/sites/default/files/conference-files/usenix2024_soup…>). Shorter, more focused submissions (2-4 pages) are encouraged and authors are encouraged to ensure submissions relay the importance, relevance, and contributions of the work regardless of the length of the submission. Submissions will be evaluated based on their relevance and potential to generate critical discussion. Accepted submissions will be made available on the workshop website. What does it mean to be late middle-aged nowadays? How does living half of your life in a foreign country impact perspectives on later life? Is retirement an opportunity to go back to the home country? What will happen to the next generation, raised in a different country from their parents? Based on 16 months of ethnographic fieldwork, Ageing with Smartphones in Urban Chile analyses the experience of ageing for Peruvian migrants aged around 60, who have lived in Chile for over 20 years. Their life is informed by a series of experiences of being in-between. They live between two countries, two generations (their Peruvian parents and their Chilean children), two different stages in life (retained youth and menacing old age), between giving care (to their parents) and not wanting care (from their children) and between a continuing legacy (through their children, who have a promising future) and not transmitting legacy (some traditions will not pass on to the next generation). The Peruvian population has been one of the most studied in Chile with a wide variety of themes, from the insertion of migrants into the labour market to the spreading of Peruvian restaurants and also discrimination suffered by migrant children at schools, among many others. However, neither the experience of ageing of migrants in Chile nor the experience of late middle age has not been fully addressed. By focusing on the entanglement of ageing, migration and technology, this monograph is an ethnographic contribution to an unexplored subject in the vast literature on migration studies in Chile. The 8th edition of this symposium (ALGOCLOUD 2024) is co-located with ALGO 2024, a leading international event of researchers working on algorithms and their engineering. It specifically encourages novel algorithms related to cloud and edge computing, cloud architectures, and the cloud-edge continuum. Experimental work evaluating contemporary cloud-edge approaches and relevant applications is of particular interest. Additionally, ALGOCLOUD welcomes demonstration manuscripts showcasing successful system developments, as well as articles discussing experiences, use cases, and high-quality survey papers. Contributions may encompass a broad spectrum of algorithms, practices, and techniques for modelling, building, and evaluating operations and services across various systems, including virtualized infrastructures, cloud computing platforms, edge computing platforms, fog computing platforms, data centers, cloud storage options, cloud data management, non-traditional key-value stores on the cloud, HPC architectures, decentralized systems, and dynamic networks. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome: Regular papers: Authors are invited to submit high-quality manuscripts reporting original unpublished research in the topics related to the symposium. A regular paper submission should clearly motivate the importance of the problem being addressed, discuss prior work and its relationship to the paper, explicitly and precisely state the paper’s key contributions, and outline the key technical ideas and methods used to achieve the main results. A regular paper submission should not exceed 12 pages, including title page and abstract but excluding references and an optional appendix. Authors should include all necessary details in their submission so that the Technical Program Committee (TPC) can judge correctness, importance and originality of their work. Any material (e.g., proofs or experimental results) omitted (from the main part of 12 pages)due to space limitations can be put into the optional appendix, which will be read at the TPC’s discretion. Regular papers will be allotted up to 20 pages in the proceedings. Short papers: A short paper submission may present work-in-progress on a specific topic, or work appeared elsewhere but is worth publicizing it in the symposium, or a demonstration of a system or library, or an experience/use-case paper, or a vision paper. Authors should clearly motivate the importance of their contribution, discuss prior work and its relationship to the paper, and in general provide sufficient details in their submission so that the TPC can judge the quality and importance of their work. A short paper submission should be at least 2 and at most 8 pages. Short papers will be allotted up to 8 pages in the proceedings. Survey papers: A survey paper submission concerns the write-up of a high-quality survey paper on an emerging hot topic. Authors are asked to submit a proposal between 5 and 10 pages, that clearly motivates the importance of the topic, and contains the structure of the survey paper along with the most important references that will be critically reviewed and presented. If the proposal is accepted, then authors will be given sufficient time to prepare the full version of their survey paper that needs to pass a quality control check by the TPC, in order to be finally accepted and appear in the proceedings. Survey papers will be allotted up to 40 pages in the proceedings.
