This year's theme is 'Mobilities and the Digital' and it will explore a wide range of topics at this critical intersection. We are thrilled this year's conference is able to be hybrid meaning that you can attend this conference either in-person or online via Zoom. Please join us for this exciting conference bringing together scholars across career stages, perspectives, and interests. You do not need to be a geographer or an RGS member to attend this conference - we welcome anyone to this event! The Mobilities and the Digital conference features keynotes from Professor David Bissell (University of Melbourne), researcher and author of Transit Life: How commuting is transforming our cities. The keynote panel will feature researchers developing social science approaches and insights into emerging technologies, perspectives on innovation studies, and insights into responsible research innovation. The book panel will discuss Artificial Intelligence and the City: Urbanistic Perspectives on AI (Routledge) edited by Federico Cugurullo and colleagues. Two Opportunities to Work - One Paid, One Volunteer

I have an opportunity for paid part-time remote work on a literature review over the next week or two. If you have a top student who needs to bill some hours, please have them send me a CV directly. The student should be immersed in the study of online United States politics as well familiar with J6 insurrection-aligned ideologies and the role of alternate reality games in misinformation campaigns. Remuneration is $20 US per hour for undergraduates, $25 for MA in progress grad student, and $35/hour for ABDs. Payments are made within 24 hours of task completion. Most tasks are 1 hour or less. There is a second opportunity to join me in volunteer work for a candidate running for elected office in New Hampshire. We are looking specifically for students attending colleges and universities in NH and who have an understanding of hashtags like #NHPolitics as well as the peculiarities of the NH independent mindset. Survey of AoIR members on data ethics

Dear AoIR colleagues: We are sending this email to the AoIR community as part of a larger project where we are assessing researchers’ preparedness to address data ethics issues in their work, and to help identify opportunities for additional educational outreach & resource development. We are particularly interested in researchers who rely on digital data about people, including data collected from websites, social media platforms, mobile devices, APIs, and similar data that might be generated through digital interaction and available for computational analysis. The purpose of this study is understand how researchers from different academic communities use digital data about people, to assess their current preparedness to address any data ethics issues in their work, and to identify opportunities for additional educational outreach & resource development. The consent form and survey is available at: https://marquette.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8nOMh4nK6VSwMwC The study involves answering numerous questions via an online survey and will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You will be asked to answer questions about your educational background, research practices, ethics training, and related experiences. Your name and other identifying information, including IP address, will not be collected. Your responses will be anonymous. At the end of the survey, you will be invited to enter your contact information on a separate webpage if you are interested in participating in a follow-up interview to further discuss data ethics, with particular focus on identifying gaps and opportunities to improve ethics education within your research community. You will also have the option to indicate a charitable donation to be made by the research team in appreciation of your participation. This research study has been reviewed by the Marquette University Institutional Review Board (HR-4478). The workshop will discuss artificial intelligence (AI) optimization and its implementation in edge computing and Internet of Things (IoT) environments, with a focus on federated learning, artificial neural networks, and sparse neural networks. Federated Learning investigates a cooperative method that protects data privacy while allowing AI models to be trained over dispersed edge devices. Sparse ANNs are a viable option that can be deployed in edge computing/IoT scenarios since they address scalability issues and reduce energy usage. Sparsity approaches also allow the topology of ANNs to be smaller and more scalable, which makes them appropriate for deployment in resource-constrained situations like edge computing and IoT devices. Multidisciplinary research that combines edge computing with other emerging technologies, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity technologies, etc., is highly welcomed. CALL TO ACTION! Please help save Goldsmiths University

Hi everyone, I know a lot of you aren’t on Twitter anymore, but for those who are Goldsmiths University would really appreciate your support to fight the brutal cuts that have been proposed by management. Goldsmiths is an amazing university (where I had the joy of doing my MA Digital Media) that generates critical scholarship, and these cuts speak to broader attacks on arts and humanities happening in the UK and elsewhere. You can read the Goldsmiths Union call to action below. Thanks so much, Zoe ~~~ CALL TO ACTION! SAVE THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES! Goldsmiths UCU is calling on all staff, students, alumni, friends of the College, and members of the public who care about the future of arts and humanities education in the UK to participate in an urgent TWITTER STORM this Wednesday 5 June at 10am! As part of their so-called Transformation Programme, Goldsmiths’ senior managers want to cull an estimated 133 jobs, but this could be more. They have grossly mismanaged the College, and they want to use our livelihoods to cover their tracks. There is no financial rationale for these cuts. They have failed to consult staff. And they have refused to consider seriously any of the counterproposals that were prepared and submitted by Goldsmiths’ staff, only 29 of which management even acknowledged. They are counting on our exhaustion. They are counting on our passivity. They are counting on us feeling like these forced redundancies are a forgone conclusion. But we know it’s #NotADoneDeal! On Thursday morning (6th June) staff representatives will meet with a group of Council members, in order to challenge Council's support for management's disastrous plans. On Wednesday (5th June), we are asking everyone to send Goldsmiths’ Council a message. There is still time to right this wrong and still time to defend the future of arts and humanities education -- both at Goldsmiths and around the UK. Council has the power to stop this. We have the power to remind them. HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TWITTER STORM 1. Prepare a tweet! It can be about Goldsmiths, or it can be about attacks on arts and humanities/universities more broadly. If you’re not sure what to tweet, we’ve offered some ideas/prompts below. 2. In your tweet, use the hashtag #NotADoneDeal and tag both @GoldsmithsUoL and @Goldsmiths UCU. If you only have space for one tag, make it @GoldsmithsUoL 3. On WEDNESDAY 5TH JUNE at 10AM GMT, tweet that tweet! 4. Throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday, like and retweet all content you see using the #NotADoneDeal hashtag. Keep the storm going! Other things you can do to support our action: 1. Ahead of Wednesday, contact 5-10 (or 20, or 50) people that you know who are active on Twitter and who care about the future of Goldsmiths and the future of the arts and humanities. Invite them to take part in the Twitter Storm with you. 2. To turn up the volume of our message, reach out to your “very online” friends with larger numbers of Twitter followers and ask them to join our action! WHAT SHOULD I TWEET? We’ve chosen the hashtag #NotADoneDeal because it speaks to our defiance in the face of management’s aggression and indifference, whilst also being broad enough for people both within and beyond the Goldsmiths to make it their own. So, make it your own. But if you’re not sure what to tweet or how to use the hashtag, here are some ideas: Remember to include the hashtag #NotADoneDeal and to tag @GoldsmithsUoL (and @GoldsmithsUCU if you can)! Local MPs and journalists are also worth tagging. 1. If you’re a student or alumni of Goldsmiths, you could tweet about why Goldsmiths matters to you and why you chose to study arts and humanities. Let Council know that the destruction of the College is #NotADoneDeal because our community is strong and ready to fight. 4. Sixth International Conference on Real-Time Intelligent Systems (RTIS 2024) Tien Giang University My Tho (near Ho-chi-Minh) Vietnam October 17-19, 2024 www.socio.org.uk/rtis Springer Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (LNNS) The International Conference on Real-time Intelligent Systems (RTIS) has traveled from Beijing, China (2016), to Ho-Chi-Min, Vietnam. The sixth edition will take place at Tien Giang University. Over the last few years, real-time intelligent computing has radically transformed the human lifestyle. Research on real-time intelligent systems is multi-disciplinary, exploiting concepts from diverse areas such as big data processing, computational intelligence, location-based services, recommendation systems, and multimedia processing. In today’s highly dynamic environment, analysing data in real-time is necessary to understand how systems process data, reason the outputs, and anticipate trends in intelligent computing. To this end, this conference will serve as a platform to manifest the ongoing research in the field. Author instructions and LaTex2e (preferred) and Word macro files are available on the submission page. Submitted papers should be at most 14 pages (long papers) and 8 pages (short ones), including figures, tables and references (in the Springer template). Authors of accepted papers are required to transfer their copyrights. For a paper to appear in the proceedings, at least one of the authors MUST register for the conference by the camera-ready submission deadline with a full registration. Springer’s Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (LNNS) (https://www.springer.com/series/15179) will publish the accepted papers and be indexed in SCOPUS, EI Compendex, INSPEC, WTI Frankfurt eG, zbMATH, and SCImago. All the papers published in the series are submitted for consideration in the Web of Science.
