Dear AIR-L community, The College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Special Title) of Information Communication Technology. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position reporting directly to the School Director with appointment at the rank of assistant professor. Application review will begin November 3, 2025. We are seeking qualified faculty members to contribute to advancements in teaching, research, and service within the information communication technology field. Successful candidates will work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, engaging with colleagues, students, and community partners to influence the discipline. We especially welcome individuals with innovative approaches and demonstrated potential for leadership in teaching and professional practice in areas such as, but not limited to, hardware and software fundamentals, systems analysis, cybercrime, systems administration, and ICT policy. An earned Ph.D. (or ABD status) in information science, computer science, or a related field is preferred, but candidates with significant industry experience and a master’s degree in a related discipline will also be considered. Candidates will be expected to teach a 3-3 teaching load, with opportunities to teach across the School’s graduate and undergraduate programs. This position will have an initial distribution of effort of 65% teaching, 10-25% research, and 10-25% service. Call for Abstracts: Participatory AI Development, Governance and Resistance (PAIRS 2026) alongside the India AI Impact Summit!

Hi everyone, Earlier this year PAIRS25 brought together over 250 researchers and practitioners on the fringes of the Paris AI Action Summit to explore cutting edge research and action on putting public voice at the centre of how we develop, govern and respond to or resist artificial intelligence. In February 2026 we’ll be back with PAIRS26 alongside the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi (and online). Over recent months we’ve been working with an amazing expanded programme committee to finalise plans and the Call for Abstracts, which is open. If you have practical case studies, critical evaluations or research agendas to share that address participatory approaches to AI then please do take a look! (*Abstract deadline 31st October*). PAIRS26 will be taking place both online (17th Feb) and in-person (18th Feb), as well as hosting a pre-event (15th Jan) as part of the road to the summit. In person and online talk - Jeremy Knox: AI, Education and Agamben's Anthropological Machine

Hello, I am very happy to invite you to the upcoming session in the community lecture series run by the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths. The upcoming talk is on Wednesday 22nd October, 17:00-19:00 (BST), with Dr Jeremy Knox (University of Oxford) discussing his research about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education. This will be held in person on the Goldsmiths campus at the Professor Stuart Hall Building (LG01) from 17:00-19:00. This talk will develop an experimental application of Agamben’s (2004) concept of the anthropological machine in order to examine the ways ‘human’ teaching is distinguished from the functioning of AI in policy and commercial ‘Ed Tech’ promotion. Examples of Department for Education (DfE) policy in the UK, as well as promotional material from OpenAI, will be analysed to suggest different ways in which the ‘human’ aspects of teaching are differentiated and justified, while advocating for widespread adoption of automated AI technologies across the education sector. Drawing on Agamben’s work, such efforts will be suggested, not only to be contradictory, fabricated, and overly simplistic accounts of conducive human-machine relations, but also to conceal a profound and troubling sub-divisioning of the teaching profession, with the potential to undermine public education. The talk will conclude by situating these educational concerns within the wider unravelling of social relationships exacerbated by AI, and gesture towards the more radical theories of hybrid human-technology entanglements that might inform a social justice orientation to teaching in an era of automated and data-driven technologies. Check fees for more information. • Short papers: The length of the contribution is limited to 4 pages and no less than 3 pages, not being possible to extend the paper length. The duration of the oral presentation of short posters will be less than regular ones. • Posters: The length of the contribution is limited to 2 pages. Poster papers will be included in the proceedings but won’t include oral presentations during the conference. The authors of a poster also need to prepare a real poster to be shown during the conference. For presentation purposes at the conference, the authors must prepare the poster in portrait format. The accepted dimensions are 60 (width) x 80 (length). CALL FOR SPECIAL TRACKS IEEE CBMS 2026 invites proposals for organization of special tracks that will be held in parallel with the general conference track. The themes of the special tracks should not overlap with the general conference topics and should focus on emerging research fields. All tracks are expected to enable stimulating discussions of state-of-the-art, emerging, visionary, and perhaps controversial topics. Their papers should report on significant unpublished work and must meet the same standards as main conference papers. All accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings. We expect all accepted tracks to adhere to the conference paper submission and reviewing schedule, as outlined in the dates indicated below. Special Tracks chair(s) will be interacting with organisers of accepted workshops to ensure a high-quality workshop program. In the case of detecting several similar submissions, the CBMS 2026 organization can propose the fusion of those proposals. Special Track Requirements The organizers of a special track must comply with a set of principles and obligations, listed below: • A specific webpage with information about the special track will be created by CBMS after the acceptance notification. The organizers must provide the following information to be added to such webpage: special track description, list of topics, call for papers, submission information (must be the same as CBMS 2026 regular track), special track organizers, special track program committee members, any other relevant information. • The organizers of the special track are responsible for the peer-review process within their track. They must add their own Program Committee members/reviewers to the submission platform, ensure that receive all the reviews on time, check the quality of the reviews, and establish the acceptance/rejection decision. The final decision will be sent by CBMS 2026 PC Chairs. They also must pay special attention to potential conflicts of interest and ensure that all the general ethical rules of research are followed. • At least one of the organizers of the special track must register and attend CBMS 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus. The organizer(s) who attend CBMS will also chair the specific session that will be assigned in the agenda to their track. • The organizers of the special track are responsible for the publicity of their track to try to win as many submissions as possible. Please bear in mind that a special track with less than 4 accepted papers could be canceled. In this case, the accepted papers will be moved to the regular track. Submission Guidelines Each proposal must include: • Special track title • Rough estimate of the expected ST size as number of sessions (with 4-5 papers per session) • A brief biography of ST organizer(s) • List of Special Track Program Committee members • A draft of Special Track “Call for Papers” (important dates must be the same of the main conference) • One or two appropriate journals or follow up publications: tracks are expected to organize a special issue, if planned. The proposal must be submitted electronically using the EasyChair conference management system (see link below). CALL FOR SHOWCASE / RESEARCH PROJECTS CBMS 2026 will have a special showcase/research projects track session, where we invite (a) scientific papers, (b) demonstrations/posters and (c) research-projects descriptions. Scientific papers: We invite papers (not exceeding 6 pages in length), describing innovative computer-based medical devices or software applications, including practical experiences with such innovations. The papers should be scholarly articles presenting scientific methods, measurements, and experiments. Marketing and sales materials will not be accepted. These papers will be evaluated based on practicality, innovation, scientific rigor, value of the device or application to users, and novelty. They will be published in the proceedings of the conference along with the other papers under this track. Examples of such papers could include but are not limited to: • Computer-based medical devices that have technical/scientific novelty • Computer-based medical applications intended for or recently introduced in the field • Novel uses of traditional equipment in practice • Experience papers based on use and data from the field • Insightful measurement-based analysis of computer-based medical systems from the field • Novel analysis providing new insights from data collected from the field • New and practical data analytics useful in practice • Real deployments of AI solutions in medicine Demonstrations: A demonstration is more appropriate if the value can be better expressed with a demonstration rather than in a full-length paper. The topics for the demonstration papers are the same as the scientific for this track. Please submit a proposal of your demonstration with a limit of two pages. Research projects/initiatives: CBMS aims in this edition to receive submissions about research or innovation projects funded by, mainly, competitive calls to present their project. We foresee to receive submissions which include details about the project goals, consortium and results (expected and any tentative result obtained so far). Only projects funded by competitive calls or with strong potential interest for the community will be considered. International projects organized in a consortium of several countries will have preference. Submissions in this context should be a one/two-pages document with at least the following information: • Project/initiative title • Description • Participant entities • Project goals • Funding agency (when applies) or agencies • Results obtained so far (publications, patents, ...) The contribution must be prepared following the regular paper. The length of the contribution must be between 4 and 6 pages. The DC will offer them an opportunity to discuss any problems that they have come up against, and gain valuable advice and constructive feedback from experienced researchers in the field.The Doctoral Consortium will involve presentations by participating PhD students (selected by the Doctoral Consortium chairs) as well as a number of invited talks / tutorials on different related topics in the field. Submissions Doctoral Consortium submissions should focus specifically on a PhD thesis or subsection of a thesis. To apply for participation at CBMS 2026 Doctoral Consortium, please submit a research plan on a topic related to the areas covered in the general call for papers for the conference. Information technology has the capacity to enable smart, virtual persuasive environments that provide multimodal cues and psycho-physiological feedback for an individual’s change by strengthening emotional, social, and physical presence. Numerous technologies and applications have been developed over the past decades, showing promising results in motivating and supporting people in domains such as health and wellbeing. As a research field, persuasive technology continues to be a crucial link between different sciences, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of systems supporting behavior change and an interdisciplinary approach to their design, implementation, and evaluation. However, the full potential of these technologies shaping behaviors and tracking the progress and outcomes of interventions have not been used to their full potential. This workshop series seeks to shed new light on the various processes of behavior change support systems. Yet, although human-computer interaction is social in nature and people may even see software applications as social actors, it is still surprisingly unclear how these interactions end-up shaping our attitudes and behaviors. Additionally, the pitfalls and potential drawbacks are not yet fully understood. As people interact with these technologies, they, at the same time, keep modifying their environment as well as adjust their goals during use time. This seems to indicate that digital persuasion is not a one-time, isolated event but rather an ongoing, dynamic process. Since its inauguration, the BCSS workshop has emphasized the highly interdisciplinary approach required for developing and implementing such systems. The workshop provides a scholarly forum connecting researchers, practitioners and experts from various scientific disciplines such as information systems science, human-computer interaction, industrial design, and psychology, and application domains such as information security, sustainability, and medicine. This year’s event especially seeks, but is not limited to, submissions that discuss innovative approaches and cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and metaverse in the design, development and implementation of BCSS. The ultimate goal is to create efficient and flexible BCSSs that promote long-term positive user experience. *Paper submission* Scientific papers in two categories are sought for (the submission can be either in CEUR or Springer LNCS format): · Full papers (max 16 pages) · Short papers (5-9 pages) All the papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. The 22nd International Conference on Distributed Computing in Smart Systems and the Internet of Things (DCOSS-IoT 2026) will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland, hosted by the University of Iceland. The conference is always co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and by the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP). The conference was previously known as DCOSS. Starting in 2023, the event is broadening its scope beyond sensor networks to include smart systems in general and the Internet of Things (IoT). The updated name is “Distributed Computing in Smart Systems and the Internet of Things” (DCOSS-IoT). In the last few years, we have witnessed significant growth in the use of IoT and distributed sensor systems in several application areas, including smart transportation, smart energy systems, smart homes and buildings, smart healthcare, and environmental monitoring. For smart sensor systems to truly become useful and pervasive, we need to address several research challenges, including the tight integration of sensing and machine intelligence, reliable and efficient networking, interoperability and scalability, the need for dependable autonomy, interaction with humans, and important aspects of security, privacy and trust. DCOSS-IoT focuses on issues arising in the entire IoT and networked sensor systems stack, covering aspects of high-level abstractions, models and languages, communication technologies, novel algorithms and applications, system design approaches and architectures, and tools for simulated and real deployments. Potential authors are invited to submit original, unpublished manuscripts demonstrating recent advances in theoretical and experimental research. All submissions should be written in English and have a maximum of eight (8) printed pages, including figures and references. Starting 2023, DCOSS-IoT follows a double-blind review process. As a result, authors must make a good faith effort to anonymize their submissions. Although submission is double-blind, the existence or availability of non-anonymous preprints (on arXiv or other preprint servers) will not lead to your paper being rejected. Call for Papers Fourth international Data Justice conference: The Datafied State Date: 1-2 June, 2026 Location: Cardiff University in Cardiff, UK Host: Data Justice Lab Although contested and multifaceted, the field of data justice continues to engage critical debates on the societal implications of datafication in all its iterations, from social media to platform capitalism to the current hype around Artificial Intelligence (AI). Much of this focus has been on the potential harm of such technologies on different communities and on the societal shifts associated with their uses by a diverse range of actors. Less focus, perhaps, has been on the way the advent of data-driven technologies has intermingled with and transformed the state. From high-stake uses, such as those revealed in the Snowden leaks, to crisis management as evidenced during the Covid-19 pandemic, to the mundane and everyday delivery of public services, platforms and AI systems a now deeply embedded within roles and functions associated with the state. At the same time, the state has been instrumental in the advancement of datafication and the role that technology, and its providers, now play in society. At a time when governments and technology companies are seen to be closer than ever, examining their relationship and its consequences seems pivotal for our understanding of data justice. This two-day conference will therefore explore the role and transformations of the state in an age of datafication and what this means for social justice and resistance. It will examine the interrelations between data-driven technologies and government, the changing role of corporations, emerging popular responses, and efforts to democratise datafication. Hosted by the Data Justice Lab at Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC) in the UK, it will bring together international scholars, practitioners and community groups to discuss the nature and implications of the datafied state. Call for Abstracts Mini-conference: Visual Data in a Digital World: Exploring Innovative Methods 25 November 2025 Erasmus University Rotterdam In an era where staggering volumes of visual data are produced and shared daily across social media, streaming platforms, and digitised archives, the need for innovative methods of analysis has never been greater. The rapid digitisation of museum and archival collections presents exciting new possibilities for research, while also introducing fresh methodological, ethical, and accessibility challenges. This mini-conference, organized by the research cluster The Visual in Media, Culture, Society and History<https://www.eur.nl/en/eshcc/research/research-clusters/visual> at Erasmus University Rotterdam, seeks to bring together scholars from diverse disciplines to critically engage with the study of visual and digital data. Participants will exchange insights, showcase current work, and discuss methodological advances across fields. Key questions include: * How can visual data be analysed? * What are the implications of restricted access to visual and digital materials? * How can interdisciplinary collaboration enhance our understanding of visual culture in the digital age?
