Dear scholars! I am organising a panel for ICA26, and would like to invite interested panelists. Please see details below if you would be interested. *Panel: Addressing Inequalities in Inter-Ability Communication: Explorations of Practice, Performance, and Presentation* *Topic Description: *This panel will explore how disabled individuals, scholars, performers, and artists center their narratives through communication that incorporates or conveys their perceptions, navigation of the world, or sense of reality. The common social scripts for communication require communicators to be matched within "norms" of ability and access. This expectation creates pressure to conform with conventions of delivery that effectively marginalize any expression that does not fit the culturally sanctioned scripts, whether due to necessity (e.g., bodily or neurological limitations) or comfort (e.g., what feels natural within a particular body). This panel explores what happens when that pressure to conform is relaxed, and disabled individuals find or create space to freely to express themselves according to what they can do very well, their lived and embodied experiences, and what feels natural for their bodies or minds. *Looking for panelists who feel their work intersects with this topic including:* research, practice, presentation, art, humor, or performance --- *About me: *My Name is Emmanuel-Sathya Gray. My interdisciplinary work in communication and community psychology currently focuses on what performers and artists teach us about breaking patterns of deference to dominant narratives, and bringing our realities from the margins to the center stage. More on the Anthropic deal for academic authors

Thanks, danah for mentioning the deal with Anthropic to (minimally) compensate authors whose books were pirated. First, before you start eyeing a new yacht, keep in mind that the promised $3K per book settlement is split between authors and publishers. They are recommending a 50/50 split but that will be up to the publisher. I'm trying to find out what academic publishers plan to do and will share that information if/when I get it. Also, the fact that they ripped off your books is not enough: the "list" represents a narrow time frame. In my case, 6 books are in the database of stolen books but only one was taken during the time period covered by the settlement. The process is a little different for authors of textbooks, monographs, or books published by university presses. FYI educational/textbook and university press/academic authors represent almost half of the close to 500,000 works infringed in the class! The Textbook and Academic Authors Association collaborated with the Authors Guild to make sure our special issues were addressed. TAA's Kim Pawlak was in the hearing room and is actively involved in getting correct information to all of us. Book authors: See if you deserve money

The Anthropic settlement was annnounced. The company has to pay authors a total of 1.5 BILLION dollars. This will be distributed to impacted authors who file claims. If you’ve written a book, I strongly recommend that you look up whether or not you’re impacted. Dear colleagues, [Apologies for cross-posting] The University of Virginia’s Digital Technology for Democracy (DTD) Lab invites applications for 2-year postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowships will begin in August of 2026 and run through August 2028. At the DTD Lab, which is part of the Karsh Institute of Democracy, our understandings of democracy and technology, and their intersections, are broad and interdisciplinary. We expect candidates to be creative in their approaches and, at the same time, to clearly articulate their personal understanding of technology and democracy in their project proposal. We are particularly interested in transdisciplinary research that addresses key topics at the intersection of digital technology and democracy, and we are eager to bring in a cohort that addresses these issues at global, regional, and local levels. We seek a broad range of viewpoints, perspectives, and experiences and welcome applications from all over the world. The Lab will work with the UVA International Studies Office to sponsor visas as needed. The annual salary for each position is $65,000, with additional research funding of $5,000 per year. In addition to salary and research funding, standard UVA resources will be provided, including healthcare, computing resources, and access to library support and VIVA-negotiated collective agreements that lower or eliminate APCs with select publishers. "This project addresses an intertwined challenge facing Australian workers: platformisation and climate-driven heat. Traditional work is giving way to informal and on-demand forms managed by digital technologies. Yet these models ignore the climate, placing workers in danger and enacting a heavy toll on the planet. The project will support an HDR candidate to investigate this growing confrontation. *Call for Papers: Political economy of digital platforms: transformations in capitalism and responses from different countries * EPTIC Journal invites interested parties to submit papers for the Thematic Dossier “Political economy of digital platforms: transformations in capitalism and responses from different countries,” which will be coordinated by Helena Martins (UFC) and Rodrigo Moreno Marques (UFMG). The publication will inaugurate a series of three special dossiers related to the project "The economic governance of digital networks: for an analysis of markets, internet competition, and their impact on user rights," developed by the Observatory of Economics and Communication (Obscom) at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), with funding from Fapesp (21/06992-1). Texts must be submitted by November 15, 2025. The issue is expected to be published in March 2026. The Political Economy of Information, Communication, and Culture has linked the process of platformization and the emergence of digital platforms to the structural crisis in capitalism, which involves monopolization, concentration, and centralization of capital, stagnant growth in core countries, growing inequalities, financial instability, ecological crisis, and disputes over national sovereignty. As part of this context, technological transformations, from the microelectronic revolution to artificial intelligence, are not just autonomous phenomena, but constitute an attempt by capital to respond to this set of crises and maintain its accumulation process. As instruments of monopolistic economic agents, platforms do not act only as central intermediaries between producers, citizens treated as consumers, advertisers, and other groups. In fact, they act as vectors for the reorganization of capital, enabling data capture and control, monetization of attention, intermediation of exchanges, intensification of work, and value capture in sectors in which they operate, reproducing old relations of national dependence and creating new relations of dependence at the macroeconomic level. Specifically with regard to the cultural industry, they also reorganize the structure of social mediation, with significant power to control the production and circulation of content associated with new forms of manipulation. This general situation affects different countries in different ways, given the unequal international division of labor. We are interested in discussing how the capitalist structural crisis and the actions of platforms manifest themselves in Latin American countries, given the historical technological dependence, the appropriation of wealth, and the exploitation of labor and natural resources by large global corporations, which increases the risks to already fragile national sovereignties and regulatory regimes. This is evident in Donald Trump's threats against countries, including Brazil, that have debated or proposed new regulations on platforms, artificial intelligence, and other technologies. The reactions and national policies of countries such as China and Russia in the face of this complex reality are also emblematic. The impacts of this reconfiguration are diverse, ranging from forms of accumulation to the very organization of the political regime of democracy. Therefore, the dossier hopes to receive texts on: - The relevance and mobilization of classical concepts (value, commodity, labor, and others) for the observation of digital transformations; - Characterization of the current stage of capitalism and its relationship with information and communication technologies; - Geopolitics, wars, genocide, and the role of digital platforms; - Transformations in the world of work associated with platform mediation; - Data sovereignty, digital sovereignty, technological sovereignty, and popular sovereignty; - Regulation of platforms and digital services; - Digital monopolies and monopolization of digital markets. We are pleased to invite submissions for papers to the ACM Creativity and Cognition 2026 conference, which will be held at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UK) 13-16 July 2026. We encourage submissions that contribute with knowledge on various forms of creativity with topics ranging from designing or evaluating creativity-support environments and technologies to studying or reflecting on the experiences, practices, and cognitive processes in art, craft and design. Our conference will explore how creativity can inspire and enable sustainable approaches for societal transformation, addressing decolonization, tackle climate action, preservation of cultural heritage and support place-making and peace-making in urban and cultural contexts. We aim to weave the theme of making a better world through creativity throughout the conference program.
