(apologies for cross-postings) Hello, My lab at Arizona State University is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow interested in chatbot development (backend and frontend) and public communication of science. The postdoctoral fellow will drive forward the Arizona Water Chatbot (https://azwaterbot.org<https://azwaterbot.org/>) and related technological projects. The Arizona Water Chatbot (or AZ Waterbot) uses a custom-built generative AI tool to deliver curated information about water management, conservation, and conditions to the Arizona public. This fellow will be responsible for providing thought leadership, technical oversight, and community outreach for the project. The fellow will provide thought leadership that allows Waterbot to stay ahead of the curve on water issues, technical issues, and social issues relevant to Waterbot. The scholar will provide technical oversight by leading code development and product managing the Waterbot feature production/maintenance timeline; the scholar will also supervise a research assistant who contributes to Waterbot’s code. The scholar will conduct outreach by interacting in-person and online with local, municipal, state, and regional organizations and agencies to promote use of Waterbot in the Arizona public and integration of the Waterbot into organizations’ websites and services. Framing political actors, depicting contentious or satirical images, whether to build a positive interpretation or to mock authority, has always constituted a strategic and persuasive repertoire for political communication. Historically, the image was often seen as the last threshold for distinguishing facts from fakes. However the digital environment has reconfigured this status, drawing increased attention to malicious uses of images and their relation to spreading mis/disinformation and biased content. This call for papers for a special issue of the Journal of Visual Political Communication welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions concerned with these contested uses. This issue aims to bring together a body of studies focused on visual research challenges and agendas that emphasize images in contexts that are dangerous for democracy and that may pose risks to trust in institutions, threats to socio-environmental justice, or undermine current epistemic regimes, political opponents or minoritized groups. Manuscripts may present reflections on the dark side of visual politics or focus on case studies from different countries and regions. Topics may include, but are not limited to, discussions on: • Ethical and epistemological boundaries of visual political communication • Methodological aspects of investigating unethical uses of images • Generative artificial intelligence images or political deepfakes during elections • Hateful far-right memes, misogynistic and supremacist troll armies, and their political implications • The image serving anti-immigration nationalism and authoritarian populisms • Apocryphal visual campaigns and coordinated slanderous visual attacks • Critical aspects of the visual politics of disinformation as well as historical and scientific denialism • Fabrication of fake images of non-consensual pornography targeting political actors • Problems generated by algorithmic discrimination in the political arena • Cybersecurity issues concerning state visual surveillance, citizen privacy, and abusive biometric recognition • Controversial military use of computer vision in drones and autonomous weapons for human-unsupervised lethal attacks • Alteration of visual evidence to mislead the justice system or create false narratives Full papers must range between 7,000 and 9,000 words and can be co-authored. Illustrations related to the issue's theme are welcomed, as long as ethical limits for discrimination and graphic violence are taken into account and the restrictions of double-blind peer review are considered. Theoretical papers and methodological discussions are welcomed, but preferably in combination with visual material and empirical analysis of imagery. Comparative studies, historical analyses, and case studies using qualitative or quantitative approaches are also invited. The special issue also accepts proposals for curation of images, including photos, illustrations, diagrams, memes, or cartoons that relate to the dark and unethical uses of images, as long as copyright is fully respected. No APC fee is applied to the Journal of Visual Political Communication, except in case authors want to publish their articles on Open Access mode. I invite applications for a PhD studentship at University of the Arts London (UAL) to work on a project on “Understanding social media disinformation and war propaganda through the historical archive”. This project aims to understand contemporary practices of disinformation and war propaganda on social media through comparison with war propaganda from historical archives linked to the First and Second World Wars. This project will broadly explore the following question: How can we better understand and contextualise contemporary practices of war propaganda on social media through the investigation of WWI and WWII historical archives? The PhD student will be based at London College of Communication and work in partnership with the Imperial War Museum Institute. The studentships cover fees at the UK Home rate and a tax-free stipend at the UKRI rate for three years full time or six years part time, pro rata for part-time (2025/26 full time rate £22,780). Students with an ‘overseas’ fee status can apply but will need to cover the difference between the UK and overseas fees rate (2025/26 home rate £6620/overseas £26310), and will be required to reside in the UK until completion of the PhD. So far, we have found a few books being written, some musical transcriptions being error-checked, and some policy documents maintained online. (Apologies for cross-posting) Dear colleagues, We are excited to invite you to join our 1-day and in-person workshop "AI x Crisis: Tracing New Directions Beyond Deployment and Use", which will be held at Aarhus Conference 2025 and will take place on either August 18 or 19, 2025. This workshop focuses on the costs of AI, referring to the human and natural toll of AI systems, such as labor exploitation, environmental degradation, and perpetuated social inequality. Costs acknowledge the inherent and inevitable trade-offs in the development and use of AI systems, emphasizing the disproportionate burdens experienced in infrastructuring, improving, and maintaining AI and the need to account for and engage with various actors, especially those from the Majority World that tend to be overlooked in WEIRD (i.e. Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) conceptions of AI ethics. We invite position papers (2-4 pages, excluding references) on various forms of AI-related costs, and critical engagement with methods to approach and address these costs. Papers involving AI must either (a) concern a software system as a whole, or a subsystem, and not simply its AI or ML component, (b) consider software engineering artifacts, (c) target a novel context for a software engineering task, or (d) study human, social, socio-technical, and organizational aspects in the development of AI-intensive software systems (see also “Scoping Software Engineering for AI: The TSE Perspective”, 10.1109/TSE.2024.3470368). Other papers may fit more AI- or ML-specialized venues instead. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous peer review process and will be selected based on originality, quality, soundness, and relevance. Submissions must be original, not published, accepted, or under review elsewhere. All submissions must be in PDF format and conform to the IEEE Conference Proceedings Formatting Guidelines. • Research Track: Submissions should not exceed 12 pages (with the last 2 pages reserved for references only). • Industrial Papers Track: Submissions should not exceed 12 pages (with the last 2 pages reserved for references only) for full papers; talk proposals should not exceed 2 pages. • Short Papers and Posters Track: Submissions should not exceed 6 pages (including all text, figures, references, and appendices); posters should not exceed 2 pages. • Early Research Achievement (ERA) Track: Submissions should not exceed 6 pages (with the last 1 page reserved for references only). • Reproducibility Studies and Negative Results (RENE) Track: Submissions should not exceed 5 pages for appendices to conference submissions or previous work and should not exceed 12 pages for new reproducibility studies and new descriptions of negative results (with the last 2 pages reserved for references only). • Tool Demo Track: Submissions should not exceed 5 pages. • Journal-First Papers Track: Submissions should not exceed 1 page (for the main submission). • Registered Report Track: Submissions should not exceed 7 pages (with the last 1 page reserved for references only). Important Note: Research, Short Papers and Posters, ERA, and RENE Tracks follow a double- anonymous review process. SPECIAL JOURNAL ISSUE Authors of selected research papers accepted at SANER 2026 will be invited to submit revised, extended versions of their manuscripts for a special issue featured by Springer’s Empirical Software Engineering Journal (EMSE). The best papers from the conference will be awarded. CALL FOR WORKSHOPS In SANER 2026, we solicit proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the main conference. Workshops can be full or half-day and should highlight a specific topic of interest related to software analysis, evolution, and reengineering. We encourage workshop organizers to include activities that provide their participants with a true workshop experience. All workshops will tentatively be scheduled for the first day of the conference (March 17, 2026), the day before the main conference. Should you be interested in joining SANER, please keep the deadlines below in mind. Submission Instructions Proposal submission: By 20th August, 2025 AoE, the workshop proposal (in the form of call for papers) should be submitted to the workshops EasyChair page: https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=saner2026 . The submission could be a PDF file (no more than two pages) or a public link to a call for papers webpage. The call for papers should include: • a workshop title, • a description of the workshop topic and scope, • an indication of whether the workshop will take ½ day or a full day, • a link to the workshop website, • and the contact information. The website should be live and include (at least) the following information: the topic of the workshop, its scope, list of topics of interest, names of the organizing committee members and their affiliations, types of submissions and the important dates as follows (all dates are 23:59h AoE): • Abstract Submission: 12 December, 2025 • Paper Submission: 18 December, 2025 • Notification: 14 January, 2026 • Camera-Ready: 20 January, 2026 Evaluation Criteria The proposals will be evaluated by the workshops track chairs based on the novelty of the workshop topic, its importance to the field, as well as the composition of the organizing team. Workshop PC and Submission System No later than mid of September 2025, the workshop PC should have been finalized and the paper submission system should be live. Workshop organizers are free to select EasyChair, HotCRP or any other commonly used paper submission system. The workshop proceedings will be included in a separate section of the conference’s proceedings – the companion proceedings. CALL FOR TUTORIALS The SANER 2026 Workshops & Tutorials track invites practitioners and researchers to deliver insightful tutorials on various topics related to Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering. These tutorials aim to expand the community’s understanding of advanced software engineering topics, valuable tools and technologies, as well as research methodologies. We are soliciting abstracts with the intention of presenting a tutorial in the following categories: 1 - Technical Tutorial: Speakers present the use of a tool or technology that aids the developers in Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering. 2 - Research problem: Speakers provide a general view of the state-of-the-art for a topic related to Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering and further present details of a specific research problem that still needs to be addressed by the community. Submission Instructions The proposal should not exceed one page (with up to one additional page for references) and should outline the talk. Furthermore, it should follow the IEEE Conference Proceedings Formatting Guidelines (title: 24pt, text: 10pt; LaTeX users: \documentclass[10pt,conference] {IEEEtran}).
