Call for articles: Liinc em Revista Ethical-epistemological dilemmas in the Information Age Liinc em Revista is accepting submission of articles for the next issue – Volume 11, n.2 – to be published in November 2015. This issue will contain a dossiê on Ethical-epistemological dilemmas in the Information Age, whose editors are Marco Schneider (IBICT and PPGMC-UFF) and Gustavo Saldanha (IBICT and UNIRIO). The dossiê will welcome articles discussing ethical dilemmas underlying theories that approach diverse contemporary informational practices; scientific regulations on ethics; power and epistemic authority; ethics, information, and validation; use of science as ethics and of ethics as science. We accept unpublished articles in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French. Besides the dossiê, the journal also accepts reviews and articles within its fields of interest. The World Social Forum is coming to North America (for the first time) in August 2016 (Montreal) - what might be the AOIR's community's interests in convening there?

To pick up on Elodie¹s question, 'we need to add an international view on how the Internet is defined and used¹, an opportunity is forthcoming to get at least one of some of those views at the forthcoming World Social Forum in August 2016 in Montreal. Might the global aoir community consider proposing a convergence of interested aoir scholars and friends for the next Forum as part of the process of reimagining internet studies given all the changes that have taken place of late and that will clearly continue to evolve re the nature of what we understand to be ¹the internet¹? Some on this list may know about the recent Internet Social Forum conversation convened at the 2015 Forum in Tunis, which is another link that might be cultivated/pursued. Dear All, We have a few available spots for two panels at the International Studies Association 2016 Conference in Atlanta, GA, to be held March 16-19, 2016. The conference deadline for submissions is June 1st, so we are requesting abstracts be sent by May 29th. Panel #1 - Gaming, Simulation, and International Relations This panel invites abstracts that address the role of video games in international politics, broadly defined. Possible topics may include but are not limited to the military-entertainment complex; gaming as a site of engagement with issues such as international law, immigration, and the treatment of non-combatans during wartime; indigenous games; feminist approaches to gaming and IR; and gaming and new technologies of the body. Panel #2 - Crowd Technologies and International Relations This panel invites abstracts addressing the increasing role of crowdmapping, crowdsourcing and other crowd-technologies in international relations. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to the use of crowd technologies and disaster management response by international organizations; crowdsourcing, development and urban planning; crowd technologies and open source warfare; crowdmapping sexual violence; and crowdsourcing and the production of racial and gendered exclusions in the assembly of data. Burns, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications, University of South Florida Publisher: ABC-CLIO The use of social media has grown exponentially over the last 20 years, and with this growth has come a host of issues, questions, and benefits. From concerns about data privacy to the problem of online harassment, social media have created a whole suite of interrelated issues linked to the technology. Social media can also redefine interpersonal relationships, mobilize a revolution, connect celebrities with fans, provide average people platforms for sharing their views or promoting themselves, engage consumers in an effort to sell products, or inspire people to donate money to a cause. Social Media: A Reference Handbook will explore in detail the evolution of social media and the multitude of issues related to social media in society. Social Media: A Reference Handbook will include 8-10 original essays of approximately 1,000 words by social media scholars from a range of disciplines. These essays will be featured in the "Perspectives" chapter to provide crucial, diverse viewpoints and fresh insights to the social media conversation. Essays may address the role of social media in contexts such as politics, social change, community engagement, fundraising, popular culture, business, marketing, health communication, and journalism, among others. Additionally, essays may discuss social media issues such as privacy, harassment, personal safety, trust, and interpersonal relationships. Essays may also address such topics as social media trends, cultural shifts, use of social media in a specific culture or country, online identity development, and a networked society.
