The interdisciplinary conference "Science and the Internet", to be held August 1-3, 2012 in Düsseldorf, brings together researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines (e.g. information science, computer science, sociology, communication and media studies, linguistics, educations studies, legal studies, etc.) working on the following or related issues: How is the research process transformed through the use of digital infrastructures? How can the challenges of the public availability of (large scale) scientific data be met? How do scholars make use of social networking platforms, (micro-)blogs, wikis, or websites? How does the Internet affect scholarly publishing (e.g. Open Access, unpublished manuscripts, blogs)? How has the Internet changed the practice and relevance of citations and of receiving reputation? How do teaching styles or beliefs and use of the Internet mutually influence each other? Do Web 2.0 platforms offer opportunities to advance public understanding of science? What is the role of ethics, policies, and legal regulation in academic use of the Internet? What theoretical and practical implications do the aforementioned considerations have for science and the Internet? -------------------------------- SUBMISSION GUIDELINES -------------------------------- The conference language is English. We invite two types of submissions: Abstracts for talks (20 minutes for presentation + 10 minutes for discussion) should not exceed 500 words, excluding data and references. In case of acceptance a full paper (max. 3.000 words or 12 pages) in either English or German must be submitted by July 15, 2012. The full paper will be published in conference proceedings (print and online). Proposals for interactive workshops (90 minutes) should outline both the thematic focus and the session design. Workshops should engage participants in developing the topics. Proposals should not exceed 1.000 words. Wikileaks Panel Discussions

Good evening AoIR! Pardon the intrusion, but I am looking for articles or video of a few Wikileaks panel discussions that were held here in the US last year. The panel discussions included various industry figures, professors, journalists, and legal scholars regarding the role of government, journalism, and the Internet in reference to the Wikileaks issue. I do recall, and have found the US Senate panel discussions, but not ones from industry influencers. Ironically, I recall participating in the twittersphere during these panels, but have seem to lost or misplaced just about all reference to them. Would anyone happen to have links to articles or videos of these panels? Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in technology studies, conducting research, supervising dissertations, and performing departmental, university, and public service. We particularly encourage applicants who can also teach undergraduate classes in media production or in new media production. Salary is competitive. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. (completed or near completion by July 2012) in Communication Studies or related discipline, with a specialization in technology studies. The successful candidate will join five existing PTC faculty members in the newly formed, interdisciplinary Department of Linguistics and Technical Communication. The theme of the session is: Performing Troubling and Troubled Identities Online: Towards Freedom or Formula? The workshop is part of the "Troubled Identities" Conference at Aarhaus, Denmark, January 19-20, 2012. As one of the two co-chairs for this theme/track, I'm glad to announce this call for papers. Please note that the Canadian Communication Association conference is part of a larger event, the annual congress of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities & Social Sciences (http://congress2012.ca/) I hope some AoIRers can make it :-) Guillaume (version française plus bas) CCA 2012 Annual Meeting: Call for papers on the theme Technology and Emerging Media Starting this year, various initiatives will be set up to foster exchanges around the theme Technology and Emerging Media within the Canadian Communication Association. Notably, a meeting will be scheduled during the upcoming CCA annual conference to discuss the possible creation of an interest group. There also are plans to publish papers that will be presented at this conference, which will take place in Waterloo, Ontario from May 30 to June 1, 2012. This publication project will take the form of online proceedings edited by the two theme co-chairs. INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS: Articles must have been previously presented at the Canadian Communication Association (CCA) conference under the theme Technology and Emerging Media (see deadline and link below for submission details): Please note that this theme focuses upon the following topics: - Information and communication technologies, notably their design, diffusion, and uses; - Digital media and related social phenomena; - Issues relating to recent technological innovations in the field of communication -e.g., social media/social Web, mobile media, online games, and new diffusion platforms for traditional media. Papers should meet the criteria of a scholarly article, and must therefore include an outline of the problem/issue being addressed, a theoretical or conceptual framework, as well as a description of research method(s) employed. The editors reserve the right to reject a text that doesnt meet these criteria. Papers should be between 25,000 and 35,000 characters in length, including spaces, footnotes and bibliography. They may contain tables and pictures. The text should be organized in sections identified by titles and subtitles.
