It would be nice to meet some of you personally and receive interesting papers concerning any aspects related to E-Democracy! If you know anybody who may also be interested in participating or attending, please forward this call! Hi there, I am on the AOIR list and I have developed a web based project which is intended to illustrate my PhD thesis and I'd really like to have AOIR members take a look at it: CARRIER HOTELS (work in progress) is a webproject which illustrates internet infrastructure focusing specially on connection points as a locus of control. This media work consists of a topographical image of North America upon which is situated images of major peering points called Carrier Hotels. Each Carrier Hotel is seen as a graphic of the exterior of the actual real estate. For example, a view of the front of the building at 151 Front Street Toronto, or an image of the tower at 1 Wilshire in Los Angeles. The interactivity so far, consists of clicking to see which facilities contained US based secret NSA (National Security Agency) eavesdropping rooms and which peering point facilities are owned by the Carlyle Group (CRG West), in an overall map of approximately 35 premiere Carrier Hotels located in major urban North American centres. Further developments are under consideration, such as initiating a trace route to view the path one's IP activities such as email, data searches or video viewing, takes through these peering facilities. As I digest, I apologize if someone has answered already Someone pointed out the UK post yesterday in eMarketer that said that UK kids prefer to hang out with their parents rather than online, etc. A very senior and experienced survey analyst forwarded it to me, totally straightforwardly. I replied with skepticism. A few hours later, he replied that he had been April Fooled. The thing was an April Fools Day hoax. Literature in Second Life

Hello all As a postgraduate student who is very interested in SL applications in education, I am pleased to be part of this group as I am learning from you new and innovative ideas every day. However, this is my first post and I hope I can get your help in two issues: 1- I am going to write a research literature to answer the following question: Can "first life" educators add to their practice by migrating some of it to Second Life? I would like to seek out relevant research on design and practice in this theme and provide a review of educational potential that would be useful to an interested practitioner. So, what are your recommendations? And could you please guide me to some places and references in this field? 2- I am planning to do my MA thesis in one of the following topics: A- Collaborative learning in SL based on meetings between some students in world. B- The potential of second life in learning English as a second language based on my observations to some sites and islands and practice as I speak English as a second language. Which topic do you recommend me more? And could you please guide me to some references for both topics. Bear in mind that my bachelor degree is in English and I am now doing my MA in ICT in Education not in English. Please do not hesitate to write me your feedback and suggestions. I need your help. Section 11 of the Communications Act 2003 requires Ofcom to promote media literacy. We define media literacy as 'the ability to access, understand and create communications in a variety of contexts'. In practice, this means that we are seeking to bring about and encourage better public understanding and awareness of the digital media in use today. One element of Ofcom's Media Literacy Strategy is to provide a robust evidence base to help define future priorities for Ofcom. Research helps us identify the issues, direct our activity and inform progress towards achieving our goals.
