Original research outcomes such as new production techniques, programming paradigms or new prototypes in emerging media are anticipated. It is expected that in the course of this research the Chair will develop industry partnerships and strong North American and international linkages with other research initiatives. The Chair, appointed for a five-year renewable term, carries with it a permanent full-time position in the School of Radio and Television Arts and is viewed as an integral component of current and future graduate programs housed within the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School for Advanced Communications. The Chair will acquire external funding to conduct innovative research, spearhead interdisciplinary research initiatives and supervise Masters and Ph.D. students in addition to teaching a one-term undergraduate and one-term graduate course annually. Candidates will possess academic qualifications and research accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. A Ph.D. in a suitable discipline (e.g. engineering, computer science, communications systems/technology) is required. The successful candidate will have a strong international research profile and a demonstrated ability to promote research activity, attract research funding and mentor other researchers. Preferred qualifications include experience in postgraduate teaching and supervision, and creative experience related to broadcasting, media production, or other forms of artistic activity. The preferred commencement date for this position, which is subject to budgetary approval, is January 1, 2003. I think the list is functioning marvellously as an Internet list under close scrutiny, very close scrutiny, by an international academic (and a global religious) scholarly community not used to the world of distributed electronic media and communications. Except, of course, for all of the 'displacement threads', though they are kind of interesting... I see someone in Waterloo Ontario, possibly of baptist leanings (?), has come up with the expression 'brain fart' for freedom of expression and a new, if possibly contingent, list of rules. Lets keep those Catholics out, eh? Quick, a new list of rules before we get any of that excessive, sensual, Latin Baroque appears. Please address the issues at hand, regarding Ethics and the Law. I see no personal attacks in this list. Nor do I see any 'spam'. I would be happy if everyone could forget about asking for more technical know-how and not copy others' messages. Can we go to the system of each person clicking on the post to list link and only stating what they want to say? If we want to refer to earlier messages, we could summarize them in our own posts. Thanks to all of your for responding, it really helps digging and finding the way through this jungle of meanings, traditions and idiosyncrasies.
