-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IEEE International Conference on High Performance Switching and Routing Artificial Intelligent Next Generation (NextG) Integrated Communications and Computing Systems 5-7 June 2023 @ Albuquerque, New Mexico *IEEE HPSR 2023 Organizing Committee is planning for an in-person conference and encourages the authors to participate physically; however, we understand that the pandemic situation is not over yet. Therefore, depending on the situation during the conference time, remote participation and online presentation may be allowed under special circumstances. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Generation (NextG) Integrated Communications and Computing Systems are envisioned to be characterized by resiliency, security, robustness, adaptability, and autonomy, while being supported by modern communication devices, computing solutions, networks, and systems. New networking technologies and intelligent techniques are needed to efficiently and effectively cope with the intricacy in traffic demands, as well as the heterogeneity of the services and applications requested by the end-users. In parallel, the advent of the Digital Continuum, i.e., device-to-edge-to-fog-to-Cloud continuum, promises to offer low-latency and ubiquitous computation to heterogeneous mobile and Internet of Things devices. A rich array of network services is expected to emerge seeking to realize greater synergy across the various component subsystems of the NextG Integrated Communications and Computing Systems. The main focus of the HPSR 2023 - the 24th edition of HPSR conference - will be to assess how breakthrough changes occurring to NextG Integrated Communications and Computing Systems are affecting areas related to switching and routing, and NextG networks and systems in general. We are soliciting original and thought-provoking works on big data, data analytics, cloud and edge services, and artificial intelligent techniques applied to networking and switching and routing. Works on autonomous networks, 5G/6G, Industry 4.0, social networks, network, cybersecurity, virtualization, and other advanced topics are also welcome. Papers describing original, previously unpublished research, experimental efforts, practical experiences, as well as visionary roadmaps, in all aspects of switching and routing, and NextG networks and systems are solicited. Located at the University of Waterloo, Canada, Project Figleaf is looking for an experienced social media researcher to join us as a postdoc starting 1 October 2022. The postdoc will help collect and filter social media data regarding racist and conspiracist discourse. The position lasts for one year and comes with a salary of CAD$70,000, money for conference travel, and hardware/software purchases. What is Project Figleaf? What is a Figleaf? The Project is an interdisciplinary venture between philosophy and social media studies. It focuses on "figleaves"—a snippet of communication (textual or visual) that serves to mitigate the violation of social norms when relaying racist or conspiracist content, making the content more palatable to undecided readers. The Project aims to identify common figleaf terms in both racist and conpiracist discourse, the venues/forums where they are used, and the comparative success of figleaves to spread racist or conspiracist content. Announcing a new book series that is now open for submissions

Hi all, I’m emailing to announce that we’re launching a new book series on Parlor Press that might be of interest to some of you. The series is called “The X-Series,” <https://parlorpress.com/pages/x-series> and we picked an intentionally open-ended series name because we’re open to a wide range of ideas from authors. I think a bunch of people on this listserv could be great fits. We’re also trying to do something a bit non-traditional with our new book series. The series will publish shorter, peer-reviewed books (~35k words) that are deep dives into a specific topic: it could be an oft-ignored technology, a single word, a concept, a moment in history, or whatever else you think of. I'm open to ideas. And most importantly, we want X-Series books to be *fun*. We want books that bridge the gap between academic and public writing and tell us something new about things we take for granted. Anyways, we just launched and hope to get some inquiries from some of you. Also, for a bit of background on Parlor Press…Parlor is a growing independent academic publisher that had a book longlisted for a National Book Award last year. The Press was created in 2002 and has published more than 500 authors (~350 books total), including multiple high impact academic books. Dear AoIRists, on behalf of my co-editors, Elisabetta Locatelli and aline shakti franzke, I am very pleased to call your attention to the following CfP (and with the usual apologies for the usual cross-postings) for a special issue of the journal Comunicazioni Sociali, to be published in September, 2023. (For more information on the Journal, please see below.) Internet Research Ethics in the Platform Society: Theoretical Reflections, Research Experiences, and Open Questions Edited by Charles M. Ess, aline franzke shakti, Elisabetta Locatelli Since the late 1990s, Internet Research Ethics (IRE) has emerged as a burgeoning field, fueled by an ever-growing variety of ethical challenges and concerns (Zimmer and Buchanan, 2016). To name but a few, questions include how to minimize risks for researchers and research subjects, and issues surrounding informed consent and intersecting interests between corporations and academic approaches: both emphasize the importance of the integrity of researcher but also add challenges to Ethics Committees, who aim to confirm what research can or cannot be conducted (franzke et al., 2020). In recent years, the societal and technological landscape has changed and expanded still again: platforms such as social media and apps aggregate a significant number of users, generating new social, cultural, and media practices to study. Research into these realms is stimulating and challenging but further implies methodological and ethical issues surrounding both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Both ethnographies and big data approaches in particular have different but compelling ethical issues to consider (Zimmer, Kinder-Kurlanda, 2017; Zook et al, 2017). Actually, there is the need to study and comprehend users' behaviors and their socio-cultural implications but users need to be more aware of what may happen to the data they posted and also about the research they are involved into. Moreover, the complex nature of AI technology and platform logics has evoked thunderous academic debates surrounding buzzwords such as fake news, and the importance of taking up misinformation, hate speech and ethical reflection in social media research is more compelling than ever before. In addition to these changes, the role and importance of internet research ethics has grown for over a decade and the approach of having it incorporated by design into the research projects is increasingly more common (Ibiricu, Van Der Made, 2020). For example, when participating in public grants and fundings such as Horizon Europe, the evaluation of the ethics of research is an aspect required from the very beginning also for social sciences and humanities. This entails a specific attention to privacy and developing a new attitude and best practices also for these disciplines, with consequences for how research projects are developed and carried out, including ethics assessments from its very beginning through its dissemination. Among the new challenges there is also the need of making research data open, requiring a further level of reflection. Considering this landscape, the present issue of Comunicazioni Sociali. Journal of Media, Performing Arts and Cultural Studies focuses on the new challenges of the ethics of social media and internet research through eliciting papers addressing theoretical reflections and research projects across the world especially related to social sciences, media studies, performing arts, and cultural studies. This topic is consistent with the tradition of the journal and its attention to the research on media and its context. The aim is to make a collection of research experiences as well as theoretical reflections that can serve as useful examples and references for the academic community. The call for papers invites submission of abstracts regarding the following topics of internet and social media research ethics; abstracts on other topics related to internet research ethics are also welcome: ● Informed consent; ● Possible harms to research subjects (especially when dealing with vulnerable subjects such as children, immigrants and people at the margins, and sensitive issues, such as gender and health); ● Potential harms vis-a-vis the safety and integrity of the researcher; ● Privacy and data protection with small data (e.g., ethnographies, interviews) and big data; ● The role of the research participants in the research project (e.g., considering them as active subjects, as in research with children or in research-action projects); ● Internet Research Ethics across countries (e.g., comparative studies, the role(s) of Ethics Review Boards, etc.); ● Ethics by design and the design of the research process; ● Dissemination of the research and open data. CfP Youth migration, media and transnational education

Special issue with the Journal of Childhood and Adolescence Research **Youth migration, media and transnational education** Digital media plays a relevant role in transnational migration movements. Its uses have been analysed from different approaches, from managing family and keeping social relations from a distance (Madianou & Miller, 2012), to information seeking in the context of migrants fleeing war and conflict (Dekker et al., 2018) and political participation (Gil de Zúñiga et al., 2009). Apart from notable exceptions (Jayadeva, 2019), still little is known about the uses of media to fulfil transnational educational projects. But even beyond that, media use in migratory contexts remains a relevant topic of research. The communicative possibilities brought by "deep mediatisation" (Hepp, 2020) increase the pace and shape of information exchange. On this ground, new circumstances emerge. Social networking sites (SNS) are central, as they allow for quick and comparatively cheap exchanges. Furthermore, they provide a pool of available connections that can be activated through online interactions. In this way, they serve as a source of latent ties (Haythornthwaite, 2002) even for people who would not be otherwise involved in transnational social networks. SNS create other connection opportunities in migratory social networks, namely those established among unknown SNS users solely for information exchange purposes. Young people are particularly active on SNS and they are more likely to follow migratory projects associated with educational opportunities. This special issue contributes to investigating the use of media in such contexts from different perspectives. We are particularly interested in analyses that account for social inequalities and would provide insights into questions such as: What are the different uses of media among children and young people from different class backgrounds seeking educational opportunities abroad? What are the roles of race and gender in that intersection? What are the entanglements of digital labour and educational attainment among young migrants? How do educational institutions profit from or are affected by the information exchange and informal counselling on SNS among transnational mobile children and young people? This is a short (9 month) specific purpose contract to develop tools and workflows to integrate Transcribathon<https://scanner.topsec.com/?d=1791&r=show&u=https%3A%2F%2Fpro.europeana.eu%…> outputs with the DRI’s Repository platform, using APIs and standards compliant data structures and formats; to maintain and enhance the Repository platform in line with the goals of the DRI and the EnrichEuropeana+ project; and to implement support for the archiving of Social Media content into the Digital Repository of Ireland platform. The role holder will work as part of a small team of linux oriented software engineers in the DRI group of the Research IT unit in Trinity College IT Services. They will also work closely with other DRI team members in Trinity College Dublin, the Royal Irish Academy, and Maynooth University to identify areas where the Repository functionality can be expanded to better support the aims of the project and the DRI as a whole.
