The Singapore Internet Research Centre seeks a new Executive Director Nanyang Technological University seeks nominations and applications for the Executive Director of the Singapore Internet Research Centre. The Executive Director will join an award-winning faculty in the School of Communication and Information to oversee research and all operational functions of the Centre. Candidates must be able to provide intellectual leadership to a wide variety of research initiatives, including multi-disciplinary and multi-methodological studies, and to work with a diverse array of faculty and researchers to bring strategic focus to the Centre. Candidates must have administrative and teaching experience and an established body of research. Research experience in Asia is preferred. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: * teaching one course per semester, * mentoring junior faculty, * preparing budgets and grant proposals, * supervising research associates and student assistants, * initiating and maintaining overseas collaborative relationships, * coordinating short- and long-term visits by scholars, * overseeing SiRC publications and publicity efforts, and * organizing conferences, training workshops, and seminars. The Singapore Internet Research Centre (SiRC) is a research initiative at the School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. It has recently obtained endowment funding for its operations. The Centre initiates and conducts research related to the Internet and other new media technologies across Asia. Faculty associates of the Centre engage in wide variety of collaborative research efforts with other researchers around the globe. The goal of the Singapore Internet Research Centre is to bring Asian experiences and perspectives to the global discussion about the development, impact, and potential of the Internet, and to conduct and promote broad-based high-quality multidisciplinary research in Internet development, e-services, new media use and social impact, and policy for the benefit and advancement of individuals, organizations, nation and society. The Centre focuses research attention on the experiences of Asian nations with the Internet. Aufgabe der Professur ist die Ausbildung von Studierenden im Master-Studiengang „Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft“, im Bachelor-Studiengang „Angewandte Medienwissenschaft“ sowie anteilig in den anderen Medienstudiengängen an der TU Ilmenau. Gesucht wird eine innovative und kommunikative Persönlichkeit, die ausgewiesen ist, das Forschungsfeld der digitalen Spiele an der Technischen Universität Ilmenau aktiv zu entwickeln und in der Lehre zu vermitteln. Lehrveranstaltungen sollen in deutscher und englischer Sprache durchgeführt werden. Assistant Professor in Digital Media Production Job Description: The Department of Communication at Florida State University is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor who can serve our digital media production program, beginning August 2006. Applicants should be able to work in a variety of production settings including studio, field and/or on-line, working with students to create entertainment and/or public affairs programming and media products that can be distributed across a variety of media platforms. Experience with digital video cameras, lighting and audio equipment as well as post-production software including AVID and/or Final Cut Pro is necessary. Familiarity with Aftereffects, Pro Tools, Lightwave, and DVD authoring programs as well as podcasting and streaming video is a plus. Applicants that have research-based interests in Digital media and/or issues of technology-mediated communication in addition to the production skills listed above are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates will be expected to teach two courses a semester, serve our theory and research based graduate program and have a defined program of research and/or creative production. The Department of Communication currently serves a select group of undergraduate Media Production majors as well as graduate students in a Communication and Media Studies Masters and a Doctoral program in Communication. I'm also interested in this topic. I had some email contacts a year or so ago with a couple of the opponents. I'm traveling right now but will take some time to look back through the email archives after getting home to see what articles were passed along to me. I have taught 200+ undergraduate students at the university over the course of the last 2 years. I keep virtual office hours. Students have access to me 24/7 via email, text messaging, and telephone (mobile and home phones). Email has been the most popular communication technology up until recently. I established a Facebook account last November and current and former students are starting to find me. They are using the email exchange feature of this technology to keep in touch as well as other features, such as poking and writing on the wall. I create a student-centered learning environment. It would be interesting to know if faculty who create student-centered learning environments are more open to using email, and other communication technologies, to interact with students than those who create teacher-centered learning environments. -- Gail Gail Taylor, M.Ed. Hi folks, I just got an inquiry from a reporter with the Arizona Republic who is doing a story on political blogging, especially with local politicians starting blogs, and what impact this has or may have on upcoming elections (for example, who is reading these blogs? Are new constituencies entering into the political debate because of these blogs?). I haven't been tracking political blogs and so am not familiar with the current research on this.
