Screen Scraping of URLS and WHOIS subject/category mining

Dear AOIR's, I'm studying the information seeking behavior of adolescents, young adults and adults. One of subjects I'm investigating, is the difference between the URLS/Links users choose to use (navigate/browse to, click on, etc.) and the URLS/Links users tend to avoid (looking at them, deciding not to navigate/browse/click, using eye-tracking). As a result, I have a list of all the URLS the user visited during the experiment and a set of screenshots in which the avoided links are marked (I don't have the URLS because the user did not click on them, so the software did not save it). I have a question regarding these two lists: 1) Regarding the list of URLS - What can be the best way to mine a large lists of URLS for their category? Let's say - http://www.cnn.com with news/broadcasting/content. I tried WHOIS domains hoping to find this information, and then create a code that will mine this line for each link, but could not find something significant. 2) Regarding the screenshots - Is there a way, maybe using screen scraping, to automatically translate textual links (clickable headlines, for example) to their URLS? Maybe using a simple protocol of: a) Scrape the text in a marked area, b) search this text on google, c) Use the first URL? I hope I've made my intentions clear and looking forward for wisdom on the virtual crowd. Instagram Citation Question

Hey all! I am working as an assistant for some researchers and have run into a sticky problem. The original data pull was for Instagram pictures and they have some they want to use. Most are fine, but one picture has been pulled from Instagram between the time they collected data, and now. None of the surrounding data (pull date, date of posting, etc) exists anymore. We have looked for other, similar pictures to use but it seems the account has 'purged' any similar content. Anybody have an elegant solution for publication? Thanks for your thoughts. Submissions are welcome that explore any topic relevant to the thirty-year section history or the future of the section in years to come. Topics include but are not limited to communication, information technologies, and media sociology. Guest editors are Wenhong Chen and Barry Wellman. *Call for Theorizing the Digital: Social Theory and Digital Culture* We welcome submissions using a wide variety of data and analytic techniques, assuming they are rigorously employed. We also welcome theoretical submissions, assuming they focus squarely on the topic of the volume. Methodological papers will be considered as long as they are grounded in theoretical concerns. The scope of the volume is wide and includes application of classical and contemporary theorists in media contexts. Any topic that engages the volume’s theme is welcome. Potential topics could include: ethics, practices, and politics of “big data”; self, identity, and community; privacy, publicity and surveillance; personal and algorithmic patterns of curation; social network formation, maintenance, and change; news and (dis)information; visual representations; memes and virality; politics; mediated embodiment, etc. Lead editor is Jeremy Schulz with guest editors Gabe Ignatow and Jenny Davis. *Call for Power, Media, and Everyday Life: Expanding the Intersectional* We welcome submissions using a wide variety of data and analytic techniques, assuming they are rigorously employed, and theoretical or methodological submissions, assuming they focus squarely on the topic of the volume. The scope of this volume is wide, as it aims to contribute phenomenological and epistemic knowledge to the growing field of intersectionality.
