Dear colleagues, We would like to invite paper submissions to the IUAES 2019 panel on *"Mediating Travel: Digital Media, Tourism, and the Cosmopolitan Self in a Hyperconnected World"*, co-convenedby Regev Nathansohn (Department of Communication, Sapir Academic College) and Christian Ritter (MEDIT, Tallinn University). *Panel title:* Mediating Travel: Digital Media, Tourism, and the Cosmopolitan Self in a Hyperconnected World [Commission on the Anthropology of Tourism] *Short abstract:* Digital media technologies have transformed the relationships between hosts and guests in tourist places. Inviting theoretical and empirical contributions from the global south and north, this panel seeks to gain new understandings of the mutual shaping of cosmopolitan selves and digital media. *Long abstract:* Digital media technologies have profoundly reshaped travel practices and tourist places. The Internet and digital platforms created a new realm of experience within the global tourism industry, transforming the complex relationships between hosts and guests. On the one hand, tourist blogs disseminate travel narratives and visual representations of tourism sites while reconfiguring the manifold tourism imaginaries. On the other hand, tourism organizations adapt to the ubiquitous use of mobile devices in everyday life by circulating more audio-visual content about tourist destinations. In addition to tourism agencies, mobile applications mediate among tourism actors at the global-local nexus. The authenticity of tourism actors, services and objects is increasingly staged on the screens of mobile devices, changing tourism culture in unprecedented ways. From Airbnb to augmented reality apps new possibilities for solidarity between hosts and guests and for the discovery of tourism sites are enabled, and sometimes prevented. Bringing together tourism scholars who ethnographically explore the digitalization of tourism, and digital ethnographers who study the field of tourism, this panel seeks to gain new understandings of the mutual shaping of cosmopolitan selves and digital media. We invite theoretical contributions and empirical case studies on the different roles of digital media in contemporary tourism in the global south and north. In what ways does digitalization reshape cosmopolitan selves and solidarities between locals and tourists? How is the authenticity of subjectivities digitally mediated and interpreted in a context of widening dissemination of fake information? Digital Humanities Postdoc opening at University of Illinois at Chicago

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be hired in conjunction with the Digital Humanities Initiative, a new collaboration between the Institute for the Humanities and the UIC Library. This is a one-year position, with an appointment from 16 August 2019 to 15 August 2020, designed to expose faculty and students to research in digital humanities, and new research methods in that field. The Research Associate will conduct their current research in a vibrant setting of fellows at the Institute for the Humanities; during the year, they will present their research in a public lecture and seminar. In addition, the Research Associate will assist in planning a conference of other digital humanists; consult with faculty and students engaged in, or interested in, digital projects; and provide guidance on building the Digital Humanities Initiative into a sustainable forum for intellectual collaboration. The candidate for the position should currently hold a PhD awarded in 2015 or after (in any field of the arts or humanities), have a strong record of scholarly work in conferences and publication, and have a willingness to participate and take a leadership role in a diverse and energetic scholarly community of students and faculty. Description This year we are proud to celebrate the 23rd consecutive year of the Social Theory in Information Systems Research minitrack. Since 1996, scholars and researchers have presented cutting edge research, using social theory in their work. Please join us in Cancun for this milestone! STIR’19 solicits papers that use social theory in IS research drawing upon such approaches as sociotechnical theory, critical theory, social informatics, and organizational theory. We are interested in highlighting research that critically examines the constitution of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and their roles in communities, organizations, and society. We are particularly interested in research that addresses the main theme of the conference “New Frontiers in Digital Convergence.” We seek work that is innovative in terms of multi- and trans-disciplinary uses of social theory and methodologies to study the digital convergence, and work that focuses on the sociotechnical impacts of new and emerging technologies on people in their organizational and social lives across social and technical boundaries. We are interested in questions about how we interact with ICTs in our work and social lives in ways that help and hinder the move towards more useful, productive, and happier lives. As digital convergence has become more pervasive, research has focused on its technical affordances, such as the ways in which communication and information exchange are mediated by multi-modal and increasingly seamless combinations of voice, text, images, video, streaming media and other digital channels. Of equal interest are the sociotechical implications of the ways in which digital convergence is changing organizational and social life. Issues might include critical examinations of the shifting boundaries between the online and offline worlds, producers and consumers, and people and ICTs. They might also include the social impacts of digital convergence within and between organizations. The STIR minitrack has been exploring new frontiers in information systems research for years and we look forward helping you present your work at the conference. Call for Papers: 25th AMCIS August 15 - 17, 2019, Cancun, Mexico https://amcis2019.aisconferences.org Mini-Track: Shadow Information Technologies and Practices Track: Organizational Transformation and Information Systems (SIGORSA) Dear Colleagues, We welcome papers for “Shadow Information Technologies and Practices" minitrack for AMCIS 2019. Shadow Information Technologies and Practices is a new mini-track in the Organizational Transformation and Information Systems (SIGORSA) track. This mini-track solicits papers that address the socio-technical implications, outcomes, and disruptive nature of shadow information technology (shadow IT) and shadow practices of organizational actors within complex organizations. Shadow IT refers to artifacts that are used or developed within organizations outside of and without the approval and knowledge of an organization’s IT department. Socio-technical shadow practices, also known as feral practices, are those in which organizational actors engage with either shadow IT or existing systems in ways that differ from the expected practices, and which take place unbeknownst to organizational and IT managers. The emergence of shadow IT and practices can have broad socio-technical implications for organizations, including those related to organizational power relations, IT governance, and security. Given the theme of the conference, New Frontiers in Digital Convergence, we are particularly interested in papers that examine the emergence of shadow IT and practices in response to the introduction of new technologies within business and organizations that trend towards digital convergence. In addition to research aligned with the conference theme we are also interested in high quality empirical and conceptual work that uses social theory to study and understand shadow IT and practices. International Conference on Trust & Digital Memories *Should We Trust Our Digital Memories ? We will especially focus on the concept of trust, and the many ways it is related to memory in online practices and interactions. With social media, digital archives and self-tracking apps being new means we use to create and share memories, it is important to ask how and why we tend to trust online platforms and digital devices as repositories of our past. Furthermore, do we tend to trust digital memory more than biological memory, considering it to be more objective and stable? As Victor Mayer-Schönberger assesses: “As digital remembering relentlessly exposes discrepancies between factual bits and our very own human recall, what we may lose in the process is the trust in the past as we remember it.” What are the consequences of this potential shift for the way we make sense of ourselves through our past? How individuals and collectives deal with the increasing volume of their digital memories, as well as with new ways of remembering and forgetting through the use of technology, is a challenging question, the answer to which requires an interdisciplinary approach. AoIR 2019: Travel Advice and Satellite Events in Australia

Dear AoIRists, As the submissions deadline for AoIR 2019 in Brisbane, Australia, is getting closer, I know many of you are beginning to think about your travel arrangements. To help you with this, we’ve now published some further travel advice on the AoIR Website: http://aoir.org/aoir2019/traveling-to-brisbane/. This page provides information on the most straightforward flights into Brisbane, and aselection of hotels within walking distance of the conference venue at QUT Gardens Point campus. Note that AoIR has arranged a hotel room discount with the Brisbane Hilton hotel for this year – we will provide more details on this soon. As you plan your travels, please also review the visa information at http://aoir.org/aoir2019/visainfoaoir2019/. For most of you, a simple eVisitor visa or Electronic Travel Authority will be sufficient, and you should be able to apply for this electronically. But please plan ahead to avoid any last-minute delays! AoIR 2019 Satellite Events In addition to the AoIR 2019 conference in Brisbane (pre-conference workshops: 2 Oct.; main conference: 3-5 Oct.), a number of our friends around the country are also organising additional satellite events at their own institutions. These are timed to enable you to participate before heading to Brisbane for the AoIR conference itself. We’ve now published information on the first three of these on the AoIR site, at http://aoir.org/aoir2019/satelliteevents/ – and we’ll add more as further information comes to hand. The first two events are “Data Futures” and “Re/imagining Personal Data”, to be held at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, on 30 Sep. and 1 Oct. 2019 respectively. A third event, on “Trust, Young People, and Digital Media”, is taking place at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane on 30 Sep. to 1 Oct. 2019. We will update the satellite events page with the details of other events as they are confirmed. AoIR is not involved in the organisation of these events, so we encourage you to get in touch with the organisers directly if you have any questions about participating – the contact details are listed on the page.
