Dear AoIR Members, On 11 March, we will call for nominations for people to run for several positions on the Executive Committee: Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, three Open Seats, and Student Representative. The Vice President term runs for six years - with two as VP, two as President, and two as Past President. All of the other positions are elected for two-year terms. Members of the Executive have their membership fees waived for the duration of their term, and pay a reduced conference registration fee. To help inspire members to stand as candidates in this election, AoIR has established a nominating committee, but you are perfectly welcome to nominate yourself or others for any of these positions, independent of the committee's encouragement. We welcome any and all candidates, as long as they are current members of AoIR. The "LO" in the title of this panel represents the first message successfully sent on the ARPANET on October 29 1969. As noted in Wikipedia: "The message text was the word login; the l and the o letters were transmitted, but the system then crashed. Hence, the literal first message over the ARPANET was lo. The academic research, policymaker, and practitioner community represented by PPDD stands ready to advance the agenda on broadband and the digital divide, to address the many challenges and opportunities presented by the digital world, and to further evidence-based policymaking and practice so that all citizens can participate fully in the digital, networked age. The interdisciplinary Partnership for Progress on the Digital Divide 2019 International Conference brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners for an extended, in-depth dialogue about key issues that inform information and communication technologies and the digital divide around the world.
